Corrections Officers' Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook has suggestd since Friday that inmates and staff from the Ann M. Kross Center, as well as the North Infirmary Command, be transferred to other jails until the city completes a full investigation. Seabrook has called on the city to immediately close any facilities where swine flu has been discovered so they can be thoroughly cleaned.

A central point in the President's speech was "faith" and its supposed inherent "doubt." Obama told the students: "Remember, too, that the ultimate irony of faith is that it necessarily admits doubt. It's the belief in things not seen. It's beyond our capacity as human beings to know with certainty what God has planned for us or what He asks of us … And this doubt should not push away our faith. But it should humble us. It should temper our passions, cause us to be wary of too much self-righteousness. It should compel us to remain open and curious and eager to continue the spiritual and moral debate."

The Christian vision of faith, however, excludes doubt about the articles of the faith and does not admit it as Obama suggests that it "necessarily" does.

The Bible, in the book of Hebrews, defines faith as "the substance of things to be hoped for, the evidence (or certainty) of things that appear not." (Hebrews 11:1)

The parents from the Unified School District in Alameda, a suburb of San Francisco and Oakland, say these issues are best learned at home and most definitely are not age-appropriate for elementary school children.

“I believe these children are far too young to be learning about what these issues mean,” said Alaina Stewart, who has three children who attend elementary school in Alameda. “These are adult issues and they are being thrust upon the children.”

A Texas pastor has discovered a unique way to help others in the sour economy.

Toby Slough is pastor of Cross Timbers Community Church, in Argyle, Texas. Earlier this year, as the offering plate was circulated, Pastor Slough told the congregation to take money if they were suffering financially.

That day, the church reported its largest offering ever. Since then, the non-denominational church has given out half a million dollars to members and non-members. Slough says the concept was tough at first, especially for those who needed the money. But now, he notes, the congregation has responded beyond all expectations.

The tax dollars produced by the capitalism he criticizes help pay his salary. (The irony was apparently lost.) At least other "business roundtable" panelists -- commentator/publisher/author Arianna Huffington and singer John Legend -- make their money the old-fashioned way, by enticing consumers to buy what they sell.

"I don't think that left to its own devices," the taxpayer-supported broadcaster/pundit said, "capitalism moves along smoothly and everyone gets treated fairly in the process. Capitalism is like a child: If you want the child to grow up free and productive, somebody's got to look over the shoulder of that child." Good grief.

Every dollar spent by government is one less dollar spent by taxpayers. Money comes from somewhere -- taxes, borrowing (taxes on layaway) or printing, which, if not offset by productivity, causes inflation, a stealth tax on everyone. Who can spend, save or invest more efficiently and humanely, you or some tenured bureaucrat in D.C. who's never run so much as a hot dog stand or lent himself out as a United Way volunteer?

The Patients' Choice Act reflects Republican thinking that health care costs are out of control and, as result, not affordable for many, because of too much government. AUGUSTA, ME - A California-based homosexual-rights group has filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service challenging the tax-exempt status of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Maine. The Empowering Spirits Foundation says that by engaging in political activity aimed at overturning Maine's new same-sex "marriage" law, the diocese is violating IRS rules for nonprofits.

A diocese spokesman says IRS policy allows the diocese to participate in the campaign to collect the more than 55,000 voter signatures needed to suspend the law and have voters decide its fate.

After Maine's Legislature passed the bill legalizing same-sex marriage and the governor signed it earlier this month, Bishop Richard Malone called it "a dangerous sociological experiment" and said the diocese would work with others to bring the issue to a vote in November.

The dollar declined 0.5 percent against the euro and 0.4 percent to the lowest in nine weeks versus the yen as of 11:38 a.m. in London. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index slipped 0.1 percent and Europe’s Stoxx 600 Index was up 0.2 percent. Futures on the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained 0.6 percent.

When I take the ferry ride back & forth over the last few months I really miss seeing the World Trade Center as part of the breathtaking NYC skyline. It reminds me how vulnerable we remain..especially under this very weak socialist POTUS.
As it is MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND though I salute our veterans (who the Obama admin. feel a need to include as extremist--because they love the flag..& it was obvious during the campaign that Obama did not.)
I also admire the many military that I see in my travels that are here for FLEETWEEK**** that's being held both in Manhattan & Staten Island.
And as a city on a higher alert than the rest of the nation I appreciate the US Military on duty in our city since 9/11. Thank you all that serve/have served & God bless them all.

