During his regular “Question of the Hour” segment on Monday’s Situation Room, CNN commentator Jack Cafferty compared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s idea to spend hundred of millions of dollars on contraception as a cost-reducing measure to the oppressive birth control policies of the Chinese Communists under Mao: “What exactly did she mean? Are the millions of dollars for contraception supposed to stop people from having babies? [That’s] starting to sound a little like Chairman Mao.”

The commentator began his 5 pm Eastern hour “Cafferty File” segment by describing President Obama’s proposed stimulus package, and how this past weekend, “lawmakers were out on their soap boxes. Democrats were selling the plan. Republicans were pointing out problems with the plan.” He then addressed Speaker Pelosi’s comments to George Stephanopoulos on This Week: “On ABC, the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, defended hundreds of millions of dollars in the stimulus package earmarked for contraception. She said family planning reduces costs and explained that the stimulus plan includes assistance to states, and part of that includes children’s health and education. That such a campaign was launched only days after Obama's inauguration is "tremendously perturbing," he wrote.

When President Bush flew home to Texas last week, they showed a video of his greatest accomplishments during the flight. Word has it that the video got them most of the way through takeoff.

The United States does have reasonable avenues for legal immigration and always have had but Ms. Polanco and those who think like her somehow believe it is right and reasonable that this country simply absorb any and all disaffected, poor and unemployable persons who think nothing of ignoring our laws.

From tiny acorns, mighty government debacles grow. House GOP Leader John Boehner on Monday rightly sounded the alarm over billions in stimulus tax dollars that could potentially go to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). But the Republican leadership has only scratched the surface over what amounts to a bottomless slush fund for a bigger coalition of housing entitlement thugs.

ACORN, you may recall, is the left-wing activist group with longtime ties to community organizer-turned-President Barack Obama. The nonprofit, which now takes in 40 percent of its revenues from American taxpayers after four decades on the public teat, has a history of engaging in voter fraud, corporate shakedowns, partisan bullying and pro-illegal immigration lobbying. The Democrats' stimulus proposals could make the group -- and its lesser known but even more radical ideological allies -- eligible for upward of $5 billion in new public cash.

Talk about subsidizing failure. These are the same activists that helped sow the seeds of the subprime meltdown. They aggressively played the race card and pressured banks to loosen standards, throw out down payments and lend to some of the nation's riskiest borrowers. Now, these mobs protest across the country, disrupt foreclosure auctions, threaten bank executives and accuse lenders of, yep, racism for lending to those riskiest of borrowers.

Of course, the Times might not survive anyway. It labors under $1.1 billion of debt. So precarious are its finances that it recently had to accept a $250 million loan from a Mexican with the unlikely name of Carlos Slim. Whether he really is a Mexican is not clear, and the Times' team of investigative reporters is now so tiny that Executive Editor Bill Keller has not been able to spare even one reporter to inquire.

The Steelers, who won their second Super Bowl in four seasons, led 20-7 in the fourth quarter, only to see Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner effect a remarkable rally to put Arizona ahead 23-20 with less than three minutes remaining.

Warner hit All-Pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald+++ in stride for a 64-yard touchdown with 2:37 left. Fitzgerald sped down the middle of the field, watching himself outrun the Steelers on the huge video screen.

I'm watching VH1 Classic concerts..featuring The Boss....I love the E Street Band..but my politics used to be like Bruce's, but as Dr. Savage says Liberalism Is A MENTAL DISORDER (Kill the unborn! SAVE THE WHALES)...I admire to this day though his musical talents & the fact that he has raised probably millions to feed the hungry.

A Readers Digest version of my life is on POST # 1.

I used to be called by producers to help w/ security at major NJ events...& even Bruce, et. al could trust the 10-20 fellow college students that I could always put together w/ even a days notice to back-up the more veteran security teams..the group was known as A_ _ _ _ _ _ _ 'S ARMY my last name].

Watching Bruce lead the band at rehearsals...he is truly the boss...

As a college student I ran the ferris wheel..Asbury's boardwalk is now in disaray.

In 1976 there was disco & punk rock, and on the Jersey
shores, a new music steeped in oldies, mixing the
Stax/Memphis Sound w/ Phil Spector. As most of you
know it came out of Asbury Park, a decaying resort
town 60 miles south of the Big Apple, where (The Boss)
Bruce Springsteen had The Vision,Southside Johnny had
the soul, & Sugar Miami Steve Van Zandt (Now star of THE SOPRANOS) had quite a
bit of both....



