Okay ladies, you all (or most) remember THE DOLL- I think my Eleni is ready for THE DOLL, and she is very specific about what she wants- she wants a newborn baby who is little and has no hair. My debate is this...I can get an American Girl newborn for about 40 dollars and I'm pretty sure other doll clothes would fit it and I know it would hold up since it is American Girl. My other option is one I found at Target that is half the cost, but it has the cloth body that doesn't match the "skin" parts and I'm afraid may not hold up (we can afford either so that's not really an issue, but I don't want to buy A.G. just to do it... Is there another kind of doll that I'm missing?

there are a LOT of doll options out there...but the thing to ask is.....what kind of doll would your daughter love the most?

I found that going to Toys R US...provided a lot more options on doll babies...and they are as nice (if NOT nicer) than the AG dolls.....and some of them are sized so that real baby clothes can fit them....which is nice if you have some of your daughter's little things left.....

I have dolls from when I was a little girl.....a well loved dolly will last a long time.....even it if not expensive.

Look for a doll that is cuddly....and comfortable for little arms to hold. Look for a doll that has a pleasant face, etc.

Did you know that AG is no longer privately owned by Pleasant Co.? They are owned by Matel (it's Matel, right? My brain is fuzzy today.) and the dolls are now mass produced just like all the other dolls that Matel makes, they just have an AG label. That is why you have seen AG begin a huge marketing campaign over the last few years because they were sold out to the toy company.

Our original AG doll is much better made than the one we purchased after the buy out which is one of the reasons we have decided not to purchase from AG any longer. It is just not worth spending the extra money, which we can also afford. When we were getting the quality maybe it was worth it but now less quality on top of the other issues not so much.

Anyway, I agree with WOF, you can find a good doll at Target or Toys R Us that your little girl will love.

I got two American Girl dolls when I was little and I really liked them. I still have them and they are in good condition. I used to play with baby dolls that came from Toys R US that I really liked. The ones from Toys R US looked pretty real so I would say go with them. (They don't cost as much too.)
