Just picked up "This Present Darkness" by.....ermm...I think it's Frank Perettii. I've only read one chapter, but it sounds like it's going to be good!

"Fools Gold" by John MacArthur and others. Very good book on problems in the church today." I've got to read that! I love anything by John MacArthur. I'm currently reading through The John MacArthur Study Bible I'm in Ecclesiastes and Hebrews. Also reading "The unwavering Resolve of Jonathan Edwards" by Steve Lawson.

ORIGINAL: isaacsmom I'm reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I haven't seen the movie yet (I ALWAYS read the book first or it messes up my imagination!). I appreciate the storyline, and I know it's fiction, but I have a hard time believing that a high-ranking SS officer's children would be so naive. I didn't know there was a book. I saw the movie about a week ago. I may see if the library has the book.

I've been picking up and putting down books for the past week and nothing seemed to be right. Tonight I picked up one called "Safe at Home" by Richard Doster. It's the story of a young black man playing minor league baseball in the south in the early 50's, and the effect he had on the town. A Jackie Robinson type story. So far it's got me very interested.

ORIGINAL: isaacsmom I've gotten stuck on Juveneille literature this week. Now I'm reading Gossamer by Lois Lowry. She was my favorite author growing up, so now I'm catching up on everything she's written since I've become a grown-up. Next I'll read Messenger and The Willoughbys I loooooooove Lois Lowry. I think I've read everything she's ever written. I didn't know The Boy in the Striped Pajamas was a movie until last week. I adored Lois Lowry growing up. In fact, one of my biggest regrets is not going to meet her when I had the chance when I was 13. She was speaking at the library in our city, and I was chosen by the librarians from all the teen library volunteers in the region to go and present Lois Lowry with a rose on the stage after her speech. The event, however, conflicted with a youth group trip . . . . I chose the youth group trip. What was I thinking????? (obviously, I was thinking like a 13-yr-old, not very clearly). The librarians were very sweet to have a copy of The Giver personally autographed for me. (First edition, she had just won the Newberry). Man, I bang my head against the wall every time I see it sitting on the shelf, LOL.
