Thanks for your reply Ezra, I do agree that people can receive the Holy Spirit before baptism as shown in Acts 10, and I also believe that people can be baptized before they receive the Holy Spirit, as according to Acts 8 and acts 19. I have heard many different interpretations of these instances, such as the baptism that was given to the people in acts 8 and acts 19 were not valid baptisms, because baptism is only valid if it occurs after the spirit, or after salvation. I do not agree with this interpretation because I dont believe that Philip or Paul would have baptized people at the inappropriate time. And if they did, surely someone would have corrected them; this would especially had been the case in acts 8 after Peter came down to pray for them, that they might receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and yet, he stayed silent. There is also no record of people being baptized immediately after Peter had come down, and it is evident that in the first church, baptism was something that was done immediately after conversion. Do you agree Ezra? quote:

ORIGINAL: abu_khomar I dont really understand why some people believe in the indwelling of the Spirit and then the baptism, can someone please shoe me why they believe this based with scripture? The OP ----- John 3:5 birth of water and of Spirit to enter into heaven abu: In John 3:5 Christ says that we must be born of water and of the Spirit in order to enter the Kingdom of God. This is speaking of the New Birth, but there are four interpretations to what is meant by "water": 1. The water of baptism (believed by Catholics and Church of Christ) 2. Water as symbolic of the Holy Spirit (which is true in Scripture but may be reduntant here, but could also be valid) 3. The water of the amniotic fluid (natural childbirth) which would make no sense whatsoever, since all sinners are born through natural childbirth. 4. Water as symbolic of the Word of God, and more specifically the Gospel. This would be the most valid interpretation, since without the preaching of the Gospel and the believing thereof, there can be no salvation (Rom. 10:8-21). It is not "the indwelling" of the Holy Spirit that is in view, but rather "the gift of the Holy Ghost" to those who believe the Gospel (Acts 2:38). The moment the Holy Spirit is given, He (God the Holy Spirit) regenerates the sinner who believes (Tit. 3:4-7). This is called "the washing of regeneration", and is the same as the New Birth. Does the gift of the Holy Ghost precede water baptism? Absolutely. Study Acts 10:44-48. I have referenced the Scriptures. You will need to spend the time in studying them.
