That reminds me of a friend I had in grade school & in the sixth grade she'd run around her house w/ a baby bottle hanging out of her mouth. Told her I thought it was goofy, but she didn't care! k

Can I join in? Must confess I only read the first page so please forgive me if my post in incongruous. I am 46 and I am Done. Post? was it? I haven't had a period for 2 years!! YAY!! On the downside my 11 year old daughter has already started. To me that is WAY too soon, poor kid. She has missed 2 swim parties this summer because of it. Well on the bright side, at least there aren't two of us pms'ing at the same time around here.

Seems all girls are starting early. I've heard it blamed on the injections in chicken, but I'm sure there's a number of other things. I'm concerned what they will experience during this time. Most of us seem to have started all this around 40 when our moms started at 50. I'm concerned it could get earlier & earlier for women. k

On the average girls are starting younger. I have 2 daughters. The younger one started before the older one. The girls are 2 years apart. I was very careful how I handled it. I went through menopause about 50. 40 is a little young. Have you had a complete physical to make sure that there isn't something medically wrong. I don't mean to scare you, but it is always best to error on the side of being checked out. Welcome!!

I started when I was 11. When I was in the 5th grade, all the girls in 5th & 6th grades were taken aside by the school nurse and the women teachers, and given "the talk" about what happens to girls our age once a month. The boys were taken aside by the male P.E. teacher and given some kind of lecture! Well, here I am 43 years later at age 54 and going through perimenopause. Wish Aunt Flo would just leave me alone. I am way past the point of ever having children, or even wanting any. I keep thinking of the $$ I could save by not buying any more menstrual pads.

Oh, I'm far from done. I'm in the throws of pre now. I've heard the process can take a full 10 years & I believe it, so I've got another year to go & maybe more (I'm 48 now). k

I thought I was in the early stages of peri because I was getting hot flashes, but they have pretty much stopped so I'm not sure where I am at now.

I head on the news the other day that there's a link between hot flashed and clogged arteries. I'll look for a link to it later.

Don't mean to jump into the thread but Aunt flo came to visit, here for 3 days. Problem is, I had her visit about 2 1/2 weeks ago, but that was only 2 days and one night. Also feeling quite nervous and anxious. I am wondering if its stress considering what is going on with my marriage and separation, or peri because I am having other peri symptoms. I know I should go see the dr, but I am terrified because the last thing I need right now is to have something else go wrong.

It could be something that is really easy to fix.

Hey ladies, I've been gone for awhile but I'M BAAACK. Glad to see this thread is still here. I've been having trouble for awhile with abnormal bleeding (pretty much all the time) and I got really frustrated back in the spring and told my gyno I'm sick of it. She recommended an ablation but wanted me to get an ultrasound (that was an experience I'd rather not repeat, but I'll probably have to). The ultrasound showed I have multiple fibroids, so that ruled out the ablation. The doctor recommended a hysterectomy, but I don't have the money or sick time for that, so I stewed for awhile and in the meantime did some research on the Internet. I learned about a procedure called uterine artery embolization (also called uterine fibroid embolization). When I went back to my gyno for my checkup last month, she said she thought I'd be a good candidate and referred me to a doctor here in town who does this procedure. There's a really good article about this procedure on mayoclinic.com if you'd like to learn more. I'm scheduled to have it done on 10/15 and they'll keep me in the hospital overnight for observation. Potential side effects are pain (which is why they're keeping me overnight), and something called post-embolization syndrome, which includes fever, extreme fatigue, nausea and vomiting. It doesn't sound like much fun, but if it can stop me from bleeding all the time, I'm game. I'd appreciate your prayers very much.

I know what you all are talking about. The Hotflashes,Fatigue and the aches and pains. I have been taking Black Coash for my hotflashes and also I drink Soymilk. Soy is suppose to help also. I also drink alot of Powerade which is good for replenishing because those hotflashes take something out of you. But the best thing is "PRAYER" the Lord will help you through it. I will be praying for all because I know what it is like.

Well, for one thing, you need to change gynos. No gyno should ever NOT listen to you & just ignore it. That's ridiculous. Get a new one NOW! k

ORIGINAL: m4maggie Did anyone experience menopausal symptoms early?? I mean really early? Let me explain.. I'm 30 years old. I've had hot flashes, night sweats, my cycles have been steady but the flow is what's irregular, spotting (which I've never had), itchiness*down there* and dysmorrhenia (painful periods which lasts for days with little relief from OTC meds).. Add to that my libido is almost non-existant. Oh.. and I have benign lumps in both breasts.. Yay.. I've tried to speak to my doctor about this, but he'll hear nothing of it.. I'm too young he keeps telling me.. Personally, I don't think that these symptoms are normal and they do have an impact on my day to day life. Some days not as bad as others, but isn't any issue a problem if it effects daily living? I need some feedback.. one friend suggested cysts or polycystic ovarian syndrome, but I've had kids and my cycles have never been a problem. It would be a nightmare for me to be going through menopause this early especially seeing that a lot of my gal pals are having their first kids while my own system is going into shutdown. I agree with kd. You need to tell these things to a different gyn. There could be a huge variety of things that would make your cycle irregular and/or bring on hotflashes. As for me, AF was due to arrive around the first of Oct. She's running late. I don't mind, it's just that when she does come after a long absence, it's usually an unforgetable visit. KWIM?

I started spotting before my periods about in my mid thirties. I also have poly-cystic "disease" and have many lumps. I don't know if either of these things have anything to do with menopause, though.
