off hand a toss-up between two titles, though if I really thought about it some not-as-obvious answers would probably make themselves known. I Want To Go Home by Gordon Korman Despite being a Scholastic kids book, Korman's tale of summer camp and the friendship of two boys is absolutely hilarious. One of the few books I can read over and over and still literally laugh out loud to. I literally wore this books out... the cover fell off, pages taped together. I have since picked up other used copies here and there (including picking up three at once at a library book sale), but can't get myself to get rid of the worn copy. Sadly, the book is out of print (though there are currently some used at reasonable prices on amazon, and probably other places)... hopefully some publisher decides to reprint them so future generations can appreciate it. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams This is a classic. While (rightly) labeled as science fiction, its unrelenting British humor and light-hearted attitude feel as anti-sci-fi as they come. While there are five novels in the series, the original book was written as a stand-alone and reads just fine by its lonesome. It is also the funniest of the lot as the others start to feel fatigued (probably having to do with suddenly feeling obligated to be funny, since he was suddenly a hot-shot writer all of a sudden). Also, don't judge the book by the movie... while fans of the book can enjoy the feature film, most will agree that it is only a hollow shell of what the book provides.

Yeah know, I can't think of one right now for the life of me!! I read books that are always serious . . .maybe I should go take a look at my bookshelf and see what I can find and come back later.

It's great humor masquerading as SciFi. A passing familiarity with some basic existential philosophy (the concept of absurdity runs rampant in the book) as well as physics (relativity and the uncertainty principle) will help the reader gain the last few drops of humor but anyone should be able to enjoy it. Even my 10 year old thinks it's funny and can quote vast swaths of it verbatim.

I haven't read a ton of funny books, but I really enjoyed "Flabbergasted" by Ray Blackston. Almost any of the humor works by Stephen Leacock is sure to make me giggle, too.

lamb: the gospel according to biff, Christ's childhood pal by christopher moore is pretty funny...mostly i'll second the hitchhiker's guide trilogy -- all 4 four books still elicit guffaws and chortles

Gotta mention another comic genius, Terry Pratchett. His "Discworld" series is some of the sharpest satire disguised as comic fantasy you'll ever find. He skewers everything from government to religion to law enforcement and does it all with a sense of humor akin to Monty Python.

Have you heard of Spike Milligan in the US? Many books and videos as well as The Goons of course. Acquired taste. Funny in the UK.

I have never read any other author who has caused me to laugh as riotously as he has. I cannot count the number of times I have been left in fits of laughing so hard I ended up almost coughing up a lung, or nearly passing out from lack of oxygen. People have actually stopped and either gawked or asked me if I was OK. Seriously. My favorites are the ones involving the three "witches" of Lancre: Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat. Magrat is more ot less along for the ride, while Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are kind of remeniscent of Abbot and Costello. But it takes some concentrating sometimes to tell who is the "straight man" in that relationship...

1066 and All That by WC Sellar and RJ Yeatman. It's a retelling of English history.

While I do not know if it was the funniest, one of them was "In Our Humble Opinion": Car Talk's Click and Clack Rant and Rave-Tom and Ray Tom Magliozzi. Then there was one that I read over 20 years ago from InterVarsity Press that was about dating, but I do not remember either the author's name or title though.

I laughed out loud several times while reading The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death. Also, if you're a newsie, And So It Goes is hysterical and a must-read. And anything by Molly Ivins will generally make you laugh.

I dont really read funny books, but the funniest 1 would probably be Shakespear's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" although it's really confusing.
