So who has watched the first episode of season 2?
I just watched this off of Scifi's website. All I'll say is that the picture quality isn't very high.

Woo, I liked this episode, great examination of the characters. At first I was worried that this whole episode would feel like a rehash of the episode of Stargate: Atlantis where Rodney got stuck inside the forcefield created by a glowing green device... but Eureka added some nice twists and really made it work.

I enjoyed the episode too. I'm still waiting to see how Henry changes since the time line has been reset. They keep making these ominous shots of him from time to time.

Oh come on!!! Is this steal plots from other SF season on Eureka? Again, not that this was a bad episode, it had some good characterization, but a lot of the plot points are so similar to Forever Young with Mel Gibson, it's not funny. Right down to the accelerated aging. The only way it could have been more like that movie is if Grandpa Fargo had trouble convincing Belle it was really him (or maybe if Elijah Wood had guest starred as the scientist who revives him)!
So, lets see. Personal force field that can't be turned off, copied from Stargate: Atlantis. Carter in an alternate reality where people disappear, even form other's memory, copied from Star Trek: TNG. Anyone want to argue that last week's shared dream episode is stealing from Nightmare on Elm Street?  Nah, it's probably just taken from one of the many dream episodes of Star Trek.
I don't really want to complain. It's not like it's the first show to put new twists on old plotlines (Buffy the Vampire Slayer was particularly notable for reusing old horror cliches, but was still well written) but sometimes I feel like they're selling themselves short. Or maybe they're smart to focus on the characters, rather than the experiments gone awry, so far they've managed to get more developed characters than most other SF shows do by their second season.

It just shows you how few new ideas are floating around in the entertainment field. Most movies follow the standard Hollywood format. It makes most modern flicks to easy to anticipate.

Absolutely. Totally agree. Just as long as they keep it in plain language so the rest of us sub-genuises can understand. I'm more like the Sheriff than the scientists.  
Just on a lark, I decided to crack open this months PopSci to see what stories might make interesting Eurkea plotlines. The cover didn't provide any ideas, even though "Meet the iClone", a story about how Chinese factories are producing ever more sophisticated copies of products from other countries, brought up the interesting thought about what China's version of Eurkea might be like, I figured that might be a little too political and complicated (though, it might be interesting if that's who Beverly is working for, long term).
Looking inside:
Letters to the editor about skydiving from space (very Eureka), but more of a side-note than a central issue.
A story on living in underwater habitats, the records for longest time under and the tech being developed for self contained environments. Not that underwater research stations and bio-domes haven't been done, but it could make for an interesting murder mystery, how could you kill someone who has been inside a sealed system for the last several months? Especially if the major suspect didn't have reason to kill them before they went in.
Not really a plot point, but the article on the coolest colleges for technology is very Eureka. Students who learn by blowing stuff up, racing cars, triggering lightning strikes, gathering lava samples, etc. We know Eureka has a High School, have they mentioned a college, or is it straight on to GD for those who qualify?
Speaking of racing, it's not in this issue, but there is a group trying to get rocket plane racing off of the ground. I'd love to see if Eureka has a motor sport test track of some sort. That's not a theme I see a lot of in more serious SciFi. Sure, Star Wars had pod racing, but Star Wars is more fantasy than science. Star Trek never really had some version of NASCAR that I remember, nor any other series I can think of off the top of my head... Oh, wait, there was an animated series on Cartoon Network called IGPX that was futuristic racing robots. Not really what I was thinking of, though.
A blurb on how to become famous "internet famous". Makes me wonder if Eureka's High School has it's own version of MySpace, Facebook, or YouTube, or if there is really strict monitoring of what they are allowed to post online. How does GD prevent families from leaking things that they shouldn't? Has a kid ever posted video from their science class on a video site? What would happen if they did?
See, a wealth of topical ideas that haven't been done much in SF.

I've had the opportunity to have a long conversation with one of the technical advisors of that show, and they do actually scour magazines and science journals for ideas, but, well, what makes it onto the screen is a different story. I thought the dream episode was kind of silly. I like it better when they stick to hardcore science instead of delving into the esoteric, like the stuff about the Artifact.

I liked this episode. Especially Carter's budding romance with Corrie the dry-cleaner. The way she was trying to have some witty banter and he took it seriously was hilarious, and a little bit painful because I can be the exact same way. I'm glad the writers made her mature enough to look past his having to question her as a suspect.
On the other hand, I didn't like Zoe's new guy. That situation just seemed a little too cliched and forced on the characters.

Now that you mention it, there does seem to be a fair amount of stalling and indecision going on with that ongoing story-line. It does seem like Henry isn't as angry with Jack as he used to be, especially since he went to Jack for help when he was "stupid".

And when Science can't provide the answers, everyone goes to church. I like this show, but that one dropped this episode down on my all time favorite list.

Hi. I'm new here but I saw this thread (albeit a year old) and thought I'd post. I LOVE Eureka! They've managed to stay witty, funny and you care about the characters - all while staying CLEAN! This is such a novel concept these days....
Anyone here still watching?

). This show is so interesting and funny too. I really like the characters. And it's a show the whole family can watch too. I just saw the most recent episode and "Noche de Suenos". Was that last scene when jo got the present left from Carter on her desk too sweet :)? I almost got misty eyed there. I'm so glad I can get to watch it.
