Experientially, I'd agree with the wise king....

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold,
but man is tested by the praise he receives. - Proverbs 27:21

What say you?

How do you define being weak in faith?

No, I don't think this was his weakest moment in faith because Jesus was not tempted in the same way we are tempted.

When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone - James 1:13

Since Jesus was God then and is God now he could not be tempted with evil.

....but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. - James 1:14-15

Jesus was sinless so this can't be describing Jesus' temptation.

As for Gethsemene, I think when Jesus was praying and sweating blood he was displaying the strongest faith that will ever be known. For in those moments, he was beginning to taste the hell (literally) that was to come on the cross the next day. He may appear weak at first glance, but when you consider the spiritual darkness that was beginning to descend on him, a darkness that is incomprehensible as the billions of sins of those he would save began to "stick" to his soul, you begin to get a glimpse of what a perfect faith he had.

Temptation is the greatest in the areas we have not surrendered to Jesus.

I usually enjoy your post but think you're wrong here.Mark 14 vs32-38 tell you that Jesus was very troubled even agonized knowing his hour had come.He even asked God if it were possible to take the cup, check that he told God to take the cup away, and said afterwards not my will but yours be done.

This was strongest time I can find on record that Jesus was tempted to follow his will over Gods, which would indeed have been sinful for he was to be according to Philippians 2 vs 8 he became obedient unto death even the death of the cross, which was Gods will for him.

Since sin involves missing the mark he clearly would have missed the mark God set before him.

Temptaion is greatest when we are tired. When we are angry. When we focus on our bodies and not our spirit.

Tmepotation is greatest when we walk by Krispie Kremes early in the morning and smell the donuts.

My pastor has told me that when Jesus was here on earth he was in the flesh and was tempted by all the temptations we are. But he did not give into them.

Temptation is the greatest when we are vulnerable, weak, sick, not feeling well, during trials and temptations as well, I find that we tend to sin simply bc we are weak and thus unable to make wise decision.

That's why it is always Wise to refrain from taking any decision when we are weakest or even not feeling well.

Just lately, I have done unwise decision simply bc I was not feeling well.

Had I waited just a lil bit; I would have avoided doing it. The point is I repented to God and asked Him to forgive me and help me to forgive myself.

for Solomon, with great power, and great wealth came great temptation.

In Isaiah 14 the temptation of Lucifer is recorded....... the 5 "I will"s

sa 14:12 "How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!
Isa 14:13 "But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.
Isa 14:14 'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.'

My point wasn't that Jesus wasn't tempted, just that he couldn't have been tempted by the "evil desires within him" (as James says of us) and that this temptation went beyond what any human has ever experienced. My sub-point was that because of all this we cannot know what really went on in that garden, what he overcame, because we've never experienced it. Jesus' weakness was strength in that garden because when he appears to swoon, his faith prevailed over a cosmic temptation far too great for any of us to understand...simply because we are not sinless and have never had the googlolplex of sins of those he took to the cross come upon us.

As christians we do not have to sin because God has given us victory over sin.

That victory was embodied in Christ. He...IS the victory.

That doesn't make us perfect. It just provides the opportunity.

Temptation for the human (Christian) is greatest when we think we are doing alright

Temptation cometh in both times of great success and great weakness. In fact, many will confess great weakness after having achieved something great. Our problem is that it should also be a time to be tempted to do great good. I always remember Christ turning down the offer of kingship that men offered Him knowing that to accept put Him in a position created by men for men on their terms and not His.

Lets us pray there is a temptation to do as Christ would do when we are tempted to do otherwise.

I hate to be a stickler here, it's just that I think this response needs clarification. We don't have to continue in repetitive sinning,we can overcome troublesome areas in our lives,we will however always have to contend with the area of sin in general though.

!st John chp 1 covers this issue.

No perfection in that sense this side of heaven.

Agreed. Maybe he was talking about sanctification? I tend to look at that like Zeno's pardox.

The jump between 16ft and 8ft is far greater than the jump between 1/16 of a foot and 1/32 but you always can feel so far away no matter if the distance between you and God is 16, 8 or even 1/1000th of a foot. In reality, distance is distance and as Lewis said somewhere "the closer you come to God, the more you realize your distance from him."

Jesus was also fully human and was tempted in every way as man without sin.

Temptation is greatest when we are weak or strong, It will be brought about greatly when we have victories in one area then we will be tempted in another. The only way to overcome the temptations is turning to the Lord.

As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise [Prov. 27:21].

"Be careful of praise. Make sure it has the right effect upon you. Dr. Ironside (Notes on the Book of Proverbs, pp. 390–391) has this comment: “There is no hotter crucible to test a man than when he is put through a fire of praise and adulation. To go on through evil report in claim of cleaving to the Lord and counting on Him to clear one’s name is comparatively easy though many faint in such circumstances; but to humbly pursue the even tenor of his way, undisturbed and unlifted up by applause and flattery marks a man as being truly with God”

McGee, J. V. Thru the Bible radio program. (electronic ed.).

Hello BrokenMessenger

I personally find my greatest times of temptation is just after the Lord blesses me or shows me some truth in His word or His love toward me. Strange? Not at all. That's when our adversary the Devil rises up and does his best to steal what the Lord has given.

I find temptation is greatest when I am feeling weak in my faith. It seems like whenever I am already weak in faith the Devil just hunts me down with temptations.

I personally can say that temptation is great when I think I am taking strides forward in my walk, and when I think I am backsliding. Either way the attacks come, maybe we notice it more when we are feeling weak in our faith, or maybe we are better equipped to handle it. But, when I slip up, that old snake is right there trying to push me even further down.