This weekend as I listen to both the Jukes & Bruce's
latest release "Live In New York City" I thought of
those old days & of many of you Donna,Fi,Bob,Helen &
Rich to name a few...I remember the many shows that we
saw & took part in & even helped produce in Asbury
Park,Brookdale College (Where I met Brenda-now since
married a couple more times),Red Bank (Where I picked
up the Red Bank Rick nic),etc.And, the years that I
emceed the Annual Clearwater Festivals @ Gateway
National Park---& became a Founding Board Member of MC
Friends of The Clearwater---guess Helen & Rich are
about to pull off another one this month (?).
I remember the night-time sails on The Clearwater
Sloop,one time I even went sailing w/ Pete Seeger &
Wife;the night Otis Blackwell(All Shook Up, Fever,
Etc.) & I appeared on Vinny Scelsa's Show on
WNEW-FM;The National Park Police intervening in a
fight between the ex-Mrs. A******* & I @ the
Clearwater House;John R****** getting George Wald,Nobel
Laureate stoned for the 1st time as I assigned him to
be backstage w/ Alan Ginsberg @ the Sounds of the
Shore Benefit @ the Asbury Convention Center (Oh
Boy);the famous interview that Chuck P***** & I did
with Southside Johnny on WBJB-FM, engineered by Donna
***,it was said to be better than anything even
WNEW-FM could've put together;catching Bob Killian
performing in NYC-& Rich taking one of a myriad of
pictures of me coming out of club bathrooms;my scoop
in Sound Options about Bruce Springsteen's come-back
being picked up by a major music publication;Donna &
my working on The Jukes 1st ever full-stage concert @
The Carlton & the times we did security for Bruce's
shows & got to drink all the beer we
confiscated;playing darts @ Gulliver's Pub,eating a
hotdog on the boardwalk, & drinking beers with the
latest major acts visiting The Stone Pony;& toasting
the victory in Federal Court when we won the 1st
Amendment case (settled actually)against Brookdale
College---Front page news that lead me to a full-time
job @ The Village Voice Newspaper!
It was fun;we always worked great as a team
(Bob,remember when the Clearwater sail was underbooked
& I climbed into the Dock Masters booth to make PA
announcements @ Atlantic Highlands?-it worked!);we
travelled in circles w/ many of the greats;shared many
a laugh, hugs when needed, & even shed a few tears
together...as the song says "Without love, you're not
really you...."


THE CLEARWATER SLOOP
Southside Johnny was recently in my neighborhood for a
concert @ B.B. King's Blues Club on forty-deuce;Miami
Steve Van Vandt has made a transition to acting, & is
now in The Sopranos;Bob & Fi are in Florida;Donna in
San Diego;John R****** is MIA;Brenda married AGAIN-I've
only have had only one other loving relationship since
then of any meaning;Ohh yeah-I have fallen in love
with The Lord since my Jersey Shore days & now when
I'm @ a microphone it's usually to introduce a
choir;The Boss just had a power packed HBO
Special---where he "worked the crowd like a gospel
singer"(John Pareles,NY Times 6-14-2000; & most of our
old friends are alive to this very day, & mostly doing
well, Praise God!
Indeed it was truly a golden period for rock &
roll---& for us---But, like all great rock and roll,
The Asbury Park Sound, & all it's promise,while no
longer @ the forefront,remains there still for
many---forever in our hearts.
I can almost smell the salt air again.....

Closing note: From E Street I was closest to Sax player Clarence Clemons..when I was at the VILLAGE VOICE my boss & I spent a day & night w/ Clarence at his Sea Bright condo...the Shore Casino where he was showcasing a band he was managing & at a club he owned..I was trying to get the Boss to do an ad for the VILLAGE VOICE, as he found some of his band through our newspaper.

I broke a story of Bruce's return after his highly publicized legal problems...for a music newspaper & of course my own paper SOUND OPTIONS after calling Miami Steve's house to confirm...I out scooped all the media.

Became friends w/ Southside Johnny..& back then my college friends were bold & young..& had fun almost nightly...

As I am making $$$$ even as a rookie investor...If I ever make enough I may finance a special music industry project..of course I can't give away the idea as it may be a $$$$ maker.

Does anyone think that a major newspaper like the Los Angeles Times would ever allow a hateful and patently false anti-Semitic or anti-Muslim personal attack to be published in its letters to the editor? Of course not. But check out this whopper of anti-Catholic vitriol that is in the pages of the Times today (Mon. 2/2/09):

The Jesuits have a saying, "Give me the boy until he is 7, and I will give you the man." You can now add, "Give Adolf Hitler the boy until he is 7, and he will give you the pope."

For the first time, a majority of Americans say the Democratic stimulus plan is likely to do the U.S. economy more harm than good. That’s the surprising finding of a new Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,000 likely voters.

The Rasmussen poll asked “How likely is it that the final economic recovery plan passed by Congress will make things worse instead of better?”

Half of those surveyed -- 50 percent – said it is “somewhat likely” or “very likely” that the stimulus deal will make the economy worse. That compares to only 39 percent who thought the mega-spending bill probably would not make things worse. Twelve percent of those surveyed weren’t sure.

