OK- Yesterday was a normal first day of my period. I was worried because dd didn't telll me that she used most of the pads last week.

Today- nothing, nada, zilch, zippo!

I could get used to that!

Too bad it probably won't last.

I plan on going to the store on my way home from work on Monday and stocking up on Always.

Mine ended up starting Friday night, more than a week early. But I'm glad. It stopped the PMDD symptoms after only a few hours. And I'm going to Vegas this weekend and really didn't want to have to deal with it there.

I went to the doc today for another issue, and while there I said BTW I still haven't had a period, she said she wasn't worried...I said well I am! She chuckled and told me I am going through the change and this is part of what changes.

Like I didn't know that.

Great thread. I've been riding this train for a looong time. I'm 49. My mom was done at 42, my sister at 45. I've had many of the perimenopause symptoms since my late 30's, but I'm still waiting for everything to be done. This year I went for nearly 4 months without a period, and was sure it was finally over. Nope, when it came, it made up for all the months I'd missed. It was three months till the next one, and it came without any warning. I just hope this means I'm getting close to being done with it.

One tip that helps me with the night sweats. On the worst nights, I take a large cooler pack from the freezer and sleep with it.

I've done that! After a good wave of heat, the thing wilts as though it were microwaved.

My MIL sent me a "Maxine" card yesterday:

"With age comes wisdom.

And, of course, hot flashes you could toast marshmallows on."

What a woman she is!
It is so wonderful to have her to talk to about these things!

Would the masses agree that in the latter stages of peri that the majority will have to deal w/ the on again off again, several months apart, no warning type periods? It's bad enough right now dealing w/ heavy flows & residual blood several days after it should be over. I think it's got to be worst to get a long break & then it sneak up on you w/o warning. Reminds me a lot of a hurricane. It's still bad after the eye comes through w/ still more bands & can go on for several hours. The big stuff ain't over till it's over! kd

What bothers me, is that I will go months without a pd. then it will come & be real heavy or I've gone a few months without & get one & it's light. You never know what to expect. You can't even begin to predict when it might come.

Wow, I can't believe I found this page!

I've been put on bc to control my cycle......I bled for over two solid months, and didn't want to go to the doctor, but almost passed out because of the wonderful anemia I had developed. The first cycle on the pill I was in so much pain I thought I would pass out. I gush so hard the first day that a tampon will actually pop out, and pads with wings don't help much since a gush will go down the wings and soak my jeans without touching my underwear!

Oh, and did I mention that after an ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy (they suspected cancer) that they found I have two huge fibroids?

Life is good.

Well, it's a wait and see right now. They think that the amount of bleeding has something to do with the fibroids. Using the pill to control the length of my cycle helps in some ways (I am no longer anemic, after being sick for weeks) but the estrogen levels may make the fibroids grow bigger. Not a good thing.

The doc wants me to eventually come off the pill and see if my cycle has resumed a normal length. If it hasn't, he'll be performing more tests to see if he'll have to do something more serious, probably surgically.

Of course, finding THAT out scared me half to death. I'll probably go ahead and stay on the pill till the end of the year.

I would ask my mom when she went through menopause, but she had a full hysterectomy in her early forties, younger than I am already. Sigh.....

Yeah, don't you just love it when you reel off a list of complaints and the doctor tells you that's all normal? I don't really care whether it's normal -- just DO SOMETHING about it!

Your peri/menopause may not be all that much like your mom's would've been anyway. Since I'm in perimenopause, I've had problems with hot flashes/night sweats and thinning hair. Sometimes my mother will start talking about how she never had those problems when she went through "the change," and I want to retort, "Maybe not, but you sure were a pill to live with!"

Actually, my doctor is the exact opposite. She would assume worse case scenario & want to run a bunch of tests, just to charge it on my insurance. I prefer not to tell her anything. k

My mom resembles those remarks!

AF still can't make up her mind if she's coming for a visit or not. I wish she'd hurry up and decide because the best part of her visits is knowing that she's leaving!

Last Thursday after being admitted to the hospital I started.
Isn't that just the PERFECT timing?

They did a belly CT on me to find out what was causing the pain, and in passing they mentioned I have a cyst on my ovary. They ordered hormone tests and found out my hormones are "free ranging". (Made me think of cattle ).

So, they put me on hormone therapy (basically a low dose birth control), hoping that would regulate my periods and get rid of the cyst.
I are now entering day 7 of this period and really, I liked the 2 months I went without better.

Good grief.

Is stupidity a sign of menopause?
