What kind of cereal are you eating for a snack? Most cereal has way too much sugar and not enough fiber. I suggest eating fruit for your snack and if that is not enough protein, add a few raw nuts. For lunch, try making your sandwich with just one slice of bread. You can do it either open face or like a half sandwich with the same amount of filling. Can you use a low fat mayo, low fat cream cheese or mustard instead of regular mayo? Anne

Yeah it probably does. Its Kelloggs smart start but it's sweet. My thinking was it's a little healthier than other cereals. I think its whole grain. I have to check the box. Ok, fruit and nuts I can do. I just ate a banana instead of the cereal. But that's still healthy sugar but still sugar. I think I have to eat 2 slices. The sandwich with everything is only 200 calories including Mayo. I can do something else besides the sandwich though. Maybe soup? My energy gets low so I can't just eat 1 slice, the meal and cheese. Yes I can do low fat mayo or mustard. Does it have less sugar? The bread is some type of low calorie only 40 per slice already. Thanks for suggestions.

Cottage cheese works well too ~ you can blend it and that will get rid of the lumps and add some herbs, chilli, ground pepper to it to help season it (watch if you add salt though ~ a little is ok, don't overdo it though).

Natures own honey wheat Light. It doesn't have grains in it. It says 2x the fiber.Its unbleached enriched wheat flour. I'll add a salad. I can add some veges. I dont have to do salad dressing, doesnt matter much to me. Right now I'm only drinking water and eating the things above. No extras. But from what I listed is this too much sugar? I'm kinda going by what I learned from gestational diabetes diet. I couldnt eat most of these thing as to my sugar would go up. I couldnt eat fruit at all. I lost weight then. I'm still thinking because of this I'm eating too much sugar. I don't do any other type of added sugar drinks or foods.

I'm not sure of what sugar is in the foods you are eating ~ most will give you the nutritional information on the pack ~ and if not, look at the ingredients ~ they generally list them in quantity order and if sugar is near the top, you're perhaps getting too much. I wonder what your fat content of the foods you ear are like? Cheese, mayo, some meats, muffins, perhaps the kielbasa has a higher than is good for you fat content? quote:

I know you're counting cals, but often the 'light' breads are 'light' because they weigh less per slice ~ they're thinner slices or they've had things added to them to make them lighter (often more like a cake texture). A bread that isn't 'light' may be more calories, but you'll need to eat less. I make a barley bread that has the kind of texture of a pumpernickel bread (close, dense) but I eat less of it than most breads because it fills me up more ~ and because it's low GI/GL it keeps me full for longer too.

Raisin Bran - Check the box, but I think it is the multi-grain raisin bran has 8 grms of fiber. Good stuff! :)

I love raisin bran but not to snack on with no milk. I love with milk but it makes my stomach bloated.

HesallIneed ~ couple of questions ~ you say that you are counting calories ~ do you have an ideal amount of calories that you aim not to exceed? You've also mentioned diabeties, do you have diabeties, or did you just follow the diet? And do you do any exercise?

If the label says enriched wheat flour, that is white flour. 27 vitamins and minerals have been thrown away. 7 to 9 have been added and they call it "enriched". I'd call it robbery. The nutrition and fiber from the whole wheat kernels is GONE. You need to increase your fiber to keep you feeling full and to keep in good health. Forget about the diet or light bread. Get a good quality WHOLE wheat bread. Do not go by the color. They often add a brown food coloring to white bread. Feel the weight of the loaf of bread. Bread with a good amount of fiber is heavy. Avoid breads made with high fructose corn syrup. Peace, Anne

HesallIneed, I know this is going to fly in the face of all you've been taught, but a low fat/high carb diet has been shown to not be helpful for most people who want to lose weight. IMHO, the best way to lose weight is with a controlled carborhydrate healthy eating plan, where you eat more protein and low carb veggies and limit the amounts of high carb foods like bread, potatoes, fruit, corn, rice pasta, sweets, etc. I've lost 93 1/2 lbs since December 2005 eating this way and continue to lose weight. A NEW WEEK ... A NEW APPROACH My weight loss has been really slow for the past 4 weeks, so I've decided to try making some changes in my eating plan. Now that I've had the weekend off and "cycled my calories upward" for the past two days, I am ready for a new approach. My plan is to try this for the next 4 weeks, and then to re-evaluate how things improved/changed as a result of my changes. I WILL BE INCREASING MY CALORIES BY 200 TO 1700 I have been eating 1500 calories a day (most days... not non-logging days), but I've also been increasing my exercise, especially biking and walking and gardening. And my plan is to increase the amount of biking that I do. So, my plan is to INCREASE my calories by 200 each day, so that my metabolism doesn't slow down thinking that my body is approaching starvation mode. I've decided to try this for the next 4 weeks. I WILL BE INCREASING MY FAT INTAKE FROM 15 TO 20 PERCENT I have decided to be intentional about eating more almonds each day, as well as more healthy fats. (OK, and more Laughing Cow Light low fat cheese, too!) I have noticed some dry skin, and think that the increased fat should be fine and shouldn't adversely impact my cholesterol and triglyceride levels ... plus I love cheese and I love nuts, so this will be nice for my happy tastebuds. I WILL BE INCREASING MY PROTEIN INTAKE, AND DECREASING CARBS Now that I have stopped taking insulin, I am seeing higher blood sugars. My plan for combatting this is to attempt to limit my carbs to 200g each day .... and to really keep them as close to 50% as possible. (They've been approaching 55-60% ... and I want to tweak these percentages a bit to see if it helps both my diabetes and my weight loss.) I do want to keep my high-fiber, veggie-laden diet, so this means that I really will be using those extra 200 calories a day to eat more protein (as opposed to eating fewer veggies.) Of course, any suggestions or advice anyone has will be greatly appreciated.... especially about the calorie increase, the fat percentages, or the carb/protein ratio. I do have to be careful not to decrease my carbs by too much, since I have a history of low blood sugars .... which prevent me from being able to exercise. Anyway, wish me luck as I try something new!!!

