Hi everyone! I didn't realize until last night that this was where Linda was posting the most about my visit. I've just caught up now. I'm having a great time. Linda is a wonderful hostess and she has such a beautiful home. I wish I was as good at decorating as she is. I really need her to come back up north with me so she can tell me what to do with my place. St. James was good today. We visited three different shops and we found some really good sales of Christmas stuff--75% off. The shop owners might as well give it away as sell it for such low prices. I've been watching for little "stocking stuffers" and have found several. I buy way too much of that sort of thing for my boys and their girlfriends but I have a lot of fun doing it and they seem to have fun receiving it so it's a good fit. I bought some painted wooden pails with lids for 31 cents each--big enough to hold a wee bit of candy. I got some teeny bars of handmade soap too. To give them when I get home, I bought some root beer from a micro-brewery. The bottles have a quote on them about root beer from some traveller in 1848 that was fun. I also bought a "sign" to put up in my house somewhere. It's not really a sign, but I don't know what else to call it. All it is is the letters to three sentences--all in order and everything--that can be fixed to the wall. I don't remember exactly what it says but it's about the family being a circle that grows with births and unions and is strengthened by crises. When I saw the selection, I went through them all, looking for something that would encourage my family to be more than what we are and I think this fits the bill. It was pricey but if it makes a difference to our home, it will be worth it. Linda's reading a book by Toby Mac we found yesterday at her local bookstore. She's really enjoying it because it is full of short stories of America's history with an emphasis on how God was part of that history. I'm tired. I think I'll go to bed early. I'm going to need an entire day to sleep soon, just to catch up, but I begrudge doing that when I could be visiting with Linda so it will have to wait. Hugs to you all!

I hope this vacation time helps you to get a break from your anxieties for a while. It is! I will leave here on Saturday, have lunch with Ginny that day and then drive to Kansas City where I'll stay for a number of days to spend time at the International House of Prayer there, pray, read, study, think, ponder, etc. I'm looking forward to it.

Sounds like so much fun is being had that I wish that I were there too! Funny, I bought some Christmas decorations today too. I hadn't seen them the last time I was at the store, but I loved the ones I got. I thought all the Christmas decorations would be well and truly gone by now.

Good morning, friends! Well, we're winding down on the tail-end of Maggie's visit . . . it sure has been lots of fun -- even those rare 'down' times when we just sat in each other's company quietly doing our thing --- ok, ok, that only happened once or twice, but it DID happen Yesterday we had a mostly quiet day -- went to town to have lunch with a friend of mine at the Senior Center, stopped at a couple of stores, then back home to relax. Maggie went back to town by herself later & prowled around a bit. Today, Ginny is going to join us again for a day of visiting, playing games & eating -- I promised to put the lasagna in on time this today, so no last minute scrambling for something to eat . . . but mostly we're going to relax and have fun. Maggie's Bible games she brought are wonderful for learning new facts and getting familiar with looking up scripture, and I've amazed myself (and Maggie) with how well I've done with the questions. Guess I have more knowledge in there than I give myself credit for

Yeah, even those rare quiet times were nice. Very relaxing. And despite Linda's protests to the contrary, she has been the perfect hostess. I have felt comfortable and at home. She feels badly that I've made my own tea or my own porridge but I would feel VERY awkward if she were serving me hand and foot. Friends cooperate and do things together and that's what the past eight or nine days have been. It's all been perfect.

Maggie and Leah have both made me feel welcome and accepted me just as I am which I appreciate. It's great to be visiting with people that I don't have to think what are they going to say about me when I leave? I've had fun playing games even the Bible Trivia game though I'm not as good as Leah nor Maggie in remembering facts from the Bible I did enjoy learning more. I am looking forward to seeing Maggie for lunch and also in seeing more of Leah in the future. I've really missed not having girlfriends to spend time with and am so thankful God has brought these two into my life. Ginny

Thank you Maggie & Ginny -- you're both being very kind. And yes, Trish, I'm certainly glad for that friendship, too, as well as the many other friends I have on here that I may never have the pleasure of meeting in person this side of heaven. But not meeting sure doesn't mean not being able to be grateful and thankful for those friendships -- yours included, Trish -- you've been a great friend! and I wish I could give you a real -- IRL! But it's easy to be a 'good hostess' to such appreciative and thoughtful guests . . . it's amazing, really, that we have one bathroom and Maggie spent 9 nights here, yet we didn't once run into each other in the hall in the middle of the night, tho Bill & I are nearly always up at least once a night -- playing musical beds, if nothing else. I try to tell everyone who visits me to make themselves at home, and I truly mean that. When a guest does that, I know they have accepted me as I am (with all my hostessing shortcomings), AND I worry less about forgetting to offer them something to drink, eat, etc., knowing they will get what they want when they want. Bill says I'm not a good hostess in that respect, and he's right -- I get busy visiting and simply forget! But if a guest has truly made herself at home, she will just ask for what she wants or get it herself, which is what most of my guests have done. Bill is so much better at playing host than I am at hostessing, so it really helps to have him around when I'm entertaining guests . . . of course, there are those moments when he may push a little too far into our visiting -- especially when he comes in and coaches them in the games . . as if Maggie needed any help in that area! Actually, he is great about my friends visiting, even tho he knows he will be a bit neglected while they are here . . I think he simply loves watching me enjoy myself. He has his shortcomings, but all in all he's a very generous guy who is very much in love with me . . and the feelings are mutual . . . it was his idea last Saturday to have supper waiting on us when we returned from Hermann -- I certainly woudln't have suggested he do that! But it didn't surprise me because he's done that before when I've gone off gallivantin' with my friends. It's a wonderfully generous gesture on his part, and goes far into convincing my friends that he really accepts them being here. He's a keeper, alright! But, back to the visit . . . Maggie had been here before, and I'm sure she had picked up at that time that we are very informal people. Bill & I seldom eat at our table, so I seldom dish up the food into serving bowls. Therefore, it's really difficult to get used to something as simple as 'setting the table', as Maggie can attest to. More often than not, I simply handed her a plate, flatwear, a napkin or let her get it herself while I was finishing up the last of the meal prep . . . . Ultra Casual . . . she seemed very easy with that also. So, what is left to hostessing . . . fix some food, join them at the table, have lots of fun! And THAT we did!! My kind of hostessing, for sure! I did fix her a good breakfast this morning -- told her I liked to do that with guests to leave a great 'last' impression! (hopefully that erases any faux pas I might have committed earlier) . . . She left here about 11:00 and was to meet Ginnie at noon, then drive on north 3-4 hours before stopping for the night, so she should be reaching her destination just any time now. She indicated she'd not be logging in to MSN, but we shall see . I suspect she will at some point, if only to reassure me she's arrived in KC on time and ok. I know the house seems interminable quiet since she's gone -- especially since Bill is in the recliner snoozing, so the only noise is the clacking of the keyboard and his soft snoring We did take a drive after she'd left, tho. I needed to go to the health food store and he opted to go with me, then we drove on to a neighboring town and looked at flooring to finish out what we need for the guest room. I also took the opportunity to look at bathroom basins since I plan to do something with the bathroom later this spring. I found a very pretty one for an affordable price (i.e. VERY cheap), so I was pleased. We both piddled with some projects when we returned, then just sat back & relaxed a bit. It's taken me forever to type this post -- think I've been multi-tasking, tho not sure with what

