Just what the question stated above. Is it ok to bring a knife to church?

I used to for most of my life. A pocket knife. No particular reason, it was just a useful tool that I always carried with me. Are you talking about a certain kind of knife: pen, pocket, hunting, scuba, machete?

It depends. Are you planning on carving your steak at the fellowship diner or stabbing the pastor?

ORIGINAL: JesusIsCool Just what the question stated above. Is it ok to bring a knife to church? I have a small swiss army knife I use at work on my keychain. But that is so I don't lose it or forget it home. In the aftermath, I wind up taking it to church. But I wouldn't carry a rambo knife, or a ka-bar into church. And I don't know how I would feel if a whole bunch of people were doing that.

ORIGINAL: Elena1030 Lots of possible purposes for a knife... Plastic ones for eating... or cutting play dough! Bread knives Steak knives Exacto knives for crafting Carving knives for cutting meat 'n' poultry Are you asking if we think it's OK to bring a knife to use to hold off an intruder or attacker? To defend those w/out a way to defend themselves? I think this was the intent of the OP. But it wasn't to clear. So I will ask...do you?

But I would feel fine knowing that men in my congregation are equipped and ready to take down intruders, should the occasion arise. I personally would not carry a weapon. And I'm not sure about other women doing so. Not really my call. We are a downtown church. And although I don't think the need would arise any time soon, I can imagine that if the last days approach more and more quickly... and violence arises... we're gonna need to be prepared. Not that I'm wearin' a tinfoil hat right now or anything! You see...now I can see you sitting there...tin foil hat on head. And I have to laugh...haha. I agree that it would be ok if a handful or less(depending on size of church) carried a weapon. But they should be trained in how to handle them properly. And we don't need a bunch of cowboys..rootin tootin tobacco spittin cowboys with guns and knives running around our churches. All churches should have security.

Heehee... yeah, tinfoil painted in pink and red... polka dots. We have men who patrol the church hallways and the parking lots on Sundays when the church is open. (We have transients who come in a lot... throughout the week even.) I don't think most of the church men on patrol are packin' heat or totin' knives, though. And several are likely too old to really physically take down anyone. BUT the Metro police have a precinct next door AND they send a cop on Sundays and Wednesdays. So... maybe we're covered. I dunno. I feel pretty safe there. This is important. With all the bad reports and shootings around the country, around the world, we do need to feel safe. It is sad that some can't enter a house of worship and not feel safe. I mean we are in the presence of God Himself, yet we still worry that some bad bad man will come in shootin up the place. It is a sad state of affairs we live in. Yet I think I would be be more afraid if half the congregation brought their pistols and hunting knives with them to church. Praise the Lord all this evil and craziness will be over and done with some day.

Peter had a sword in his belt, as Jesus prayed, and even did a bit of ear carving before Jesus told him to quit playing around. If it wasn't so flashy, I would carry my sword, but am relegated to carrying my hand made Rigid knife, when I leave home. I do not leave home without it, even to Church. (Never know when a Ram might get stuck in the thicket) I even carry a cigarette lighter in my Bible bag. Nuff-said. In Messiah. Arley

I think it's fine. I bring a thumb-opener to church; I never don't have one with me, really. God bless, Crushmaster.

I think Peter thought it was okay too... until Jesus Christ advised him differently. I think we need to reevaluate our thinking. Jesus could have made out pretty well if he'd brought a knife or a weapon with Him win those goons were trying to take Him away.

Dakotasunbeam, Shalom. Luk 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. In them thar days, a man didn't have to be told that he may need that when things get hairy, ya know pilgrim? They might need the sword, because they didn't have any wagons to circle. Nuff Joking. In Messiah. Arley

Unless your designation is Church security against some specific threat, or you have a pocket knife key chain, do not ever bring a weapon to church. -Remember Saul?

A few years back some crazy guy decided to open fire on a sister congregation of ours in the Dallas area. When he started firing several congregants ran out to stop him. I don't think they were all "security" people. They held him at gunpoint until the authorities arrived. I don't see a problem with it.
