I was a medic in the Air Force for 20 years and you OSI folks would drive us crazy! The problem was that our computer system would not let us enter Special Agent as a rank. We had to enter the actual paygrade and that did not sit well with the OSI guys. Hopefully they fixed that in the five years since I retired.

I'm still not totally sure that Jenny did it. If you ask me, what's-his-name-the-arms-dealer did it. But that's the nature of NCIS. And that's why we love it.

Does anyone remember the two-part episode of JAG that served as the pilot for NCIS? On that episode it was stated that Gibbs was a Gunnary Sergeant in the Marine Reserves. In fact, Harm referred to him as "Gunny" several times. Has that ever been mentioned in the show? I know it has been mentioned that he was a former Marine but I don't recall any plot-line that has him currently being in the Marine Reserves.

I do. Saw it on a rerun of JAG a year or so ago. Gibbs' former Marine rank has come up a number of times, and he was a Gunnery Sgt. He's retired.

There are full-time guard and reserve component jobs at most guard or reserve units. Many full-time reserve or guard members are actually civil service for most of the month. They do the same job all the time. They only have to put a uniform on for a couple of days a months. An agent for the NCIS is always in street clothes so no real difference in apparel. So this could be plausible.

I was Air Force and the USAF OSI (Office of Special Investigations) performs a very similar role. They never wear a uniform because they aren't supposed to disclose their rank. Most are enlisted however.

NCIS is different than the OSI. Although there are some active duty naval and Marine personnel assigned to NCIS, the Navy prefers civilian agents in order to avoid the kind of situation that happened in the JAG episodes when Harm tried (and failed) to intimidate Gibbs using his rank. (My brother is looking into applying to NCIS, so I've heard more about it in the last couple of years than I ever imagined possible! )

Ducky has refered to him as "gunnery sergeant" on occasion.

I enjoyed Tuesday's episode. But I wonder - how did (the female germaphobe - can't think of her name) know about the Iraqi man who gave her brother CPR? If the brother was unconscious (and still in a coma), and the other soldiers shot and killed the Iraqi, how did she find out? Or maybe they told her when they discovered he didn't have a weapon?

OK, I'm way too analytical.

I got the impression her brother had known the family earlier. Not sure why I thought that. I might have to watch it online myself to see what lead me to that impression. I also thought she had had contact with the family somehow.

I thought she had contact with the boy BECAUSE of how his dad died saving her brother. (Which is another thing that confused me - just because the dad saved her brother's life, how did she then get the son as a contact?)

not sure how it's spelled, but isn't it "Nicke"....short for Nicole or something?
(there are so many different ways to spell that name that I am not even going to attempt to figure out how they spell it though)

I thought that whole part of the story line was a bit weird...for many of the reasons already listed. I wonder if it was just bad writing, something that people didn't catch or explain well enough, or if it will actually make sense later with some other episode. I don't know....but it was a bit weird.

Since when does Ziva just jump into bed with a guy? Was she that messed up in the head? Guess so. I had a feeling all along he had nothing to do with it.

I thought the guy was the other killer. But, they made it look so much like he was that I should have figured out that he wasn't.

Okay, three episodes left for this season. Who gets killed off? As long as it isn't Ziva, Abby, or Ducky I'll be okay with it though I'm really hoping it is Jenny.

Me, too!

Dontcha hate when it's someone totally unrelated?

As for Ziva, she seemed not herself at all this episode. C'mon - she's Mossad! She's said in the past that she's been trained to kill and not concern herself with it. Okay, so she could've been shaken because she almost died and started to distrust her own judgment, but she practically fell apart this episode, which is totally unlike her.

Well, Ziva got sorta shook up when the jogger she knew died in an earlier episode. She was very hurt when Abby told her she did not have feelings also in an earlier episode.

She has been acting weird towards Tony ever since him and Jean (or whatever her names was) were so close.

So...not sure if I was really surprised.

I don't want one from the "team" to get killed, not Ducky or Abby either.

So that leaves Jenny, Nicki and Mr. Palmer. Unless it's another NCIS agent from previous episodes that comes in and then leaves permanently.

i also thought that ziva was acting a little weird this episode. she's killed how many people? why did this one get to her so bad? i just don't know.

the reason she was upset about the jogger dying is because she was starting to fall in love with him, but she knew the serial killer guy was the killer, so there was no emotional bonding there. (i don't think)

i knew the other guy wasn't the killer because they kept trying to make it seem as if he were...having him reach over towards her gun, having him ask her about the gun she didn't bring with her to the crime scene. i knew that was all set up.

as for people that might get killed off...i don't think it'll be mr. palmer. he's not that big of a player. i hope if they have to choose someone, they choose jenny. i love the others too much, and couldn't stand it if they took ziva or abbey.

Wasn't the rumor that it was going to be one of the main characters? Or was it just a recurring character?

It took me awhile to figure out too... There was an almost throw away scene near the end that explained it in combination with the flashbacks she kept having. It wasn't having killed the guy that was causing her problems... it was the fact that she felt that she had hesitated and he had nearly killed her as a result. I can't remember exactly what she said, but the implication seemed to be that that bullet crease on her forehead was the closest she'd ever come to buying a bullet herself.

Yeah, that and after being in the US for a couple of years she was afraid she was losing her edge. Her comments about waiting too long to move, etc.

Well, the article says it is a major character and that it will impact future shows. That leads me to believe it will either be Gibbs, Ducky, Jenny, or Abby. Here are my reasons for those guesses. Gibbs is the team leader. If he is killed off, a new team leader will have to be appointed. If it is Ducky, then the team will have to adjust to a new pathologist. If it is Jenny, then they will have a new director. If it is Abby, then they will have to get used to a new lab person.

I doubt it will be Ziva, Tony, or Tim. Getting a new team member would be an adjustment but not as much of one as getting someone to replace one of the other four.

Based on my logic (or lack therof), I think (and hope) it will be Jenny. They have already introduced a possible replacement in Rocky Carroll as Leon. Remember, he temporarily replaced her with the whole Frog murder thing. That would definitely have major ramifications for the team. They would have to adjust to a new leadership style and personality. Anyone who has ever gotten a new boss knows what that is like. Ziva and Jenny were close for years, and of course Gibbs had a relationship with her years ago. It could create some really good story-lines.

The is a spoiler on one spoiler site. No names but they give the general idea of how whoever it is leaves. repercussions to continue into the next season and beyond. hmmm It may be a more major character than we would like to see. Or it could be the usual Hollywood hot air too.
