Use a price search engine if you want to shop around for deals. The one I have used is dvdpricesearch.com though I am sure there must be others. Buying used will certainly save you money, though buying new and then selling them on afterward (Amazon, EBay, etc) is another way to keep the costs down. However, I don't often watch the same DVDs twice, other people might feel the need to hold on to them. There is also Netflicks of course, but only if you watch DVDs regularly.

We sometimes buy used from Blockbuster when they have their sales (it's usually 3/$25). Also, overstocked or less-in-demand used DVDs could be less, as low as $3.99. For TV series box sets, Amazon has some titles on sale for $25 or less every week, as does Target (but only in the retail stores in Target's case). If you can't find the TV season for $25 or less, I suggest waiting. There are a few more pricey exceptions (here in the US), like BBC series along the lines of Doctor Who and recent HBO or Showtime series. In the months leading up to last Christmas, there were a lot of aggressive sales on DVD series box sets, so I hope that will be the case this year too. For big movies the week they come out on DVD, usually Walmart, Target, and possibly Best Buy have got the best sale prices (from what I've seen).

Ebay, Amazon third-party, Half.com. Check Big Lots for $3 DVD's (you might be surprised at what you find). Also, check your local pawn shops that carry DVD's. One of ours has two full tables of them (laid with the spine facing up).

I think walmart is since the prices are always good.

Sometimes Walmart has fantastic deals; of course they're usually older movies. But I've seen some around $5.00. They're usually put in a bin that you dig through.

Often you can find good deals on recent used titles when Blockbuster does their sales. I think it's like 3 titles for $20? Comes out a little higher than the Walmart bargain bin, but more recent titles are available. I guess Ebay, half.com, Amazon are still the best for used TV seasons, because what little I've seen at Blockbuster is either packaged per disc (so you'd pay less for a new set somewhere else) or quite expensive (Several months ago, I saw a used copy of La Femme Nikita season one at my local Blockbuster marked at $50 - I had bought a new box set of it last year on sale through Amazon for like $14.99).

The $5 movie bin is the only part of Wal-Mart I like. 98% of it is garbage, but there's always 1 or 2 films worth grabbing. -Dan.

We've got a MovieStop around here. They've got an amazing selection and some great deals on used films.

If you are willing to run the gauntlet Best Buy typically has really good movie sales on Black Friday and that weekend. I got several movies for $5 last year that were released on DVD just a few months (or less) before Thanksgiving. And I didn't go until Sat. morning. Still had good deals, decent selection (though a number of titles were sold out) and most importantly when shopping with a 16 month old - no lines! Kris
