How close are you to the flooding, Kylie?
How far are you away from Flinders View? Are they anywhere near the flooding? I have a penpal there.

As far as I know Trish the flooding has gotten no further south than Toowoomba and hasn't touched Brisbane at all. In fact it didn't start raining here until about two days ago. It's pretty wet (step outside on the dirt and water pools around your toes), but as yet, nothing above ground here.
I'm not sure where Flinders View is, so can't say (will have to check out whereis.com).

National day of mourning has been announced for sunday. My church was full of people who don't usually come just devastated from the effects of the fires last sunday.

Our church took a love offering last Sunday and are sending to a church in Victoria that knows of a Christian aid facility with very low overheads. It means more of the money goes to the people who really need it. (Not that they don't all need help).
It's so sad that the death toll just keeps rising.
I feel for those who've lost friends and family. I also think of the pets and wildlife that have been lost. RSPCA Animal Rescue is doing a special next Tuesday night about dealing with the hurt animals from the Victorian fires. It makes me wonder where they'd be able to source eucalyptus trees for the koalas with so much devastation.

Never been to Australia but I'd love to go someday. I absolutely ADORE Australian accents!! They are my favorite kind of accent (my favorite would be southern American, but I have one therefore I cannot hear them).
What's the weather like in Australia? Do y'all get many tornadoes there?

Hi there!
Well, now is the start of our winter. Temperatures are getting quite cold. The state I live in doesn't get a heap of snow like a lot of the states in the US. Once a year, we might get enough to have a snowball fight, in the south of our state. It never comes up far enough to come anywhere near the city that I'm in. Over on the eastern states, however, they can get a lot of snow. People go there to ski. I've never seen or touched real snow. Not yet, anyway.
We do get tornadoes. We call them hurricanes here. Thankfully not as many as you do in the US. The hurricanes tend to hit the top of the country most. The north of my state gets them. Sometimes to the south of my city gets mini-tornadoes. Some people I know call it tornado alley. If anything like that is going to hit around our city, you can almost guarantee it'll be in that area. I've lost count how many times they've been hit down there. If I had to choose another area of my city to live in, it wouldn't be there!

I'm glad you and your family had such a good time, Kylie. I remember climbing hills back in New Zealand.
These days, I look at a hill and I'm tired.

That's not surprising.
These days, just standing from a sitting position makes my body shake. Walking is not an easy task for me any more. At least I'm able to walk though.
Are you going to be doing a lot of bushwalking/hiking, Kylie? Or canoeing?
