Hello all I am Karen and I am new to this forum.

I just finished " My sisters Keeper"by Jodi Picoult which was a great fast read. Great story line with no violence, little sexual references and a little bad language.

and 90 Minutes in Heaven: A True Story of Death & Life by Don Piper just an amazing story about a minister who dies and is in Heaven for 90 min and retell his accounts of heaven as well as his road to recovery and how God used him back on earth. A MUST READ

I am currently reading the "Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd and "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch I highly recommend this book. Randy was a professor at Carnegie-Mellon Univ. and has three children under 5, he has cancer and only has a few months to live. The book is his legacy of life for his children. I pray for his family each night.

In the past I have really enjoyed all of Karen Kingsbury's books.

Anyway, I look forward to everyones suggestions

Hi Karen!

I've just started "Machete Season: The Killers In Rwanda Speak" by Jean Hatzfield.

I've read a lot about the genocide in Rwanda, but nothing that really gets into why the killers had no problem following orders to kill their neighbours. This should be an interesting read.

As a professional writer, sometimes I'm given galleys to read for a possible endorsement (and I do the same when I have something new coming out). Right now I'm reading a novel by Christian suspense master Alton Gansky, a spec-fic piece called Enoch. I'm about two-thirds through, and so far it's simply one of the most spellbinding works I've ever read. If it finishes as strong as I think it will, everyone will definitely want to put this on their Christmas list (it releases this fall through Realms publishing).

I notice that this thread was started in 2005. Because of it's unwieldy length -- 80+ pages -- no newcomer is going to wade through the whole thing.

So, here's a suggestion...

Can we start a new thread each month? That will make it much more manageable and inviting.

Unless you are going for the "Longest Thread" title, in which case have at 'er!

The way you are suggesting is what we used to do! There was a new one every month. I think there was a tangle of threads - some people moved to the new months thread, and some still posted on the old months thread. It was confusing as to where you were to post, and you had to check several threads to make sure you'd read everything.

This thread is different - I don't think there is an expectation that anyone would read the entire thread, but just the more recent posts. Personally, I care more about what people are reading today, than what they were reading 2 years ago.

I wonder if some disclainer could be added to the first post - telling people to go to the current posts?

Besides - I don't think anyone could catch up the "hate Harry" threads....for longest threads - hehe

I think it's a good suggestion. Very long threads can certainly be daunting and just not worth the time of tackling them.

I think that's a good idea, but a mod would need to lock the older threads so we didn't end up with the three "What Are You Reading This Month" threads going at the same time, like we had before that floydette is remembering.

Since this is just an informational thread more than a chat thread I like it as it is. I tend to forget to unsubscribe to the old and subscribe to the new. The older I get the easier I like it.

I am currently reading "They Call Me Naughty Lola: Personal Ads From the London Review of Books."

It's a collection of some of the most hilarious (and yet serious) personal ads.

I'm about to start "A Hat Full of Sky" by Terry Pratchett.

RE this thread: If it ain't broke don't fix it. Besides, it's kinda fun to look back and see what I was reading last year, or two years ago.

Okay, here's my list for what I am currently reading. I am not into fiction too much, so most of my reading is nonfiction.

1. Mac OS X Tiger Edition, by David Pogue. Over 800+ pages, but worth it.
2. The Sugar Solution: Your Symptoms Are Real -- And Your Solution Is Here, by the Editors of Prevention Magazine.
3. Prayer Works, by Brother Andrew.
4. The Christian and the Pharisee: Two Outspoken Religious Leaders Debate the Road to Heaven, by Dr. R. T. Kendall and Rabbi David Rosen.
5. Revolution in World Missions, by K. P. Yohannan.
6. The Road to Reality: Coming Home to Jesus from the Unreal World, by K. P. Yohannan.
7. Good to Great in God's Eyes: Ten Practices Great Christians Have in Common, by Chip Ingram.
8. Walking With God: Talk to Him. Hear From Him. Really, by John Eldredge.
9. Israel and the Church: God's Road Map, by Rebecca J. Brimmer and Bridges For Peace Leaders.
10. Living in the Light of Eternity: Discovering God's Design for Your Life, by K. P. Yohannan.
11. Reflecting His Image: The Beauty of Following Christ Intimately, by K. P. Yohannan.
12. Back to Jerusalem: Three Chinese House Church Leaders Share Their Vision to Complete The Great Commission, by Paul Hattaway.
13. Set My Heart on Fire: Experience the Power of the Holy Spirit, by Catherine Martin.
14. Creative Bible Teaching, by Lawrence O. Richards & Gary J. Bredfeldt.
15. iPod & iTunes for Dummies, by Tony Bove & Cheryl Rhodes.
16. The Torah Story: An Apprenticeship on the Pentateuch, by Gary Edward Schnittjer.
17. The Promise-Plan of God: A Biblical Theology of the Old and New Testaments, by Walter C. Kaiser, Jr.
18. The Search for the Twelve Apostles, by William Steuart McBirnie, Ph.D.
19. Bible Archaeology: An Exploration of the History and Culture of Early Civilizations, by Alfred Hoerth & John McRay.
20. Baker's Bible Atlas, by Charles F. Pfeiffer.
21. Families Where Grace is in Place: Getting Free from the Burden of Pressuring, Controlling, and Manipulating Your Spouse and Children, by Jeff VanVonderen.
22. Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes: Cultural Studies in the Gospels, by Kenneth E. Bailey.

Reading this many books at a time takes a long time though, so I will occasionally just pick one and timber up on it to finish it, and to make my pile go down. But I like having a lot of books on the go.

wshepherd: LOL! I may have that many books on my to-be-read pile, but I couldn't keep up with all that at once!

Let us know if you learn anything new and cool from your iPod book. I just got a classic for mother's day (replacing a 4 year old Mini that's going to kick it soon). I have no idea how I'll fill all 80 gb, but I've already started converting recorded dvds to iTunes format (starting with the recent Jane Austen stories on PBS).

When I get home I'll start The Return of the King by JRR Tolkien or The Martial Arts of Renaissance Europe by Sydney Anglo. By the end of the weekend I'll have started both.

I read that a couple weeks ago...it's really good.

I plan to start reading "The Hobbit" (JRR Tolkein) today if time permits.

Right now I am on page 318 of Les Miserables... almost 1/3 of the way through!

It is actually very easy reading... until he gets into long descriptive chapters of things like Waterloo...