Captain Chris Plekenpol was responsible for the lives of 100 men in Iraq during his tour of duty. Now he is a student at Dallas Theological Seminary and a popular public speaker. Plekenpol says most Americans do not know the history of Memorial Day.

"It happened after the Civil War. People would go to Civil War veterans' grave sites and put a yellow rose or a yellow ribbon around it in memory. Finally, back in the [1970s], it was nationalized as a national holiday," he points out. The single most tragic event of my life took place in 1970. It was the day I heard my younger brother, Wieland, was killed in Vietnam. It was a day like no other. No family should have to feel what my mother, brother Aaron, and I did that day. And yet so many do, every day, in every year.

At the height of the Vietnam war, both of my brothers, Wieland and Aaron, enlisted in the U.S. Army. Aaron was stationed in Korea, and Wieland was sent to Vietnam. As Wieland headed off to Nam, I hugged and kissed him and said, "I'm going to miss you. Be careful."

In 1970, I was refereeing a tournament in California when I heard an announcement over the loud speaker, "Chuck Norris, you have an urgent call." I hustled over to the phone. I recognized the muffled voice of my mother-in-law, and she was crying. "What's wrong, Evelyn?" I asked her. "Your brother, Wieland, has been killed in Vietnam." If I had been kicked in the stomach by a dozen karate champions at the same time, it could not have impacted me more. I staggered back away from the phone as though that would somehow make Evelyn's words untrue. It didn't.

I hung up the phone, moving in what felt like slow motion. For a long time I couldn't function. I simply sat in shock, thinking about my little brother, Wieland, my best friend whom I would never see again in this life. Right there, in front of anyone who cared to see, I wept uncontrollably.

Such policies always and everywhere have made conflict and bloodshed more rather than less likely.

Yet, as we remember the countless Americans who paid the ultimate price to defend the land of the free, dark clouds are gathering over the fruited plains. For the pusillanimity of the administration abroad stands in stark contrast to its aggressive assault on our free enterprise system and the principle of limited government domestically – an assault that has already led to an unprecedented and frightening expansion of government power over the American people. Ronald Reagan once said that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. As we pay our respect to the fallen heroes who died for our freedom this Memorial Day, it behooves us to ask ourselves whether we may not be that generation.....

Twenty aged, blind or otherwise disabled New Yorkers sued seeking supplemental local benefits to make up for federal benefits they cannot receive because they are legal residents of the United States, but not citizens . The state's highest court recently handed down a decision in the case.

As noncitizens, the plaintiffs are not eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). In its decision, the court -- the New York Court of Appeals -- ruled they also are ineligible for Additional State Payments to make up the difference.

The specific question presented to the court was whether, under the state and federal constitutions, the plaintiffs and others in the same situation are entitled to receive from the state benefits similar to what aged, blind or disabled persons who are U.S. citizens receive from Social Security. As reported in The New York Times, the ruling affects between 9,500 and 37,000 people. As result of the decision, the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance will save approximately $100 million to $270 million that otherwise have needed to be added to it $1 billion budget.

With budget deficits soaring and President Obama pushing a trillion-dollar-plus expansion of health coverage, some Washington policymakers are taking a fresh look at a money-making idea long considered politically taboo: a national sales tax.

Common around the world, including in Europe, such a tax -- called a value-added tax, or VAT -- has not been seriously considered in the United States. But advocates say few other options can generate the kind of money the nation will need to avert fiscal calamity.

At a White House conference earlier this year on the government's budget problems, a roomful of tax experts pleaded with Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner to consider a VAT. A recent flurry of books and papers on the subject is attracting genuine, if furtive, interest in Congress. And last month, after wrestling with the White House over the massive deficits projected under Obama's policies, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee declared that a VAT should be part of the debate.

The U.S. takes “very seriously” its commitments to defend South Korea and Japan, its principal allies in the region, Clinton said. She called on North Korea to return to the so- called six party talks aimed at dismantling its nuclear arms program.

Tiller was an opportunist who profited hugely from an industry born of evil laws propagated by evil rulers chosen by citizens who rejected God's authority and design of life.

The symposium was entitled, "Raising the Bar: Latino and Latina Presence in the Judiciary and the Struggle for Representation."

