Has anyone here ever used some kind of aptitude test or questionnaire to determine what level of understanding your congregation or group has of the gospel and/or Christian doctrine?

If so, what did you use?

Umm. That is a very good question. It is also an awesome idea.

I must research and see what I can find on this subject. I'll let you know if I find anything credible.

Really great idea.

Yes. A church I attended years ago created a 'Christian Profile Assessmant' booklet, and had everyone in small groups take it. It had scroing based on the answers given, and was about 115 questions long. It also included 'values' from the church's mission statement.

It was actually pretty well concieved.

I should add that the church based their 'profile' on a book called Christian Life Profile. I tried to find more info for you, but only found where the book is sold. There is a synopsis, and this might head you into the right direction. LINK HERE.

That looks like a great kit. A bit more comprehensive of a program than I was thinking of. I was also hoping for something free. LOL!! I did find the workbooks on amazon. But I suspect they wouldn't be much help without the rest of the kit.

I have never seen the kit, only the drafts that the church put together. It was a lot of work putting it together as I remember.

Perhaps getting only the book will get you headed into the direction. I'm sure you could probably put something together from it.

Have you considered simply getting to know people and talking about this stuff in order to discern their 'aptitude'?

The idea of a survey just seems pretty cold to me.

As a preacher, it really shouldn't be a problem to preach at multiple levels of 'doctrine' anyways, to develop people of all 'levels' -- which is probably what such a survey would tell you anyways... that you have people at all levels.

Are we talking about some multiple choice, or series of short question & essay assessments?

I was thinking about something that is short enough that it could just be completed during a Sunday School class or a bible study period.

I'm not wanting it to determine if they are Christian or not. Just to determine where a group is at, on average, in their understanding of basic Christian doctrine.

Google docs allows creation of forms with radio, checkbox, fill-in fields. You send it out to e-mails, they click a link and do it in a web page, or if HTML allowed in their e-mail complete it there, and google collects the results in a google docs spreadsheet...

As for the questions... let me know when you got them

1.I believe that the God of the Bible is the only true God.
2.I believe God loves me so therefore my life has value.
3.I believe Jesus demonstrated servant leadership.

Just three questions out of 115. Opposite each question is the answer column in which you mark your answer between 1 - 5, one being the least.

Does not apply at all, Applies somewhat, Applies completely.

Based on the number score at the end of the questions you measure the results. That portion breaks down into 'God,' 'Kingdom of God,' 'Human Nature,' 'Identity & Purpose.'

Than that also guides people into areas where they may serve better; missions, hospitality, praying, etc.

It's kinda hard to explain through this forum, but it does work. It is not just to help leadership, but more to be a tool people can use to grow closer in their relationship with the Lord.

Matthew
