{{{{{{{ZONDIE}}}}}}}}} . . . so good to see you back in here . . . I'll be praying for your son. I've missed your posts lately! I hope things settle back down for you soon.

Yeah, Trish, I have really missed Garrett. I hope too this program will help him. I think it will if one of the workers will take him under her wing -- mother him, so to speak. He's still such a baby. I know he's 3 years old now (to answer your question, Zondie), but he is so far from that. Developmentally, I put him at approximately 16-18 months, and even that is stretching it. Last night I got to thinking about having to take him onto the bus and strap him in a car seat, and it really bothers me . . . doesn't seem right to have to be sending such a little tyke off by himself like that . . . . well, I can't think about it --- it really is too upsetting. I guess I'll be able to do it when the time comes . . so long as he doesn't start crying.

My friend Bernice is coming in on the train today . . I'll be going to pick her up around 10:30 or so. Another friend will ride with me, and of course, Garrett. We'll have a good time.

Hi Trish. Yes we did have fun today. He had a ball at the train station . . there were lots of other passengers waiting, including a fair amount of kids, and it was a safe place to just allow him to get down and run around. That was really good because we had nearly a 2 hour wait for the train -- it was very late. He didn't even start to show any signs of being tired until just the last few minutes, tho. He got excited about seeing the trains -- a freight train went by before the Amtrak arrived, and we were able to stand out on the walkway/ramp to seem them closely.

Afterwards, we went to a late lunch at a Mexican restaurant, and he ate like a little pig! He polished off a bunch of chips and salsa, which was no surprise cuz chips & dip is always a favorite with him. He ate so many, tho, I was afraid he wouldn't eat any food. At first he wouldn't take a bite for me, but then he tried to pick up a piece of food I'd dropped on the table, so I got the idea and let him have his own plate & spoon and he gobbled up a good portion of my lunch -- a taco, a burrito and an enchilada, plus some refried beans and rice. I was beginning to wonder if I'd left him enough food to fill him up! It was grand to see him eating so well.

He listened to his music and talked all the way home, not falling asleep until just before we got to town, then he woke up when I let Bernice off at our friend's house. So, he only got about 5-10 minutes sleep, and I'm sure he conked out early tonight.

I have something really upsetting me, tho, and I'd like some prayer about it. Last night, as I lay in bed unable to sleep, I began thinking about putting him on the school bus Monday -- with a bunch of strangers, to send him off to a classroom of another bunch of strangers. He's 3 years old, but not really, and that kind of thing can be traumatic even for a 'mature' 3 year old. Garrett is not a 'mature' 3 year old . . he's not even a mature 18 month old!

So, I decided I'd ask his daddy if I could take him to school his first day, let him meet the teachers & aides, so he at least wouldn't be spending the entire afternoon with a bunch of strangers. I first asked him if Garrett had been with him when he went to enroll him in the school, and he said no. Then I made the above request and he said no to that also. Said he'd be alright. I pointed out that he'd never met these ppl before, and I wouldn't even send a 5 year old into a classroom with a bunch of strangers -- that's why schools hold open house before classes start -- to give the kids an opportunity to meet their teachers, and hopefully some of their peers. But no, he insisted these ppl were 'trained to handle this sort of thing' and he'd be alright. . . . I've subbed at this particular school, and know the ppl, and they are very good. But I know that everyone of them would agree that an introduction would be in order before we send this BABY into this kind of classroom.

I didn't want to get into an argument with him -- we've really never disagreen on anything, but I was so very upset. He finally said he'd ask the teacher when she called (which she was supposed to do by today) to let us know what time the bus woudl be there. However, I asked when he picked up Garrett if he'd heard from her and he said no, so just to figure the bus woudl be here at 11:00 . . . I should hope not!! If he spent an hour on the bus, that would mean he'd be gone 5 hours --- that's insane for such a small child! What is he thinking??? . . . . . . I know it's not doing any good to get so worked up over this, but it really has made me so angry.

Please pray that God will intervene and get him to change his mind. I think Garrett will be okay there, but he really REALLY needs to be 'introduced' to the teachers . . . good grief, they even insisted that I meet him before they left him with me the first time, and he was only 15 months old then -- well, really he was only 4 or 5 months old, developmentally. And if anyone reads this tonight, I'd also appreciate a prayer that I would get some sleep this weekend because this is really upsetting me.

I'll be praying for Garrett, his daddy and you. I couldn't send my 3 yr old baby away on a bus for any reason.

Trish, I can't see graphics and power points on my home computer either. I really miss having Microsoft Office at home.

I have a computer lab where I work and I used my lunch breaks and stayed after work to do my power point then I attached it to an email and sent it on to Maggie and Linda and my pastor.

Last night when it played on the church screen I noticed on one of the slides the words had gotten mixed up some. I guess when you email something sometimes the formatting gets jumbled. It was fine when I attached it to the email.

((((((((((((((((((LEAH)))))))))))))))))))))))

Will do.

