I only wear a jacket no matter how cold it is, I never feel cold. I actually had a lady at church stopped me outside telling me what a bad example I am for my children because I don't wear a proper coat. [sm=angertalk.gif][sm=aside.gif]

Ohhh, I would have popped off something to her like, I am walking on faith here lady![:)]

Some days I really have to watch my mouth.

How many times do I have to tell you ladies that they are not "hot flashes" they are POWER SURGES!

And Heaven help anyone who gets in our way when we're having one!

just kidding!!

My husband lovingly refers to them as "my private summers."

I set the a/c in my home at a very comfortable 72 degrees in the summer and if the heat comes on, it's 68 in the winter.

He uses his electric blanket year round. The big baby [:D][8|]

as to the Endometrial ablation I'm not really sure what the point is other than getting rid of the period. I mean wouldn't we still have hot flashes and all the other stuff? From what was said about it I don't see it as a cure for menopause.

The person I know who had it was bleeding for days, would stop for a few (maybe 10 days, if she was lucky) and then would start bleeding again. This went on for months - her dr recommended it to her to ease her pain and provide her comfort.

For something like that I can see how it would be of great benefit.

doinkdom -> RE: Peri-Menopause and Menopause Support (9/11/2007 1:59:52 PM)

Is menopause a disease?[&:]

I thought it was the natural process our bodies go through as we age beyond the child bearing years.

I understand some women have complications and systemic problems, but to call it a disease?

hmmm...just never thought of it that way before.

Is it contagious?[8D]

jodavi -> RE: Peri-Menopause and Menopause Support (9/11/2007 2:31:10 PM)

Thank goodness I found this thread. I'm 43 and went straight menopausal when I had hysterectomy last year. I have not had hot flushes but the mood swings could be bad at times. To be menopausal and having a preteen ...we're always clashing. dh has been our mediator most of the times.
Dry skin-- I've always had dry skin but since my surgery it has been really bad. My ob/gyn mentioned that it's a part of it since my ovaries were also removed. She suggested Aveeno but that's not even helping-- any suggestions? Is there some vitamins I could take for my skin to at least not be this dry?

I was severely anemic. Why?

For over three years, I had excessively heavy and long periods of bleeding. (10 to 20 days, with clots...) Followed by 35 to 40 days of nothing, except cramps.

But then I started bleeding two days before Thanksgiving '06......

The bleeding stopped the day of the procedure: January 26, 2007.

Thankfully, no menses.......no pain and especially no WHOOSHES of blood and clots.

I'm so thankful that the surgery helped. [:)]

A vitamin E supplement daily.

Only warm to tepid showering. Followed by creamy baby oil on damp skin. (It absorbs fully......not leaving you a sweat slick in the hot flashes)

Drink LOTS of water.

I apply petroleum jelly to problem areas. And also a regular hand lotion.

Some of these help me.

That really works.
Another thing-- make sure you don't towel totally dry, I find if I blot dry and then allow to air dry the rest of the way my skin isn't as dry and flaky.

Landabee,
Wow, I can't imagine going through that.
I am glad the surgery helped too.

My kids use a lotion that helps them, when I go upstairs I'll see what it is. The dermatologist recommended it and it's helped them tremendously.

Yes...let me know. I'm not really looking forward Winter this year because of the dryness in my skin.

Memaw. -> RE: Peri-Menopause and Menopause Support (9/11/2007 11:58:57 PM)

Jodavi,
Do you have thyroid problems?
I don't have one and my skin gets horribly dry as a side effect.

It actually runs in the family but it's gotten worst since my surgery and ob/gyn asked if they removed my ovaries and she mentioned that it's one of the effects. I could see my derma but he prescribes creams that insurance would not cover and way too expensive so right now I'm just taking all kinds of creams and moisturizers. My Mom's bestfriend did not have dry skin but when she had the same surgery as mine and went straight to menopausal -- she had the same problem as well.

Julie1955 -> RE: Peri-Menopause and Menopause Support (9/12/2007 12:56:36 PM)

I have been peri-menopausal for about the last 10 years, and in the last 2-1/2 years it's been really difficult. I've been experiencing all of the symptoms listed, except that I think I skipped ever having a libido. [sm=funny.gif] At my age, I honestly can't wait for my periods to stop completely. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.

Julie

This is really embarassing and it's only because I trust you ladies so much that I'm asking.....does anyone else experience a vibration in their pelvic area. It feels like I put my phone on vibrate and stuck it in my underwear. It's right in front. And it only last a few seconds. It's extremely random, doesn't matter what I'm doing or if I'm sitting, standing, etc. It's not pleasurable, it's really annoying. I was afraid to look it up on the computer because I was afraid of what would come up on my screen if I searched for "pelvic vibrations."

Memaw. -> RE: Peri-Menopause and Menopause Support (9/12/2007 3:06:46 PM)

Myckey,
Does it feel somewhat like a "nervous twitch" or a "tic"?
I get those in my eye and in my hands, but I would imagine they could happen anywhere.
(Or it could be gas.[8|])

PS I don't blame you for not wanting to google "pelvic vibrations".[8D]

I am so glad to see this train filling up!!!
Welcome ladies!

Yes. I have actually felt that. Almost like a twitchy pinched nerve or something. I like your description of it.
