Ben,

You ever have your air conditioning go out in your car during rush hour in the summertime? When that happens, will talk about Houston's weather.

The weather aside, some of my favorite people live in Houston. One of my dearest friends lives in Pearland.

As a matter of fact - Yes the A/C has failed. Not only in the car but the house's A/C went out once too. One drinks a lot of water and sweats a lot.

Yeah, but did it go out in the car during rush hour?

Never mind. I feel for you.

quote:

Now what's to discuss about the weather? My nails are in better shape then yours I'll bet.

Prolly are.

This is Houston. When isn't there a rush hour?

I miss the way houston clears traffic. In Dallas, a fender bender seems to shut down most of the lanes. They really should do things in a way that is more convenient for me....

What I love about Houston traffic is when there is a wreck the police (at least 6 cars of em) will block all lanes in order to have the wrecker lotto for the 20 tow trucks that show up and block all the lanes of traffic making their u-turns after not hitting the right number.

Nothing like being stuck for three hours on the Gulf Freeway in pounding hail and lovebugs just because some guy lost a hubcap and caused a fender bender.

Of course the best people live in Houston. I mean, I'm here.

I'm near Houston, too, though. What does that do to your theory?

Today is San Jacinto Day.

quote:

When Houston's long awaited order to advance was given, the Texans did not hesitate. When within seventy yards the word "fire" was given, the Texan shouts of "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember Goliad" rang along the entire line. Within a short time, 700 Mexicans were slain, with another 730 taken as prisoners. The battle for Texas was won.

You can always move to the country.

BTW, I don't miss the traffic in Dallas either.

I was sooo happy to find this thread. I spent 24.5 WONDERFUL years in Texas. I now live in Pennsylvania, but we're hoping to get back "home" soon - if not sooner! (Are there any other displaced (misplaced?) Texans who currently live in PA????

I went to SHSU (fun times...!) but I mostly lived in the Houston area.

Great. Now I am homesick. (Doesn't take much to make me that way...)

Looks like it's raining everywhere but here. The storms seem to divide and skip San Antonio.

Does anyone else think that the "tax-free" weekend is a joke? I avoid shopping this weekend at all costs. So, for every $100 spent, you save like $8? I guess thats good if you spend hundreds of dollars, but I don't. And the crowds are just insane. WooHooo.....you can go out do dinner after school shopping and spend your savings at McDonalds!

BeckeyZ - I got excited about the tax free thing for about 2 seconds until I realized the same thing you did.

I'm even putting off getting groceries because I don't want to deal with any crowding at Wal Mart.

I'm tellin' ya.....the way people act, you'd think they were saving thousands of $$$ and getting it all handed to them in one lump sum. I just don't get it.

But then, I'm the girl who orders Christmas gifts from Walmart online (even though there is one just a few minutes away). I'm sure my UPS guy thinks I'm nuts.

Since I'm in Texas right now, I got excited about the tax free thing. But I do not want to fight the crowds, and hey, the regular crowds seem like big crowds to me. I'm just not used to this many people anymore -- not when I can go to the gas station, grocery store, and post office in less than 45 minutes back home.

Well, I went grocery shopping with the tax-free crowds. The crowding wasn't too bad except at the registers ... 3 checkers for an entire Super Wal-Mart. I was in line for about 20 minutes (and it would have been more if they hadn't opened up another line).

I spent $68 ... so I guess I saved about $5 (though there was $.54 in tax - I guess the butter dish I got wasn't tax free? he he).

oh well, it beats paying tax on $68.

How is everyone? Our prayers are with all of you down there in Texas!

I'm fine. Nearly a week without power was highly unpleasant (mostly due to my ongoing health problems), but God provided wonderfully. Life is almost back to normal for my family, but isn't anywhere near normal for many of our friends.

I said more over in the prayer request thread. I'm too tired to type more details now, though there are many things I could say about all the ways God blessed my family during this time.
