Looks like I missed the coffee...

Shallbe, I'm celebrating by spending some time in the pool talking doctrine with my brother--one of my favorite ways to pass the time.

Hi, Reba! By the way, it's Ms. Monkey. God's making me wait--perhaps forever--for the 'Mrs.' experience. A good practice for me in patience and trust.

you're very welcome!

let us know what you think...

Hello, doink!

So far, here's what I think. Driscoll doesn't seem like an emergent type, which was actually my initial concern. While some of his word choices definitely wouldn't be found in something by Edwards or Turretin, he does get straight to the heart of the matter--and that's a good thing these days.

Thanks again!

...and trust and trust and trust...

I just installed a brand new book to my Libronix library: Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology! Now I know where to go when no one will talk theology with me.

Yum!

Shema, mind if I join you two in the pool?

Reba; My name on here used to be besiderself, just fyi. But at one time I needed to change that for good reason, so I looked up my favorite chapter of the Bible and found my new name:

Jeremiah 31:4 (NKJV)
4 Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! You shall again be adorned with your tambourines, And shall go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.

This has a lot of significance for me, as part of the reason I needed to change my name was because I made a mistake that hurt an important relationship: also, I am a widow and have been for 10 years--God watched over me then to tear down and I believe He will watch over me to build up again (not necessarily bring me another husband, though that is my prayer).

So that is the story.

I'm not quite sure I understand your last couple of sentences in the post above, but hey...let's all gather at Reba's hot tub and she can explain it to us all!

Reba, instead of thinking that you're putting your foot in your mouth, why not view it as we're getting to know each other. :) I haven't taken any of it personally. Your hot tub offer sounds wonderful, but there's no chance of the pool getting too cold here in Texas!

Shallbe, you're always welcome to join us. It might be more educational to spend time with Grudem, though. :) Please keep us posted on your thoughts about it.

I am reading about the life of William Tindale...and I am just blown away by his life and the way and reasons for his death. He advocated the bible to be printed in English so people could read it for themselves. It is also rumored that his time in Germany might have been spent with Martin Luther.

and we whine about reading the bible and this guy was martyred trying to get it put into English...

how deep are our guts? How can say I would die for Christ when it is sometimes had to live for Him...

A daily blessing? How about a thread wherein a wise woman reminds us to remember our daily blessings?

Also, Doink's reminder was a good one. Thank you!

ms monkey it took a couple reads.... Hey thanks

Today is July 4th....

I am truly sadden to see the way my country is headed..... BUT i am so very thankful God chose to place me here in the USA! What a blessing! When compared to other counties i read about i have been blessed to be a citizen of the USA. I will do my utmost to be a citizen pleasing to God. He has He reasons for each of us being physically where we are. I pray that today, at this time, I can honor Him and His placement of me in once great land. One day may she be the beacon on the hill again

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Why would he care if we remembered his birthday? Please don't tell me cause it would be idolatry or something JWish.

Since he's a historical figure, his birthdate is remembered just like anyone else who impacted history.

It's not like we have a party of anything...well, at least not this year.

He asked to be buried in an unmarked grave. Yes, he knew he was popular and he didn't want to be given undue attention. He didn't say we cannot celebrate birthdays, but he did discourage excessive celebration (link).

Do you guys discuss Covenant Theo. in here? Dh and I have started attending an Orthodox Presbyterian church and are just eating up the teachings. We've been starving for awhile and I think this is where we are going plant ourselves for awhile, if God wills. Any good books to read? So much to learn. I love how we read sections of the Westminster Shorter Catechism(sp?). Is this a safe place to ask questions?

I'm so thankful God led us to this church It's so wonderful to hear His Word taught with authority and the OT read. So many churhes we've to over the years never referred back to the OT. I can understand it better when bother are use. I think you can see the whole picture. I'll be sticking my nose in here often.

There is a really good video series called Amazing Grace: The History and Theology of Calvinism. It is excellent!!!! There is a workbook that goes with it. The video moves pretty fast, but we so enjoyed it!

You can get it at Monergism. On the far right of the web page is a resource link for books, etc. This is a great website.

Do you guys do Sunday night church? Growing up AG we always went to Sunday night service in fact it seemed like we lived at church most of the week, anyway.... dh has been studying "keeping the Sabbath holy" and since our new church has Sunday service we will be going when we can.

My church still does Sunday evening services. Being in the church orchestra (rehearsals & coming early to get ready for service), I'm at church sometimes 6.5 hours on Sunday. That hardly seems like a day of rest.

Nah...we don't do Sunday night. We have Wednesday as missional community and Sunday mornings as celebration.

When we attended a PCA church, Sunday evening was their small group time and they didn't have "services" on Wednesdays.