The estimate for the number of jobs the stimulus would create, the report said, is based on the “rule of thumb that a 1 percent increase in GDP (gross domestic product) corresponds to an increase in employment of approximately 1 million jobs or about three-quarters of a percent.”

The report, published on Jan. 10, was co-authored by Christina Romer, who was then the nominee to become chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein, who then worked in the office of the vice president-elect. On Jan. 28, the Senate confirmed Romer as chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers and Bernstein now serves as an economic adviser to Vice President Joe Biden.

The bill also authorizes government searches without warrant, the creation of a federal bureaucracy to monitor firearm possession, etc.

USA Today reports that the husband of Labor Secretary-nominee Hilda Solis settled more than $6,000 in tax liens Wednesday. The liens were outstanding for up to 16 years against his auto repair business. Solis listed the business on her House financial disclosure forms, as well as bank accounts totaling between a quarter-million and half-a million dollars.

Perhaps more damaging to her appointment, Solis appears to have violated several House ethics rules. The former California lawmaker failed to reveal on her financial disclosure forms that she was the treasurer and a member of the board of directors for an outside organization that was lobbying Congress in favor of card-check legislation that Ms. Solis was co-sponsoring in the House at the time.

In her "Ms. Information" segment, Maddow engaged in a rant about Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., opposition to language in the stimulus bill that could forbid the practice of religion in institutions of higher learning where stimulus funds are used, as a Feb. 3 story by the Culture & Media Institute pointed out.

Maddow explained how this provision had been in the bill for over 40 years, then played a portion of DeMint's speech on her Feb. 6 MSNBC show.

When you read through the nearly seven hundred pages of the House stimulus bill it is easy to begin dozing off after a few hundred billion dollars worth of run-of-the-mill wasteful government spending. One has to keep a keen eye out for the components of the bill that don't just steal your money, but that may actually do you great physical harm, if not kill you outright.

On page 151 of this legislative pork-fest is one of the clandestine nuggets of social policy manipulation that are peppered throughout the bill. Section 9201 of the stimulus package establishes the "Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research." This body, which would be made up of federal bureaucrats will "coordinate the conduct or support of comparative effectiveness and related health services research."

Sounds benign enough, but the man behind the Coordinating Council, Health and Human Services Secretary-designate (and tax cheat) Tom Daschle, was kind enough to explain the goal of this organization. It is to cut health care costs by preventing Americans from getting treatments that the government decides don't meet their standards for cost effectiveness. In his 2008 book on health care, he explained that such a council would, "lower overall spending by determining which medicines, treatments and procedures are most effective-and identifying those that do not justify their high price tags."

WASHINGTON – Another Democratic U.S. senator has gone on record as supporting the reinstatement of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," adding, "I feel like that's gonna happen."

Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., told radio host and WND columnist Bill Press yesterday when asked about whether it was time to bring back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine": "I think it's absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it's called the Fairness Standard, whether it's called something else – I absolutely think it's time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place."

Stabenow's husband, Tom Athans, was executive vice president of the left-leaning talk radio network Air America. He left the network in 2006, when it filed for bankruptcy, and co-founded the TalkUSA Radio Network.

.......In 1986, President Ronald Reagan signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act stating that illegal immigration was a "challenge to our national sovereignty." This was to be the final reform measure needed to once and for all solve our illegal immigration problem. Illegal immigrants in the United States for longer than four and half years were given amnesty. In exchange, businesses were to be held accountable from that point on for knowingly and willingly hiring illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, this law never truly lived beyond its most generous proposal of the blanket amnesty. But the intention was clear -- no more amnesty.

In December the feds arrested 15 illegal contract workers at the BP Refinery in Whiting. Gary Hartwig, special agent-in-charge of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office of Investigations in Chicago stated in a news release, "There is a serious public safety concern when illegal aliens . . . are working in secure areas of one of our nation's largest oil refineries. . . . (it) represents a significant vulnerability in our national security."

Costs resulting from illegal immigration are equally staggering. Four surveyed hospitals estimated total un-reimbursed health care costs to be $2.7 million per year. Multiply that across the state. Education costs are estimated to be in excess of $200 million annually. This doesn't include the cost of displaced Hoosier workers who unfairly compete for jobs with non-citizens. With unemployment at 8.2 percent and an estimated 266,469 citizens out of work, Hoosier tolerance for this type of discrimination is low.

ABC's George Stephanopoulos was puzzled on Sunday's This Week when new Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele saw a difference between government-created temporary “make work” jobs and jobs created by the private sector: “I guess I don't really understand that distinction.” When Steele charged that “what this administration is talking about is making work,” Stephanopoulos interjected, “But that's a job,” leading Steele to explain: “No, it's not a job. A job is something that a business owner creates. It's going to be long term. What he's [Obama's] creating” are projects that “have an end point.”

