WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain was projected to be the winner of primaries in Connecticut, New Jersey and Illinois on Tuesday night, reaching for command of the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

In the the hotly contested coast-coast struggle for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Barack Obama was projected to take two victories, one in his home state of Illinois, a big prize on Super Tuesday, while Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was also projected to win two states, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

NBC News projected that McCain would win in GOP contest in Connecticut, Illinois and New Jersey, and Mitt Romney would win in Massachusetts, where he once was governor. Earlier, former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee, won a deal-laden Republican convention in West Virginia.

(WTNH) _ This might cause a headache for Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign in Connecticut. It's Chelsea Clinton inside a New Haven polling place at 6:00 a.m.

So why might this be an issue? According to state law, candidates or a candidate's representative, such as someone wearing a sign, have to stay 75-feet away from polling places "on the day of any primary".

The daughter of the Democratic presidential candidate was delivering a box of coffee to poll workers and talking with a firefighter in New Haven. According to a News Channel 8 photographer who was there, when the moderator announced that the polls are open, Clinton immediately went outside.

Clinton, on other hand, is strongest among whites without a college degree--the white working class. In New Jersey, she wins voters without a college degree by 54 to 43 percent. In a surprise twist after a chaotic Super Tuesday, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) passed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in network tallies of the number of delegates the candidates racked up last night.

The Obama camp now projects topping Clinton by 13 delegates, 847 to 834.

NBC News, which is projecting delegates based on the Democratic Party's complex formula, figures Obama will wind up with 840 to 849 delegates, versus 829 to 838 for Clinton.

Congress on Wednesday sent to President Bush two bills that would make permanent a program to protect consumers from unwanted phone calls from telemarketers. Its hallmark is the national "do not call" list.

"This initiative has proven to be one of the most popular laws in history," said Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C. Extending the program was necessary "to avoid the wrath of millions of angry constituents."

The Do Not Call Registry, initiated in 2003, has been widely acclaimed for allowing Americans to eat their suppers in peace. Some 150 million people have listed their phones on the registry, which prohibits calls from telemarketers.

Last year, at least 26 San Diego County residents were kidnapped and held for ransom in Tijuana, Rosarito Beach or Ensenada, local FBI agents overseeing the cases said yesterday. In 2006, at least 11 county residents had been kidnapped in the three communities.

“Some of the 26 were recovered, some were hurt and some were killed,” said agent Alex Horan, who directs the FBI's violent-crime squad in San Diego.

Here lieth the campaign of Mitt Romney, victim of the mistaken belief that the only way to succeed in national Republican politics was to turn yourself into something you are not. Or maybe the campaign revealed what his closest friends never imaged him to be. They thought he was a decent classy guy. But maybe he really is a soulless throat-cutter who would do and say anything to win.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he was a good fellow who didn't know enough about national politics and listened to people who gave him bad, cynical advice.

Sen. John McCain was in a good position before; now it's hard to imagine that he won't wrap up the nomination in the next week or two. His lone remaining serious opponent, Mike Huckabee, has exceeded expectations, but expecting him to be able to unhorse McCain is perhaps expecting too much.

Now, in a federal court filing from December, federal prosecutors have described CAIR as "having conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists." The government also stated that "proof that the conspirators used deception to conceal from the American public their connections to terrorists was introduced" in the Dallas Holy Land Foundation trial last year and the Chicago trial of the Hamas men in 2006.

The government also stated that another organization, the Muslim American Society (MAS) was "founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States." This appears to be the first time the US government has officially described the true origins and ulterior agenda of the Muslim American Society. And no disagreement can possibly make him worse than Hillary Clinton would be for our country, or for the conservative values and principles we know are essential for our nation's future.

It seems to me that on two of the most critical issues we face, John McCain has rock solid conservative credentials.

Huckabee to get evangelical leader's nod
I already voted for Huck yesterday before Dobson's endorsement; I talk alot of politics w/ friends and never ever recall a single conversation about what Dobson thinks.

As to yesterday's vote; I missed the Giants parade & business/dinner in the city to maybe meet a friend coming in from out of state.... because I had to have a medical procedure & then be in the ambulatory recovery room+++, when I finally got back into Brooklyn it was like 8pm w/ polls closing in an hour.

As usual I signed in but when I got in the booth couldn't pull the lever for Huck or any GOPer, only the sickening weak dems.

I had to inquire as to why I couldn't vote for the GOP & was told by at minimum two pollsters that I was registered as a democrat (which is not my party); it caused alot of drama as in my part of Brooklyn republicans are rare.

They had to get a republican official on-site that worked w/ the pollsters in unfreezing the machine & getting me a paper ballot to vote in another secluded area, where I cast my vote for Huckabee. Who is a fellow believer..and right on conservative social issues.Thompson & others that dropped out were still on the selections but Huck was the only 1 left who I might be closer to in our ways of thinking. Paul of course is way too nutty.

So there I was after being told because of the medications given me earlier (I must have been still a bit woozy as I thought for a moment if they couldn't rectify the problem--I would go back behind the curtain & vote for Obama)even though told to make no major decisions & being in a polling place where republicans are a rare breed & put through alot of stuff in order to get to vote.But hey, people have died so that each of us would have this right..

Supporters of Huckabee are so angry that they have launched a “Send it Back” campaign, asking people who have copies of books by Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity to send them back to their authors. They’re angry that Limbaugh and Hannity were trashing Huckabee on the air. Limbaugh and Hannity were joined by Laura Ingraham in trying to rally their listeners around Mitt Romney. The ploy failed. Romney won in seven contests on Super Tuesday but failed to win either California, where he expected to win, or any Southern state.

The “Send it Back” campaign also applies to Ann Coulter, who attacked Huckabee as the “Republican Jimmy Carter.” Coulter, who has achieved notoriety for making personal attacks and writing books blasting Democrats, also said that McCain was so unacceptable that she would vote and campaign for Hillary Clinton if the Arizona senator was the Republican presidential nominee.

Congress' approval fell to just 22 percent, equaling its poorest grade in the survey. Both marks dropped by 4 percentage points since early January.

The dour public mood seems to chiefly reflect distress over the doddering economy, which has seen job cuts, financial market slides and real estate losses stoke recession fears. Bush's approval for handling the economy dove to 29 percent, a slide of 4 percentage points in a month and matching his low on that issue, with noticeable slumps among middle-income people, Southerners and city residents.

"He's spent billions of dollars on the war, and the economy here is suffering," said Ron Brathwaite, 41, a Democrat from Brooklyn, N.Y., who was interviewed in the poll. "If you're leading this country, you should start fixing within this country."

The charges, to be filed in the military commission system at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, would involve as many as six detainees held at the detention camp, including Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the former senior aide to Osama bin Laden, who has said he was the principal planner of the plot.

The case could begin to fulfill a longtime goal of the Bush administration: establishing culpability for the terrorist attacks of 2001. It could also help the administration mak
