ok, the difference is that the 1st step has Nucleotides, 19mg and the 2nd step doesn't. The calcium and iron amounts are a bit different too.

Hey Ladies. I'm hopping in here to read what ya'll are saying. I've discovered I have a shameful issue of pride when it comes to bfing and Manda suggested I come here and read your posts to have a different perspective (that I really want!)

Love you ladies :) :)

Well Mary is officially a formula fed baby. I do have 6 2oz bottles in the freezer left from pumping at work. This happened with my first two. I just can't seem to maintain my supply while working and pumping. I had a feeling I wouldn't. When I wasn't working, her feedings were not regular, so my supply met her needs on her demand (does that make sense?). So anyway, I had forgotten how stinkin expensive formula is (well it depends on what kind you get.) I need to call WIC tomorrow so I can change out my checks to get formula.

Were you taking Fenugreek or anything? If you want some tips on increasing your supply then let me know :)

Don't feel bad about going to formula, Mary will still get all the wonderful nutrients she needs

Hey there! Glad to have ya here.

Since I've breastfed exclusively my first born. And bottle fed exclusively my second born.... I see the benefits (yes, benefits) of both.

Just as each pregnancy is different: for me the methods of feeding my young ones differed for many reasons.

Read on and ask away......... no question will be silly, I promise.

And I just want to say this: Janine, I know that you never purposely set out to be prideful. Quite the contrary. By your postings I know you as a woman that truly seeks to be like Him.

Thank you for the offer. It may sound quite lazy of me, but I have accepted the formula and not really willing to make the effort to try the breast feeding again. I wasn't taking anything and sometimes I regret that, but why cry over spilt milk? KWIM?

Nope, I entirely understand. But I am one of the few that thinks bottle feeding is easier then breastfeeding

I am thinking breastfeeding my not work for us. It is so painful and I am getting really stressed out. I am not even able to enjoy my baby right now because all I can think about is feeding him. I feel like such a failure.

You are not a failure. You are a new mom, trying to nurse a baby who doesn't know how to do it either, and with thrush on top of that! If I had had thrush with my first instead of my third...I probably would have quit too. I couldn't believe how incredibly painful it was!

Do what you need to do, Emily. You have no one to answer to but yourself and your husband. I don't even think God cares if your baby gets breastmilk or formula.

Donna is right. I think the only time we truely fail as mothers is when we stop caring, when we stop loving our babies.

Breast feeding moms screw up plenty of things in their walks as mothers (take it from one who knows), so just because one women BF'ed, and one formula fed, does not make the first mom a better mom. Not by a long shot.

I personally dislike referring to BFing as "God's way of feeding a baby", because God gave us the intelligence to develop good formula, too. And if you are loving your baby the best way you know how, then God is very pleased with you.

Well, it may have been the original perfect way to feed a baby, but we all know we live in a fallen world. A world where thrush does exist, where babies are sometimes born with cleft lips/palates, a world that our bodies don't always work like they should, a world where there is pain.

For those who can bf, they need to realize they are blessed. For those who can't or decide not to, for whatever reason, there are for sure much worse things you could do as a parent than not nurse.

Just a hug, girl.

The ladies are right. Pray and do what you feel led to do.

And just WHERE is this guilt coming from??? You need to ask yourself that.

The enemy really gets his enjoys trying to make us miserable.

If it is the enemy......... tell him to go away in Jesus' name.

If it is people in your life: be sure to let them know that as a praying momma, you will do only and exactly as you feel led.

I'm so sorry that you are hurting (physically and emotionally) right now.

EmilyAnn- bfing isn't the be all end all of motherhood. Relax. The bottom line is what is best for you and baby. Guilt is not good for either of you.

At 2 weeks everyone feels like all they do is feed the baby. That and sleep (if you're lucky).

I promise, no matter what you choose to do, it will get easier Emily. Hold on there. Just toss everything else you have to do out the window and keep reminding yourself that this is temporary.

Well, I chose to keep trying to breastfeed my ds, and it didn't get easier, it got harder! Not saying that's always the case for everyone, but it doesn't necessarily get better.

((Emily)) I remember the struggles I had at the beginning too, I remember feeling like it would never end. I remember feeling like I was weighed down and trapped, I remember feeling tired, like I couldn't do it anymore, and I remember feeling a lot of resentment.
I don't know what I could say to make you feel better. If you want to keep trying, it helps to set small goals (try to make it another week) and if you don't want to keep trying, do not feel guilty!! Your baby will grow and thrive either way.

I have a question about formula... there are two types, Plain old iron-enriched formula, and Iron Enriched formula with omega 3&6.
Do you think there's a difference? The omega is what I'm currently using, but it's a lot more expensive. Does it still have an effect at this stage (10 months) or is the important development stage where the lipids were important over by now?

When mine were that little we had soy and milk based forumlas and the milk ones came either with or without iron. There was a very expensive formula for sick babies, I had to use it once or twice. I can't remember what it was called. I remember at $14 or $15 a can, it was just over twice as expensive as powdered soy formula and I think it only came in the consentrated form.

Yolanda, HERE is a link about Omega 3. It looks like the foods that are rich in it aren't things Chase can eat yet, except winter squash.

The Omega and DHA/ARA formulas were not out when Noah was a baby. He did just fine. At 10 months, since he'll soon be able to be transitioned to whole milk...I personally wouldn't worry about it and just get what is cheaper. But that's me...

I think if I had help it wouldn't be so difficult. My DH leaves for work around 5:30 am and gets home around 8:30 pm. I have to do all of the baby care myself. My mom comes over after work a few times a week and does laundry, dishes, and makes dinner, but other than that I am on my own. It seems like most of the tips the LC gave me require a 3rd arm. Right now I am pumping and feeding him only pumped breast milk. I feel like all I do is feed him and pump. It takes about 30 minutes for him to eat 3 oz and 30 minutes to pump 3 oz. I can't pump and hold him at the same time. Yesterday and today he has been screaming any time I put him down or some one else holds him. All he wants to do is eat and be held by me. He won't take a bottle if Chris tries to feed him. I am feeling exhausted and tired of trying.

How long do you try, and where are you when he is trying to feed him?