Mike, I've got an old Windows 98 that doesn't have much RAM. It's also running in safe mode as we're having problems with the computer.

Bummer Trish, but I can relate! I had a very old system myself until about a year ago.

Oh Leah! What upsetting news about little Garrett! You know I'll be praying about this. He's just TOO YOUNG to be sending off on his own. I don't understand anyone (especially a parent) thinking of such a thing! I can see why this would upset you and cause you to lay awake at night. This could be such a trauma in his life, that the whole point of sending him in the first place would be defeated.

I'm glad to hear that all of you had such a good time at the train station and at lunch. You explained it all so well that I could almost see it happening! Thanx for sharing the story, it made me smile!

Good morning/afternoon Beckey, Mike, Trish, Zondie & Pengie -- Thank you so much for your prayers. Garrett just arrived a bit ago, and it seems I am going to be able to take him today afterall. He has a huge totebag of stuff to take to the school too, so it was sure a good thing! I'm so thankful I don't have to put him on that bus. I guess I will have to do that tomorrow, but at least today he will be able to meet his teachers and get to feel a little familiar with the classroom.

Beckey, if Garrett was really 3 years old, that woudl be bad enough, but he's not . . . developmentally he's only about 16-18 months. I don't agree he needs to be in this special school yet -- he's just too young to be away from home for that long -- well, away from those he's grown familiar with. I do think the therapy they offer will help, but that could have been arranged to be given here at my house. However, he's not my child and it's not my decision. Right now I am just thankful for the opportunity to take him to the classroom personally and allow him to spend some time with the teacher before I just take off & leave him there.

I went to the gym early this morning, so guess I need to go get my shower and get cleaned up to go down there.

Thanks again for all your prayers.

I understand Leah....heck, my kids are 6 and 7 now, and it would still kill me to put them on a school bus.

I took him to school . . I knew all the 3 teachers there, had worked with all of them, adn they are all very good. He made himself right at home and seemed excited to be around all the kids. They were in teh process of getting the other kids off the bus when I arrived, so we waited for them to walk with them to the classroom. As soon as we got in there, he walked over & hugged the teacher's leg . . . then he went around the room checking everyone out, give a few kisses -- he's a lover, for sure. He told me goodbye, hugged & kissed me, then rather reluctantly backed away, but he didn't cry when I left.

Now he's home and doing fine. He looked like such a little big shot all done up in the special seating on teh bus . . this bus has built in child seats, so he was strapped in well. I think the busdriver could see him in the rear-view mirror, and she'd apparently been talking to him cuz she was laughing at him. His daddy said the teacher called him after school and said he'd done fine -- had gotten upset one time cuz they were going to sit at the table and paint or color and he wanted to play, but he just cried for a bit and pouted, then he was okay. He's such a little trooper! They actually do a lot of playing at this school, so it's not all sitting. A good deal of what they teaching is social skills.

I tried to get him to take a nap when he got home, but no doing! Now he's up, has eaten a whole nutri-grain bar, and is exploring my house -- and playing the piano

Yeah, me too. His daddy didn't pick him up until after 6:30 . . think there's stuff going on there. Anyway, Garrett was so tired he just kept tripping over his own feet, but he wouldn't stay either in the swing, in my arms or in the bed long enough to fall asleep.

We spent a good deal of time out in the backyard swing, and I thought sure he'd let me swing him to sleep, but nope . . had to be turning somersaults, singing & dancing or running after Samson the entire time. He wanted me to do somersaults with him, but when he'd get up he'd stumble 2-3 steps forward, then stumble 2-3 steps backward, repeat half that again, then fall -- and giggle! Then up he'd come to try it again . . . he was exhausting me, but he never hardly slowed down.

Thanks, Trish. How are you doing? And how is John?? I'm on my way to your threads right now, so maybe there'll be something there.

I have an appointment today for a mammogram . . . finally got an organization to help with the cost of that. And while I'm in that town, I'll have lunch with Ginny (vmginny).

John's doing better. No nosebleeds today. He's got a doctor's appointment tomorrow and is going to get a referral to see an ENT specialist.

Me? I'm sore, but I'll live. The stress of last night wasn't helpful. Joan and I didn't sleep very well thinking we might need to get John to hospital some time during the night. Thankfully we didn't have to.

Mammograms are terrible! I have to start having regular mammograms when I turn 40, so that's next year. My mum had breast cancer and had to have a mastectomy. Because I've had borderline malignant ovarian cysts, they don't want to take any chances on me either.

Have fun with Ginny. Please give each other a hug from me.

So glad to hear that Garrett had such a good first day! Sounds like he's gonna adjust to it just fine. All the excitement must've hyped his energy level up a bit. I couldn't have kept up with all that either.

Glad to hear you're finally getting that mammogram, Leah. Hope the report on it turns out good.

Trish, I don't know who John is...but I'll be praying for him. I'm guessing he's your son???
