Well since this thread is not about abortion, my only comment is try and not judge what you cannot see. Meaning Pink, that unless we are in those tough spots, we cannot say what we would or would not do.

What I was trying to say pink, in a hurry, I was not being hateful but in a hurry. Things unpleasent happen in times of war, they always have, rather, I like it, or not my intent was being , which I do not, but they happen. President Bush, is making hard choices, and we have to learn and embrace him while he is still in office. I know I used a poor way of saying this, but, my intent was being in a hurry, not hatefulness.

Yes it is acceptable, and what you have nine more months of him, so learn to like it.

No. No it is NOT acceptable. Show me where Jesus said it was ok to torture a man. Show me where Christ said we were to accept such evil. Show me where our Lord and Saviour said that we had to learn to like it.

Bad things may happen but that's no excuse for torture. It's wrong and there's no reason for it. If it was used then those repsonsible must be tried and held accountable for their actions. I don't deny that there are hard choices in war, but that's no excuse for doing evil.

Lightshineon, not sure what thread you think you are on but this one is specifically for those who are critical of Bush... (I call it the bash Bush thread for short.)

So it should come as no surprise that most of the people on this thread are not going to agree with your assessment of the president.

Repeatedly telling everyone that they need to embrace and/or accept and/or whateversupportivewordyouwanttousehere Bush is really a contradiction to the purpose of the thread.

Ha! Are you kidding?

This thread will keep on spinning long after President McCain takes office and George Bush is given a Presidential pardon.

I'm not bashing the man. I'm saying that if he knew what was being done and gave it tacit approval then he should be held accountable. If laws were broken and he approved then he should be tried for it.

I'd ask the same of anyone in office.

McCain is too smart to pardon His Excellency until his second term is ending.

I think the man has done an awesome job under extrememly stressful circumstances. Nothing Bush could have done would have ever been right for the liberal press we have still foaming at the mouth from loosing 2 elections in a row. If we had not gone to war with Iraq and we were bombed Bush would have been villianized for not doing anything when he had the chance. I for one do believe there were weapons all along and Saddam took them to Syria or another country he was friendly with.

I'm not so naieve to believe that there weren't weapons and that they weren't spirited away to another country.

However that does not, in any way, negate the fact that if torture was used in violation of the law then those responsible must be held accountable. No one is above the law.

They were probably sold on E-Bay along with all of that other high tech sensitive US military equipment.

quote:

WASHINGTON - Stolen and sensitive U.S. military equipment, including fighter jet parts wanted by Iran and nuclear biological protective gear, has been available to the highest bidder on popular Internet sales sites, according to congressional investigators.

Using undercover identities, investigators purchased a dozen defense-related items on the auction site eBay and the online network Craigslist from January 2007 through last month and received the items "no questions asked."

The Defense Department regards much of the stolen equipment to be on the U.S. Munitions List, meaning there are restrictions on their overseas sales, the Government Accountability Office said Thursday.

It is not bashing a president to demand that if he facilitated illegal activities, i.e. torture, that he be held accountable.

It isn't bashing a president to criticize the way he's handled a war we had no business fighting in the first place. (Iraq anyone)

It isn't bashing a president when you have legitimate complaints about how he's handled the economy when we're in the midst of a recession.

If you'd care to explain how it is, without accusations of lying mind you, then I'd be glad to hear it.

The title is Bush Critique, which is not necessarily "bashing". The negative comments are just the natural outgrowth of his lousy performance IMHO.

Ah, but the current title of the thread is "Bush and the rollback of tyranny: a look back"

It's easier to bash a tyrant than to critique one.

A pattern I have noticed on these threads is that when I make a detailed and strongly worded critique of George W. Bush, I seldom if ever get solid posts attempting to refute anything I write. It's always a question of semantics re: bashing vs. critique, "hating Bush," "you don't think Saddam was a bad man," etc.

Anyone who thinks my "look back" at Bush's attempt to roll back tyranny has problems is more than welcome to go to that post and discuss it with me.

It is post 2473.