Answering Stephanopoulos' confusion, Steele elaborated: “Well, the difference, the distinction is this. If you got a government contract that's a fixed period of time it goes away. The work may go away. There's no guarantee that there's going to be more work when you're done that job.” To which, Stephanopoulos retorted: “But we've seen millions and millions of jobs going away in the private sector just in the last year.” Steele tried again: “Yes, but they come back though, George. That's the point. They've gone away before and they come back.”

An incredulous Stephanopoulos characterized Steele's plan as “simply” to incentivize small business: “So your plan would simply be more incentives to small businesses?”

A new poll has shown that Palestinians support continued suicide bombings against Israel by 55.4 percent as compared to 37.6 percent who oppose it. The poll, conducted by Jerusalem Media and Communications Center, also found:



· That 50.8 percent of Palestinian believe that rocket attacks upon Israel from Gaza help Palestinians achieve their goals, as against 20.8 percent who believe such attacks harm the attainment of Palestinian goals;

· If elections were held today, 28.6 percent of Palestinians would vote for Hamas and 27.9 percent of Palestinians would vote for Fateh;

A CBS News poll conducted February 2 through February 4 found that 62 percent of Americans believe that tax cuts would do more to get the country out of recession, while only 16 percent thought government spending would. However, when Evening News anchor Katie Couric touted other results from that same poll on Thursday, February 5 she managed to leave out that particular finding. That poll finding has not been mentioned in any CBS News coverage since the poll’s release on February 5.

Instead, Couric focused on the aspect of the poll that claimed that 51 percent of Americans support the so-called "stimulus" bill being pushed by the Obama administration and Democrats in Congress. In addition, later on Thursday’s Evening News, correspondent Chip Reid also cited a poll question that showed 81 percent of Americans saw President Obama as being bipartisan in the debate over the massive spending bill.

My wife and I recently spent an evening assisting more than 600 people in families racked by unemployment and poverty.

They were given a hot meal, bags of groceries, bus tokens, coupons and advice/counseling if requested. They needed a band-aid, and we gave them one. But most of all, these households need a job.

The majority of U.S. Senators have decided that illegal foreign workers deserve a job as much as the Americans in our soup kitchen, meaning more of these Americans will remain jobless. Can the Senators even see these faces?

Through most of his inaugural primetime press conference, Barack Obama seemed like he was channeling a particularly loquacious combination of Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, and the ghost of Hubert Humphrey. The president's response to the first question from the Associated Press about the risks of sounding too apocalyptic about the economy ran (or, to be more accurate, crawled) for nearly 1,200 words--and ended with Obama saying "Okay" with an implicit question mark as if he were requesting permission to keep on talking. A national poll from the Pew Research Center released Monday afternoon found that 92 percent of Americans described Obama as a "good communicator." There is a suspicion that those astronomic numbers had dipped by the time that Obama exited from the East Room of the White House at 9 p.m. on the dot.

In Obama's defense, the press conference was the first extended glimpse that many Americans had of their new president since the Inaugural Address. No one can deny the complexity of the economic challenges facing the nation--and President Obama is uniquely equipped to play Explainer in Chief. But Obama radiated the sense of a leader who has digested too many economic briefings and memorized too many talking points in preparation for his primetime rendezvous with the public. He clearly came out in an over-caffeinated mood ready to do battle with his Republican congressional foes, whom he had already vanquished-and, as a result, he over-reacted to last week's Fox News commentary instead of focusing on the exact shape of the stimulus. What shone through the entire press conference is how irked the president is with laissez-faire conservatives who believe, even now, "that the government has no business interfering in the marketplace" and that "FDR was wrong to intervene back in the New Deal." (Presumably Amity Shlaes, the Roosevelt-ripping author, should not plan on any immediate Oval Office invitations).

It is inevitable that the Obama press conference will be reviewed as political theater, since it was light on ... well ... that amorphous thing called news. The president's strongest answer was in response to the evening's fluffiest question, about Alex Rodriguez's confession that he had taken steroids. After an honest baseball fan's lament ("it tarnishes an entire era"), Obama jumped to a larger point that transcends sports--the lesson in A-Rod's downfall for the young: "There are no shortcuts; that when you try to take shortcuts you may end up tarnishing your whole career." Obama also took advantage of the presidential prerogative to duck when he was asked a tricky question about ending the ban on media coverage of the flag-draped coffins arriving at Dover Air Force Base. "We are in the process of reviewing those policies in conversations with the Defense Department," Obama said without revealing his hand. "So I don't want to give you an answer now, before I've evaluated that review and understand all the implications involved."