I try for 1500 calories per day. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter last year. So I wasn't able to eat any sweets and lost some weight. Yes I walk 5 times a week for a total of 25-45 min. I go to the gym twice a week doing weights both days including cardio and one of the 3: ellytical 20 min., belly dancing, zumba 30 to an hour. Sometimes I add in another day of walking about 20 min or going to the gym. Peace77, the bread was actually mostly white. But they have the whole grain in the same bread that I've used before. I buy that one once I finish this one. Just saw the 40 calories and thought I would try it. Thanks I'll remember to look for the fructose amount. Thanks MyCatSmokey2006 I'll check out the thread.

Well there's avocado oil, pumpkin oil, walnut oil, sesame oil and rice bran oil ~ none of which should contain olive oil and have different health benefits. Rice bran oil has a really high smoke point so is great for cooking (as long as I can keep getting it I'm going to use it instead of olive oil), it's a great source of vitamin E, antioxidants and micronutrients and studies have shown it helps reduce cholesterol levels. It also has a long shelf life. Just a thought...

I try to eat as much raw food as possible--huge salads with almonds and tuna --or fruit--the one cook food I eat every day is green beans I just cant seem to go through a day with out my beans!! I also started taking stress B and apple cider vinegar--we shall see!!

WHY I THINK SHOPPING AT WALMART "COUNTS" AS EXERCISE We went to WalMart yesterday afternoon because I wanted to get some prescription sunglasses with those nifty Transitions lenses. When I looked at prices for just eyeglass FRAMES at the doc's office, my heart started racing and my blood pressure had to have skyrocketed .... $240 for JUST the frames, before lenses were even added. So, by the time we reached Walmart, my heart rate was already up ... and in prime exercise mode. After looking at and trying on 21 different pairs of glasses (nice use of upper body there .... lift, try on, lift, try on) ... I decided on a pair that both my wonderful DH and I liked. Then, since were were AT Walmart, we decided to pick up some basics. While he wandered off in search of mouthwash and deodorant, I mosey'd on over to the bra department. For some silly reason, I thought that I would look at sports bras. Of course, the NORMAL way to try on bras is usually to take it with you to a dressing room, take off whatever you are wearing, and THEN try on the bra. I figured I'd save walking to the dressing room AND undressing by just trying on the sports bra OVER the tank top I was already wearing. OH MY GOSH. Have you ever attempted to put on a probably-too-small sports bra OVER a tank top? About halfway through, I got stuck ... my arms contorted awkwardly, and I couldn't get the damn thing ON or OFF. So I started laughing to myself at the absurdity of the situation .... which made it even worse. As I gyrated and contorted and tugged, my husband finally arrived, only to be laughing so hard as to not be much help. Finally, he clued in that he should probably save me from this attacking sports bra, so he gallantly tugs for me to help me put it ON. (Not OFF, mind you.) As I stood there, panting for breath and unable to breathe deeply because the darn things was too small, I realized that NOW I had to get the silly thing OFF. (No, it didn't have snaps.) So my wonderful DH gallantly held on to the bottom of my tank top so it didn't ride up, as I squirmed and struggled and wiggled my way OUT of the death grip of that brassiere. By the time I was done, I was panting and sweating. Who needs sports when sports bras exist? Then my wonderful DH made some sort of silly wisecrack, and I ended up chasing him through half the store with the cart, until I finally caught up with him by the pet food. He is lucky I was so winded and tired or I'd have run him down, LOL! So that, my friends, is why shopping at Walmart counts as exercise!!!!!

Hello to all the brave people trying to loose weight. I have battled this one all my adult life. I finally lost 40 lbs with the help of a therapist. I could only afford that so long. Then about 5 years ago I foud out I have type 2 diabetes. I lost another 20 lbs. I still need to loss another 40. Right now I cannot exercise due to the fact I have arthritis and cannot stay on my feet or walk that long. To get more nutrition in your diet has anyone tried putting flax seed in your food. I found some and we ground it up. We put it in justabout any thing. It gives food a nutty taste. It adds a lot of the vitamin B.s and is good for constipation. Just a suggestion.