The Obama administration has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to protect Saudi Arabia and four of its princes from being held accountable for their alleged role in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the United States that killed almost 3,000 Americans, according to a report in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

Through its solicitor general, Elena Kagan, the Obama administration has asked that the Saudis be held immune under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, or FSIA, even though there is ample U.S. evidence of complicity by the Saudi government and the named princes in support of al-Qaida's attack.

While the FSIA generally protects a sovereign state, there are exceptions under which its provisions can be invoked. Such interpretations are left largely to the courts to determine.

Families of the 9/11 victims, however, have expressed outrage over the Obama administration's filing. They regard the action as undermining the continuing fight against terror.

Media Research Center (MRC) President and NewsBusters.org Publisher Brent Bozell yesterday recorded a video thanking the MRC Grassroots Action Team - made up of more than 600,000 individual activists - for their signing nearly 400,000 Free Speech Alliance (FSA) petitions which were delivered yesterday to the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The petition in part "urge(s) members of Obama's Federal Communications Commission (the FCC) and everyone in Washington to reject any and all efforts to censor, limit, or restrain conservative or Christian talk radio."

Mr. Bozell also discusses the MRC's Four Day Call-A-Thon to the offices of Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid - which is taking place right now and runs through close of business Thursday - where MRC Action Team members, many, MANY members of the FSA and a whole host of individual radio stations and hosts are having their grassroots/members/listeners place calls to their offices demanding a full, fair stand-alone vote on the Broadcaster Freedom Act (BFA), which would prohibit the FCC from reimposing the Censorship Doctrine, also mis-known as the "Fairness" Doctrine.

Liberty County Sheriff’s officials are expected to meet with the FAA on Tuesday to discuss what a Continental Express pilot reported as a “missile or rocket” flying near his airplane.

Muhammad, according to Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas, “likely carried religious and political motives” in the shooting. Thomas also told KATV in Little Rock that the military was specifically targeted.

Much is being made in the media about the murder of a doctor who performed late-term abortions by a radical pro-life activist – even President Obama took the time to comment on it. Let me state up front, as someone who used to consider myself “pro-choice” but find myself moving more firmly into the pro-life camp, I don’t believe that cold-blooded murder of abortion doctors is either morally or politically defensible and the perpetrators should always be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That being said, I find it chilling that we’ve only seen the most perfunctory reporting of the murder of one U.S. soldier and the wounding of another at a Little Rock, Arkansas recruiting station. The suspect is a convert to Islam who has been under investigation by FBI’s Joint Terrorist Task Force since he returned from Yemen. (So much for the idea that law enforcement can take care of the problem.) The suspect, Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad (formerly Carlos Bledsoe), 23 (I have also seen his age listed as 24), apparently was opposed to the U.S. military. According to Little Rock Police Lt. Terry Hastings, "He has converted to (Islam) here in the past few years. We're not completely clear on what he was upset about. He had never been in the military. He saw them standing there and drove up and shot them. That's what he said."

Private William Long, 23 was killed on the scene and Private Quinton Ezeagwula, 18, was wounded. They were working at the recruiting center at the time and were standing outside on a break.

The airport safety delayed an Air France flight this evening before departring for Paris immediately after the company received a bomb threat over the phone at the airport of Ezeiza.

The Federal Police, along the Firemen’s direction and the Airport’s Safety proceeded to inspect the plane, that arrived this morning from the French city and, after a brief stop, it was preparing to return.

The routine procedure lasted approximately one hour and a half and, as sources of the airport reported all the passengers are ok and they were not evacuated.

The speech, in which Obama referenced his Islamic experiences as a child in Indonesia and the Muslim faith of his paternal family, was a major departure from the tone of his campaign last year, when those who factually reported on the candidate's Muslim background, including WND, were denounced as fearmongers and leaders of smear campaigns.

Obama today referred to the Quran as "holy" four times and quoted several verses from the Islamic text. He also used Muslim terminology, such as the Quranic obligation of "zakat" or charity. In his address, Obama tackled what he said were seven major issues of import that "we must finally confront together."

A Posen man accused of killing a toddler allegedly smothered the child with her dirty diaper.

Bail has been denied for Juan Melendez-Reynoso, 31, of 14331 Division St., who was charged Friday with first-degree murder in the suffocation of 22-month-old Ivette Palacios on May 24, the Cook County state's attorney's office said Wednesday.

A judge denied bail because authorities consider Melendez-Reynoso, who is an illegal resident from Mexico, a flight risk, Posen Deputy Police Chief Vickie Paggi said.
