Coming up on 2 days without a cigarette. How is everyone else doing? In addition to giving up cigarettes I am also in recovery for drug abuse. Today is 92 days without herion! God is sooooo good. But I did replace ciggies and drugs with food. Guess I'll go to the weight loss encouragement thread.

I'm so glad to hear you're off the heroin. I lost some really good friends because of that terrible drug.

It's devastating what heroin and other drugs can do. Glad it is behind me.

I wonder if this will help anyone quit:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/12/obama-congratulates-congress-stiff-new-tobacco-regulations/

quote:

It would allow the FDA to reduce how much nicotine is in cigarettes. It would also ban most cigarettes flavoring, excluding menthol.

The legislation also enables the government to dictate how tobacco firms can advertise their product. Store displays can only be printed in black and white. They'll be prohibited from using phrases like "low tar" and "light" to describe their cigarettes.

Found the new rules at the AP:

quote:

_ Creates a tobacco control center within the FDA and gives the FDA authority to regulate the content, marketing and sale of tobacco products to protect public health.

_ Requires tobacco companies and importers to reveal all product ingredients and seek FDA approval for any new tobacco products.

_ Allows the FDA to change tobacco product content to protect the public health.

_ Bans the use of flavors, including candies and fruit flavors, in tobacco products.

_ Aims to prevent sales to minor by requiring direct, face-to-face transactions between retailer and consumers. Limits advertising that could attract young smokers.

_ Strengthens warning labels.

_ Bars the use of expressions such as "light, "mild" or "low" that give the impression that a tobacco product poses less of a health risk.

_ Establishes user fees on tobacco companies to pay for the new regulations.

_ Prevents the FDA from banning nicotine or tobacco products.

It's about time, although I would be much happier if they would just make them illegal.

Well, the air wasn't so fresh when our power went out the other night for 17 hours, but doing good. I'm anxious to get past the first month. This is just one of those things where I have to continue to press in to the other side.

It will help if you eat things that cause the minimum amount of disruption to your blood sugar. Avoid white bread and refined sugars, and aim for things with a low or low-medium GI. Berries are particularly good for this (low GI) and also some fruits, eg apples, pears.

What have you eaten today already?

I had corned beef hash, hash browns and grape juice for breakfast and I am about to make me a chocolate milkshake.

For breakfast? ewww, you Yanks.

What are you using to make the chocolate milkshake? The milk will help you, but if the chocolate part is too sweet, it could give you a swift rise in blood sugar levels then a crash afterwards.

Ewww? What do you eat for breakfast?

Milkshake: 1 cup whole milk, 1 cup french vanilla ice cream, 3 tbsp. chocolate syrup and 3 tbsp. chocolate malt powder, for a whopping 530 calories.

I have an apple and some dried apricots for breakfast, or a banana!

Most of those 530 calories will be down to pure sugar. You will need to watch yourself later as it will cause a rapid rise/sugar rush, from which the only way is down (leaving you particularly vulnerable). It will also, as well as leaving your emotionally vulnerable, likely fuel ravenous hunger once again.

Eww, you Brits.

I drink milkshakes to keep my weight up. I weigh in at 118 and I have 2 more pounds to go. And the milkshakes are sooo good.

You'd honestly do better (IMHO), from a blood sugar and hunger POV, to up your fat rather than your sugar.
