Yay, Darcy & Karlie!

I hope everyone has a great semester. My one class requires 5 books with a total of $80. Two are textbooks, the others are novels. I'm thinking I might wait until I get the syllabus and buy them as I need them.

Class starts on Thursday. I'm looking forward to seeing what English Lit holds.

I should have my funds disbursed from the university on Wednesday, then Thursday I'm in class. Oh, and I'll probably have to buy my books that day.

And joy of joys, I just picked up a review book so I can study for the GRE. My first try at it will be this spring, with a retake in the fall if I don't like my score. Which is a given, I'm sure. Math isn't my strong suit.

I start back to class a week from today. I already have my books and am actually ready to go. I'll be ready for the end of the semester a week in, though, I am sure!!!LOL

My only fear is the biology class. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be worried about this semester at all. I have no idea what to expect from it.

It's a "concept" class, designed for non-science majors. But it's all day: lecture in the morning, lab in the afternoon. I don't know how they can structure a class that way and not give tons of homework. THAT'S my main fear, that there will be tons of homework.

And in all actuality, I should have plenty of time to handle any homework they hand out because I only have two classes at the other school and lots of downtime in between them: I'll easily be able to complete all homework on campus, with very little necessary at home.

I guess it's just the fear of the unknown.

Well, SOME good news anyway: my funds are in my account, so I can go get my books. And my horticulture (don't ask, it's kind of weird) instructor e-mailed us to say that we don't NEED the book, as long as we make class and take notes, since she doesn't test from the book.

Now if it would stop raining.

Good for you, Darcy! One less book to buy is always a good thing. I actually did pretty good getting my textbooks used off of half.com. God just knew my computer was about to die a slow painful death. I can now use my Pell money on a computer instead of overpriced PAPERBACK textbooks......

greetings and peace,
I guess I better talk while I can. My school semester starts back next week, but praise God I am almost done. After this semester with 3 classes. I have 3 classes to go for next fall and I am finished! whoo hoo. I have always worked full-time with a child and it has not been easy. I went back in 2005 at 38 yrs old. I will be 42 in March and it had been 20 yrs since school when I enrolled. It has definitely been a journey. God has truly been my wheel in the middle of the wheel.
I became a scholar in 2007 so I don't have to pay for books or classes. Got lucky! I go to a community college which transfers credits to 4-year colleges/universities. Boy, I wish I knew about the cheap books you guys have been getting my first 2 yrs though! Would've saved me a ton of money.

Last semester was a tough one. I had to take Financial Accounting, uggh! There were no tutors so it was just me and a lot of praying. I passed with a 'C'. Barely, but hey I passed right? This semester, one of my classes is Economics. Has anyone taken that? Is it a lot of homework?

God bless,

Hi, Poetess! No, don't know much about economics, I'm grateful I have managed to avoid classes like that. I'm a psych major. (yeah, yeah, I'm taking intro to horticulture, but I only needed one more science class, and that's what was available, LOL!)

Hey, Jeannie! Got all my books, and since I didn't need the hort. book, I got off at about $250. I'm grateful. That one book, used, would have cost me $78.

For the program I'm applying for, I have to be accepted at two schools at the SAME TIME. One requires the GRE. The other, well, there's a pretty rigorous amount of writing and interviewing. Sigh......got to talk to my pastor about that part of the process, I need to start working on my candidacy requirements.

The GRE for my program is currently being waived for students who have a 3.8 or higher and apply within one year of graduation. They may re-instate it next fall for everyone. I'm just praying I get accepted this time around and won't have to worry about it.

Note to self: look for program that waives GRE with high GPA and quick re-entry...

Poetess, I haven't taken economics, but I have worked for an economics department in a small college. It really depends on the professor. Some professors go straight from the textbook, others have some additional readings from journals and such. The biggest issue is learning terms and how to apply them to real-life economics.

Lets agree that while differences does exist.......there are lots of similarities as well. But thats beside the point.

Man, my textbooks are expensive this time round. I have a single class that demands FOUR different textbooks. The scary thing is, I had this professor last semester, when we asked for three different textbooks, and he actually made it all the way through all of them. Our final exam was two questions regarding fifteen hundred pages of material!

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Wow. All of my classes look like they are going to be good, this time. And one of them is going to be video conferenced with two other universities! So COOL! But I guess India is a hot topic at the moment, even on college campuses.

Wow, what a week I just had!!

In my program, we're required to have a few of our classes in the classroom (as opposed to being online), and they call them intensives. My second intensive was this week and it felt so good to be back in the classroom and see some familiar faces. I was able to room with the same gal as last time and we had a blast, so I'm hoping and praying I get to do that again in the Summer. Here's the problem:

Since this class is Group Process and there are four tests and one paper due in the four weeks after the class, I dropped the Individual Appraisal class that starts this Monday so I could focus on that and take a little break and work on some of my issues. Well, I get to class and am mapping out the rest of my program (I'm almost half-way through.. woohoo!!) when I discover that my roommate will be taking the 667 class in the Summer. That means I had to rearrange my schedule for this semester. Problem is, the registration deadline passed on Monday, so I have to ask for permission to get into that class. If I don't, that puts me behind everyone else!

The other thing is that one of the instructors said that I'm a good counselor, that I would make a good Ph.D. candidate, and that I should consider teaching. That was very encouraging, so now I'm looking into the requirements. I hope it doesn't require the GRE!! (Just checked... it does! )

Now that I'm halfway through the program, I'm really feeling the desire to change jobs into something a little closer to what I'm studying. My current job is more geared towards social work and I'd rather have something that's more counseling. Not sure if there's anything available that pays well, but I may start looking. There's also a part of me that wants to work for the school, though that would mean a huge move for me.

School starts in the morning for me. God willing only two regular semesters and a summer semester until I finish.

I am challenging the Diction II class, but it's a piece of cake because the exam is open book/open dictionary. No sweat.

I will take the American Government CLEP on Friday or as soon as possible thereafter. If that falls through, then things might not work out to graduate in Dec.

Hope you are all doing well in your studies!

I know when I got my undergraduate degree my books ran me 300-500 a semester. I have been out for a few years and now I'm thinking of going back to school to change careers. I don't really like what I'm doing. I am thinking of doing something in the medical field, maybe Physical therapy or physical therapy assistant.

I passed the CLEP...but just barely. By 3 points. That was enough, though...

I'm just an over achiever and having only a 3 point lead is humbling.

Still, I passed it. And the diction tests have been turned in. I have no worries about passing those.

So the next thing is to face the biology course, which is at a different school. Not only will it take up all days on Saturday, but it's in a different direction from home, and I don't know the school very well. Oh, well. I've faced things before. I'll face this one. It starts next Saturday.

Look at the biology course as your next adventure! You'll look back on all this and smile at all that you accomplished!! You graduate in December, right?

Providing everything from here on out falls into place. The two french courses are what I'm most worried about. According to the schedule the school has posted, I will be able to do it. After this semester I only have to perform my recital and complete a "capstone" course (I have no idea...got a question out to the professor to find out) at my main institution. the french courses will be at the institution where I'm taking biology, though they may be at different campuses.

Thanks for being proud of me.

good luck with that. I've run into a snag. I had to go from full-time to part-time and re do my financial aid, and then had to take sic credits. I had six, but the choir instructor threw me out of his class because I can't sing. so now I have to look for a class that has only one credit.
