Hi, First of all, I am not hinting that I think other things should come before God or God should get leftovers by this title!!! I am working close to 60 hours a week (single female) because I have some debt I am trying to pay off. Friday night worship at my normal church was cancelled, so I went to a saturday Messianic church to get my church in for the week. Although it is not my home church, I am wondering if it is wrong for me to stay home from my home church today because I work 11-6 (I don[t work Saturdays and that is the day I devote to the Lord anyways). I thought the Lord wanted me to go to church this morning, but sometimes I wonder if perhaps a "religious spirit" is wanting me to go (I don't think its wrong to go, just wondering if I "Must" go this morning.) What are your thoughts. I know Jesus rested, but how do you dicern when too much is on your plate or if the enemy is using the tired card as an excuse to keep you out of fellowship.

There are many ways to worship God. Going to church on Sundays is just one way. Going to church on sunday enables you to be around other people to gather strength and encouragement from them and them from you. God might be wanting to tell you something important in the message that the pastor is giving. Lots of people talk about how going to church on Sundays fills up there energy tanks so they can have strength to last all week. Maybe you could go every other week, once a month. I would pray about it and then decide.

Great topic and question. If Saturday is the Sabbath in your heart, then you're fulfilling the commandment. However, if you don't feel "connected" to the Saturday fellowship you're attending now perhaps God is nudging you back to the church family you know and love. Yes, we can feel compelled to go Sunday morning for the wrong reasons, but there surely are a lot of right reasons to go too. Believe me, I understand where you're coming from, but I have to ask--If your earthly boss required just two more hours of devotion from you each week, would you find a way to please him? Besides sleeping, what do you do with the first two and a half hours of every Sunday that might otherwise be spent getting ready for and going to church service?

SonInMe1, she was pretty specific that it was work related. splost, I grew up where we never missed a service. I have spent all of my adult life with the guilt that if I missed church for any reason but sickness, I was displeasing God. I cannot tell you the number of times that I went with the wrong spirit because I was totally exhausted mentally and physically. I believe that everyone needs to attend church and it needs to be in a way that is right for you. There was an old lady in my church that got recognition for never missing a service for umpteen number of years. For all I know, she may wind up in hell.

Amen Walker. Attending once a week is even ok. Church is important for growth and to be with other Christians but it should never be something that we feel obligated to do. The Psalmist said "I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord." Not "oh no, another Sunday or Wed. where I have to be in church or else. "

One Sunday morning several years ago I woke up on a Sunday morning and didn't feel like going to Church. I told myself, "everything is alright at the moment, no crises. I don't need to go", or something to that affect. God instantly brought to rememberence the story of the 10 lepers who had been cleansed. Only one of them came back to thank and praise him. I got my butt out of bed and went to Church. I just looked it up. Read the account in Luke 17:11-19 and see if your heart is not pierced by Jesus's words. "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?"

While I love going to church,me and my family have stayed home a couple times when we were too tired to go.I don't think it's wrong to stay home every once in a while as long as you don't make a habit of it.

I find that church refreshes my spirit when I'm exhausted. However, there are times when a body needs physcial sleep. My husband used to work third shift, and there were times when I would insist he skip church and sleep because he was so physically exhausted. On the other hand, if it's more of a mental or emotional tiredness and not just lack of sleep, I believe it's important to go to church and let Jesus "lead us beside the still waters" so he can restore our souls. Of course, that doesn't always have to happen at church, but it's a good place to go. In that case, to me that's like saying, "I'm too hungry to go out to eat."

or if your in the hospital or home with your legs in a cast, but if your tired, thats also your body being down, so it is ok to rest. Just read the bible or sing praises to God and have church all by yourself. and thats why we have christian TV - for the shut ins. the churches often pray for the shut ins. that woudl be you.

Keep going for it, sweety. I think you are doing awesome

SonInMe1, she was pretty specific that it was work related. Twas an attempt at humor. Don't expect christians to be out at clubs.... I work nights. I attend a small group bible study that meets before the first service on Sunday at 7:30 am. The first service is a traditional service with choir and hymns. The second service is the most attended and we are encouraged not to attend so new people can come and there is room for them. So I go either on Saturday night...which means I usually have two or three hours sleep...or I go to the 11:15 service which translates to my timeclock as going to church as 11:15 pm. Working third shift means you don't get much sleep. Its part of the deal I think....and I certainly understand exhaustion. I had to stop going to midweek services because it was just too hard doing it with a couple hours sleep and then going to work.

I worked last Sat morning and went to a church dinner on Sat night. As we were leaving everybody was saying "See you tomorrow." As I bid goodnight to the pastor I told him that I would be at home the next day doing maintenance on the vehicle that I can't do during the week because of a second job I work. I had no guilt or apprehension telling Pastor I wouldn't be there. Maintaining the car or the body, it's all the same.

I don't ever get to go to church because I'm disabled and live alone. I don't drive much at all because of the meds that I take. My home church is 50 miles away and I don't feel like attempting to find a church that I enjoy that is closer to home. It's too hard to visit a strange church when you are alone. I asked a friend to go to the concert with me Saturday night in Sevierville. I had to sleep all day Sunday (no exaggeration) to recover. I may never be able to go to church. I get totally exhausted just getting dressed up and I have to lay down. Even making my bed wears me out. I don't think God will hold it against me for not going to church. I watch a lot of Christian TV shows and have over 100 Gospel concert videos and DVDs. Plus I read my Bible and great books by Christian authors. That's the best that I can do.

alonebutnotalone - oh praise God for you! What you said about your disability I knew two people that had the same. I know how hard it is even just to get up and move around, and some people do not understand it at all. As I said above, thats why we have prayer for the shutins and thats why Christian TV is there!! For a few months Christian TV was my only church and it kept me hangin in there. Just do what you can and not worry about anyone else.

There is a website that I love. It has 1,000s of sermons for free downloading. Great messages from the last century and even print messages that are older. It is: http://www.sermonindex.net/ You can just listen online or you can download and burn them to CDs using Windows Media Player, it will convert them from MP3 to WAV so you can then listen to them offline, or you can just DL and listen offline using the computer... The number one download is a sermon by Paris Reidhead and is really good. Today I listened to part one of Keith Green's message "deny yourself". I can see why God took Keith home early, he was wise beyond his years. You can find much there to help you stay built up spiritually. Again, bless you! Julien

There are times when my panic attacks or my depression is so bad that I can't go to church. I try hard to go on those days, however, if I don't make it, I've learned not to beat myself up for it. The Lord understands our humanness. You can devote a day to Him without being in church. I wouldn't make a habit of staying home because you're tired, but I don't think taking an occassional Sunday (or Saturday) away from church is a bad thing. Look at all the folks who go on vacation and don't go to on those Sundays.
