One thing I'm not thrilled w/ lately is this on again off again spots 4-5 days before my period. Not, that I don't have fair warning because I do have to take Midol at least once a week before. But, the problem is knowing is it really starting or not & when do I stop the progesterone? This is all so unpleasant as now that I've been on natural progesterone for over a year, the periods get closer & closer together (in between 2 1/2 & 3 weeks). So, the pads always have to stay available & proper size depending on what's going on.
One question, anybody been so desperate for good coverage that they've bought Depends? I don't know if they are even thick enough, but it beats destroying my panties! kd

Have you tried the overnight pads? They are pretty thick and they are longer too.

Kim,
Astroglide comes in a version that is glycerin and paraben free
From a website that sells it "This NEW formula is the perfect choice for anyone with chemical sensitivities, and those who experience burning and irritation from traditional lubricants containing parabens and glycerin. Water based, colorless and water-soluble."
Another lubricant that is hypoallergenic is Pink. It is sold at the Drugstore.com website.
For better coverage, I use a super plus or ultra tampon (OB brand) with a pad that has wings. The wings (part of the pad that wraps around the sides of your panties) help keep leakage from being noticable and lasts longer.

I would be on the alert side......waiting for it to start. I went 7 weeks once last year, thought YAY!!! that's it, I'm done.....NOT!!!

OK, I have a week and a half to go before I should start and my breasts HURT!!! Plus they feel huge and heavy(which normally they are not even close to being). Here comes the PMS. Yay.

I can't wear tampons. Even when I could, I didn't find that they helped any really.
I understand the thoughts about Depends. I've considered something like that. There's nothing just "freshening up" and thinking everything is fine- then swoosh!
It's really irritating when that happens at work because my co-workers just don't understand that I may have just gone to the restroom 5 minutes earlier and now I have to go again.

I'm in my early 40's and have had some problems with irregular periods for a few years. However, after having a D&C done a few years ago, I was prescribed medication, which stopped my periods until last year, when I quit taking it on my own due to concerns about developing breast cancer. I've had a few heavy periods since then, but the last one this year was so bad that I went to the ER thinking I was hemorraging to death. I was using 8 or more pads before I went and it got worse after I got home. All they told me after checking my bloodwork was that my blood count was okay and that what I was experiencing was "normal" for my age.  My mother had told me the same thing, but even she was concerned about the amount of blood.
I also get weight gain, carb cravings and irritable. Now I feel so OLD, with this problem, prescription for bifocals and shortened height, among other problems.

MeMaw I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but I have gone like 3 or 4 months without a period then get one, also they've been really light then next time I get a period, it'll be really heavy again. Needless to say I always have napkins & tampons on hand. My doctor just grinned at me & said well you know you aren't completely through, you won't be until you completely stop having a period. Duh now tell me something I don't know like when will they stop?

Heavier and it was just a different consistency. thicker, darker, and lots of clots. Usually I feel it when it starts but this time I didn't, I think because it was just so thick. (i'm trying to be delicate)

Was it hormone replacement? I told larry I just do not want to do that but he seems to think it would be benificial. I understand it just sort of prolongs menopause but I don't know. I just do not like the idea of artificial hormones in my body, messing it up.

Well now, that's just the info I wanted to hear! 
For the past several months (almost a year now), they go from being light one month then heavy the next, had 2 in one month, but during that time I had 2 daughters move out, 1 daughter move in, 1 daughter gone for the summer...so I just thought I was getting messed up by all the girl hormones in this house!
Tonight I am feeling a bit "crampy" but I don't know if it's because I helped my daughter rearrange her living room furniture today or what.
I wish I would start just because the wondering when or if I am going to is driving me batty.

The main thing for wearing Depends or Poise is I'm tired of trashing up every pair of underwear I have. I still wash them out in cold water first, but they just don't come as clean as they did when I was younger. I'd have to trash them all in a few months & buy new ones. So, I buy the cheap Hanes brand, not really nice ones.
I like the the idea of overlapping two. The long pads are not long enough. And the longer they are, the less thick they are. It's really getting ridiculous isn't it. But, I think it's all about the medical industry & they just want us to get it all taken out. Big bucks in that areas, I'm sure! k

Glad I could be of help. I have to agree though I haven't found a napkin I like that well, I wonder if they do it on purpose so we will have to buy more. I'll have to try the 2 together sometime to see if that works. I usually had been wearing a pad & a tampon, but I don't really like the tampons they are so uncomfortable, & I hate the clots but the pad alone didn't work. what a conversation for first thing in the morning.
