Kathryn - I just love, love, love, your picture. What an adorable baby boy you have! I am not only considering a tubal because my husband hates anything to do with doctors, but more for the fact that we have already met my deductible for the year and it would be free - whereas we would have to pay his $2000 deductible for a VS. My friend recently had one and it is not major surgery anymore - in, out, she was home that afternoon and up and about the next day.

We have 5 kids, and I have been thinking seriously about permanent BC. (Well, I should say, we have.) I mentioned it to my mom once, and she made the comment that many people never get over wanting another baby. (you know, they are cute and all ) However, she said that people who have had the surgery get over the baby bug faster because they know it's out of the question; instead of like her one friend that ended up pregnant at 42 because, in her words - "she saw a cute baby in a moment of weakness."

Thanks! I think he's pretty cute myself.

Oh my! I'm turning 30 on tuesday, I know a lot of women who have babies in their 30's and a few in their 40's, but I am just filled with dread thinking about being pregnant.

Maybe I just need to talk to a dr. Someone who does the surgery and get more information. KWIM?

It can't hurt!

As for our situation, I'm thinking we are gonna go with the depo shot. Since breastfeeding is not going as smoothly as we would have liked, I'm nervous about the mini-pill.

How soon are you thinking of having this, Sharon?

I understand that if you're breastfeeding, you need to wait 6 weeks before having the injection.
And that for anyone having the jab, it's recommended to use condoms (or not have sex) for the first 14 days afterwards, as it can take a while to become active.

Oh...I won't get it until my 6 week appointment which is December 7th I think.

Odd, yesterday I had some pain on my right side. It REALLY felt like the ovulation pains I used to get. So, I took one of my left over ovulation prediction tests and it was negative. I'm just really nervous I guess about getting pregnant again. However, since we are waiting the 6 weeks after birth to resume relations, I don't have anything to worry about for a few more weeks.

We never waited 6 weeks. But, then again, I'm a rebel.

We actually waited longer for intercourse. It wasn't comfortable at all.

When you've had a C-section, as Sharon has, it's definitely wise to wait at least 6 weeks, and even then you need to be careful.

Well, Ray is a by the books kinda guy...so we wait until the doc gives us the go ahead. At this point though, we are both counting down days until that 6 week appointment!

LOL...

I just wish the whole contraceptive decision was an easier one. Perhaps we should invent an on and off switch for our fertility????

Believe me, I sooooooo wish one existed. I have a 0% desire to have a baby at the moment, so I would love to go to "off" and not have to worry about it!

Oh that would be so nice. We could resort to old fashioned methods. Onions in our hoo-hahs. Of course maybe that's not a contraceptive. Maybe it's a turn off.

An onion in my who-ha. Not so sure about that In fact I have never heard of that.

Perhaps I just need to stop stressing about all of this and just buy some condoms. It is only a short period that we will be NTTC, so I don't know it is worth it to throw my already nutso body into more of a hormonal crisis.

There's quite a variety of condoms available eg different sizes, different textures, so if you don't get along with one, there's others to try. And IMO it's so nice and clean for the woman.

As well as it not messing with your hormones.

Manda is right. I bought some online. Nice company. They had a variety pack. I think it was 100 in that pack. Um, we're set for a while. I can't help it, I love a great deal! Plus it's a different one everytime.

I work at a school and took someone to the health center (jr college) and I was laughing at all the condoms that they were giving away. There was like 10 different brands. I was tempted to take some.

I recommend the SKYN brand - you can get them at Walmart. That was our method before TTC. I had issues with irritation down there and had to switch to non-latex. These were very nice.

Yes, SKYN are very nice, there are, however, ones that are thinner than that. We had to buy ours online.

Kimono brand is our favorite, gotta order them online, though.
