Well, I've been fully back into the biking again since early May, averaging over 200 miles per week. Last weekend, for the first time in quite a while, I put my mountain bike in the car and drove to some nice single track in the national forest. It was a wonderful, refreshing change from the road bike. If you've been neglecting the dirt, do yourself a favor and get out there once in a while.

I like riding a bike down a hill and going free-fall if you will. 
I do not know too much about bike maintenance at all, so a flat tire could be a big disadvantage.
I do not like riding up hills, it really exercises both the leg and lower back muscles and could aggravate your back if it is weak.
When I ride, I tend to go for small treks and then reward myself at the destination that I have cycled to and then ride back afterwords.

Hi Humbleinspirit! My husband and I always laugh that we find ourselves biking for ice cream. But it is still better than driving for ice cream. Try to find an ice cream shop that is a challenge to get to. We are taking off in an hour or so on a ride. We were out this morning then we came home to rest up, walk the dog and escape the heat. mY hubby is going to help me find a safe route to my job so I can participate in bike to work day.

Hi 42servehymn, the only thing here is riding in traffic can be cumbersome. My area isn't a very bike friendly city per say at all.

I have encountered a number of snakes on the bike path. They tend to lay on the path after sundown to warm themselves. I am unfamiliar with a whip snake but I can tell you from experience that garter and bull snakes can slither away after being run over. toads however are another story. Hubby and I went out biking last weekend and saw tons of smashed toads. EWWWW! I'm glad you are liking your new bike!

Well, I've seen quite a few nice rat snakes and king snakes on the trail so far this spring, but today saw my first poisonous snake of the year--just a copperhead.

Tomorrow is bike to work day! Here in Denver it is a big deal. There will be stations set up around town with refreshments and things. I will be biking as I am sure many others will.

I had a great day biking to work yesterday. My job is a 6.5 mile ride and there are some wicked hills to get there. If you look a few pages back you will see that I HATE hills. I am working on it though. There are certainly enough hills here to practice on! I was pleased that I didn't do any walking on those hills. I even got back on the bike after getting home and biked 3 miles to meet hubby after work. On the way home from hubby's job it started to lightening a bit. Hubby is a little nervous about lightening since his close encounter last year. So we took cover under a bridge for a bit. Then I finally convinced him to brave it. We weren't home long when it really started pouring and the lightening was spectacular. It was a dramatic end to the day for sure.

I think that planning a bike trip and missing your exit is a forgivable sin but I guess it depends on if your boss likes to bike. We have a wonderful little book of all the bike trails in the Denver area. We have over 300 miles of trails of all levels of difficulties. That is how we plan our bike ventures. I think that at some point this Summer we will plan a 35-40 mile trek. That is more than we have done so far so it will be a challenge for us but I think we are up for it!

I told my boss at my old job that if I was ever late I would probably be dead because I am rarely late. I decided to ride my bike to work on a day that I thought the roads would be passable but in fact they were not. It was early Spring after the brutal Winter blizzards of 2006 here in Denver. I was tired of waiting. My boss did indeed call me because I was late to work (my only time). I ended up being about 5 minutes late. Considering what I had gone through to get there that day 5 minutes was nothing.

), it can be downright hairy 'round these parts. But I've been bike commuting so long now that I can't imagine giving it up. 
Anyway, I decided never to have Starbucks unless I biked to get it--about four miles round trip. Eventually I lost interest in Starbucks. ha ha Now if I have to have it, I make it at home. 
), I was thinking about which route to take on my next bike ride. I ended up missing an exit I needed to take and was a few minutes late to work...
