Thnx, but I don't know, I can't just seem to get into C S Lewis as a writer, anyway.

You might give Mere Christianity a try.

Aye, this is indeed wonderful. This and The Screwtape Letters are the ones I've read.

Bad Childhood, Good Life by Dr. Laura

What do you think of it?

I'm not far into it yet due to work and being busy the last few days, but so far, so good :) I'm a fan of hers and I've heard good things about this book.

Dred -> RE: What Are You Currently Reading? (8/26/2008 2:59:36 PM)

I think my favorite Lewis book would have to be The Great Divorce. It's not at all a thick book, so I recommend it to those who aren't sure if they want to read something larger.

Hi, so is it about divorce, literally?

He mentions in the preface that Blake wrote of the marriage of heaven and hell and that he is writing of their divorce. He mentions the human tendency to want to find a way to reconcile certain things--to have it both ways--but maintains there are things that can't go together. You see the necessity of repentance and a picture of why it can be hard to do. I've always thought Lewis had a particularly good insight into human beings and the ways in which we deceive ourselves.

Just picked these up today:

**The Power of Praying Through the Bible, by Stormie Omartian.

**The Jesus Who Never Lived: Exposing False Christs and Finding the Real Jesus, by H. Wayne House.

**The Destiny of Islam in the Endtimes: Understanding God's Heart for the Muslim People, by Faisal Malick.

wshepherd:

I've not heard of the other authors but I have seen Stormie O's name, but haven't read any of her works, that I recall. Is she Pentecostal, maybe?

Take care.

I'm not really sure. I know that she and her husband met and attended Jack Hayford's Church on the Way for many years. Jack Hayford is Four Square, I believe, and charismatic. I think Stormie and her family live in Nashville now. Don't know what church they attend there.

I've always liked her books. She's a good communicator.

As for the other authors I mentioned,

quote:

H. Wayne House has been a professor of biblical studies, theology, or law for more than 30 years. He is currently Distinguished Research Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Faith Evangelical Seminary (Tacoma, WA). He has authored, coauthored, or edited 30 books.

and

quote:

Faisal Malick, a former Sunni Muslim born in Pakistan, is currently Director of Covenant of Life Ministries. He and his wife, Sabina, are hosts and visionaries of the daily TV show The Plumbline seen across North America. They live and minister in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.

BTW - Francine Rivers Mark of the Lion Series is awesome!
Dallas Willard's Hearing God is also excellent.
And I very much enjoyed The Shack.

It is book two of a series of four books. The first one, Going Home was about a young woman returning to her Amish family. On Her Own is about another Amish woman who has been recently widowed and has four young sons, one of which is an infant.

faroukfarouk -> RE: What Are You Currently Reading? (8/30/2008 5:41:49 AM)

DD:

Well, interesting. I guess some of the Amish /Old Order Mennonites/Hutterites etc have a hard time adjusting if they decide to leave their compounds or communities, right?

Sounds an intersting book, thnx.

Wow, you learn something new every day. I know about Amish and Mennonites, but have never heard of Hutterites before. Something I'll have to look up.
