I didn't say I was on the stick. I said it felt like a stick was stuck in my head the other night. Didn't get any sleep and by the time the stick got unstuck it was time to go to work, but I called in and slept most of the day away. Even after I got up it still felt bad.

Am better today, at least in the stick stuck in the head department.

I want to ask for prayers for Lynn, and myself too. Christmas is coming up and without family or friends nearby it is going to be a really rough one this year. She isn't looking forward to the Christmas music starting on the Christian radio the day after Thanksgiving, and had to be reminded that even without "Anybody" close this year, that Jesus is there all the time. She didn't sound too convinced though.

Kayla will be in Calif from the 20th through the first week of Jan. so there will be that loss also, even though it will also be a break from the routine.

(((((Ben and Lynn)))))

Having spent time in the Navy, we know what it's like to spend Christmas away from home.

Awwww, Ben. That has to be hard! Even with Britt being full grown, knowing she won't be home for Thanksgiving and maybe not Christmas makes me not look forward to the holidays as much either.

I'll pray for all of you. What you said is true...sometimes the joy has to come from the reason we celebrate and not in the celebration itself. That's hard with all the hype and expectations surrounding the holidays. I pray that God will comfort you both and bring joy through his presence and that He makes the holidays a special time between you and Lynn.

Thank you Ray and Karlie.

And thank you Ray for the sacrifice you made, and that DW made, while in the service of our country. Today seems a good day to remember that.

I agree! Now that I have a daughter in the Navy, I am only now beginning to see what sacrifices families make to serve. Thanks Ray!

Ben, I'm sorry the holidays will be so hard for you guys. I thought there were no visiting rights allowed for Kayla's father. How can a man who's been proven to be abusive be allowed to have the child he's abused for a holiday?

Gee, this sounds familiar to me!

Maggie, he wasn't proven guilty. The charges were dropped based on the non-testimony of a three year old child. (Now you can rail about that stupid Calif law Karlie. Get on up. Here, let me get a step ladder so you can get on that box.) She won't be with him alone either. Becky is going to be there with Kayla most all of the time.

This year is going to be most difficult for Lynn. I can see it now even in the TV commercials. "Get ready for your company this holiday season with a new set of furniture!" It's soooo early.... To be reminded that no one is coming over. Unless y'all remember that you have an open invite!

Thanks Ben...but once I get going, I can't stop! Once I get my degree and get working with abused kids, I plan on sitting on some committe that can get some of those stupid insane things changed! Whoever decided a child should have to be in the same room with their abuser, let alone have to look at them face to face in order for their testimony to be heard, was a moron double-wrapped in idiot! Grrrrr!! Okay, deep breaths....

Had snow down south of here last year! Even if it melts you can still do the angel thing in the sand on the beach.

Ben, I agree your Christmas will "feel" and be different. (((((Ben & Lynn))))) And you have my prayers. Have you both considered other ways you could divert some of the loneliness? Something you could do as a couple?

Could you and Lynn maybe check out through your church or other community groups where you could possibly serve in helping in an organization that helps other families, or check out nursing homes for residents who have no visitors from friends or family? I know finances are not great right now for you and doing some of the outreach things can cost nothing but your time, or presence (as in visiting) which can mean more than anything you could bring of a material nature.

These are just thought's on my part. I should follow through on some of those ideas myself. Anyway, I know the year that we (Jeff, Josh and I) drove to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee Christmas Eve to spend some time with our neighbors whose son (6yrs old) was there battling cancer, and their expressing how much that meant to them and to their son, I remember feeling on the ride home that that is really what it's all about...isn't it? We then proceeded to my mom's where everything was going on in the "usual way" of Christmas Eves for our family and it wasn't quite the same for me that night.
That was the last Christmas for Larry. He died that following Mother's Day.

What keeps me from doing some of those things more often is that my emotions so easily get the best of me. But since I have been in SM I have grown some in that area Just typing this out, I think I am going to talk to our pastor and see if there is someone he knows of who is truly alone this Christmas.

Okay, I've been comtemplative enough for tonight. Sorry. It's quiet and late.
Just know I am praying for you and believe me, if I could swing it, I'd pack up Josh and Anoush too and we'd show up on your doorstep.

~~~~~~
And I join in on the THANK YOUs to Ray and your family for your service and sacrifice, and to Karlie and Britt, and all our troops and their families and all those who have gone before.
((((((((Ben and Lynn)))))))) I know what it's like to have holidays without part of your family. Every other one, Nick is with his mother. Nothing is the same without him. We have to really work at celebrating for the two kids we DO have every holiday.
Maybe you could find another couple or small family who will otherwise be alone? I know it's not the same, but it'd be something to look forward to. And imagine the blessing you could be to someone else!
Ben, I know what it's like to be away from family for Christmas. Yes, I have John and Joan, but my family are in another country. Even when I lived there, they didn't want to do anything with me for Christmas. It's not easy.
I wish you lived closer. I'd invite y'all over to our home to spend Christmas with us. You'd be more than welcome.
Well, as usual y'all bring a smile to my face!
I'll think about that Sharon, I was wondering how/if there was some way to get away from the focus on ourselves and be with someone who might be in the same or similar predicament (sp?) as us.
Evan just surprised me! He gave me $5 to put in the offering box at church tomorrow. Said he won some money from a lotto ticket and wanted to share it. Need to get him involved in doing something with us at Christmas...