Therefore, it's really difficult to get used to something as simple as 'setting the table', as Maggie can attest to I don't set the table anymore at my house and haven't for years. My family at one time had 12 people in the home and it was just too much so I started preparing plates at the stove. Now we are used to setting out plates and when the food is ready I say, "Come on and get it, food is ready!" Therefore I didn't expect to have serving dishes. The plate of steak, baked potatoes, and corn was absolutely delicious. Any time Bill would like to do that again I'm all ready to accept. I can still taste that steak. Oh, yum. Maggie didn't leave the restaurant until 4 pm so she got a late start to Kansas City. Hope she makes it alright and hope she is right that her reservations are secure and a room will be waiting for her. I loved our visit. Thanks Trish. I can always use more friends and online friends are great from what I've found. I post almost everyday in the Daily chat thread if you would like to get to know me better. Sure would like to have you post there too. Ginny

Welcome to my thread, Rebekah -- and thank you! And yes, the visit was very much enjoyed. As I said in the chat thread, it's been terribly quiet here for the last 22 hours BTW, just heard that California is 'enjoying' some wintry weather -- would that include your area?

Welcome, Jewels! I'm in the prayer room at IHOP. My hotel leaves a lot to be desired but I love the prayer room (the size of middle-sized church sanctuary). There are outlets for computers, comfortable chairs at tables and wifi. A group of musicians are singing non-stop to God: lead on keyboard, guitar, 2 violins, cello, harp, drums and four singers.

Yes, Zondie, Maggie and her hubby came to see us just 1½ years ago . . had a very nice stay and we enjoyed showing them around our part of the country, tho Maggie had been thru here before -- a few times, I think. And yes, we did enjoy ourselves tremendously -- both times! But this time was extra special with us having lots of time to just relax, play games and talk talk talk!!! . . . And I'm so glad Ginny was able to join us for much of that. Actually, she is not home yet . . she's in Kansas City, MO . . . she wanted to spend some time at the International House of Prayer before heading home. I think she plans to arrive home around Thursday. Garrett was home sick today . . had a bad cough, tho he seemed to feel pretty good. But it was so cold out, and the bus is always very cold when he gets on it, so I chose to keep him home. I was trying to teach him to cover his mouth when he coughed . . . it was so cute! He'd put both hands on his face, and gave a fake cough -- of course, leaving a wide opening right over his mouth . . . then of course he wanted me to do the same, so we traded fake coughs for a while We have sleet coming down now, with a mixture of snow/sleet/freezing rain predicted for most of tonight and tomorrow, so we likely won't have school for a day or two. Bill said there was already 1/4 - 1/2 inch of ice on the roads in a nearby town where he works, just east of here, and lots of emergency vehicles out on the interstate on the way home. Looks like it's going to get pretty bad. I do hope we don't have the ice like we had 2 years ago that nearly destroyed all our trees. They just this summer started to look decent again after all the damage that was done to them. At least we now how insurance that will cover the roof if it's damaged. Anyway, looks like Maggie got out of here just in time. Even tho they have a lot of snow up in Winnipeg, they really don't have much ice, so she would not like driving on this. So far, this looks like sleet, and that won't stick to the trees enough to do the sort of damage we had back then.

We're under a 'Winter Storm Warning' here. It's expected to be here by midnight and last through Wednesday. They're predicting freezing rain, sleet and up to 4" of snow before it's all over. I forgot that Maggie was gonna stay in Kansas City, MO for a bit before returning home. Thanks for reminding me. I can imagine that little booger (Garrett) pretending to cough while learning his manners with it. Everything turns into a game at that age. But that's how you can keep them interested in learning, huh? You're a good teacher, Leah!

Hi Linda! My two older sons and my daughter and I got to the courthouse at 8:45 and the trial wasn't over until 6:45. It's been a long day. Hope Maggie won't get bogged down in KC with the ice. It was sleeting all over the place when we got out of court and is coming down good here where I am at. My DS2 is happy. He's got work! He'll pull an all nighter making sure his businesses and other places have salt down and/or are snow plowed. He didn't leave the courthouse until 1:00 when it was decided he may not be needed as a witness. Ginny
