George W. Bush is a man. George W. Bush fired a strike first pitch, Yankee Stadium after 9/11. They made fun of Bush as a klutz, Gerald Ford was an all American college football player, they called him Mr. Potato Head. Chevy Chase had him stumbling and falling down airplane steps. Obama is a big athletic klutz and the Drive-Bys, the State-Run Media, the sports media are trying to portray him as the Second Coming of Michael Jordan. Greetings, folks, welcome, Rush Limbaugh, the EIB Network and the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies and a special sports division -- (interruption) Yes, it was a girlie toss. Did you see it? Let me explain this to you. Let me explain the first pitch. I want to get this out of the way. First off, he was booed. He was booed by half the crowd, but they knew he was going to be booed. He wore a Chicago White Sox jacket when he went out to the mound. Now, the reason he did that was so that his handlers could explain that was the reason for the boos, because St. Louis and Chicago, huge rivalry. He woulda really been booed had he worn a Cubs jacket because the White Sox don't ever play the Cardinals.

But regardless, he got booed and they set it up, that's also why Pujols was the catcher rather than Yadier Molina. Albert Pujols is the current athlete god in St. Louis. This whole All-Star week has been about Albert Pujols, and Yadier Molina, who is a great, great catcher and very popular, but nevertheless he's the catcher. I've heard people say that they put Pujols behind the plate because they knew Obama was going to short-hop it, they needed somebody who can scoop. Catchers can scoop. And then they had Obama return out there and shake hands with Stan Musial. Somebody said today Satan could shake hands with Stan Musial and be applauded. That's how big Stan Musial is in St. Louis. I'm not comparing -- (laughing) -- Snerdley, you people relax in there. I'm not drawing any comparisons. I'm just illustrating the popularity of Stan "The Man" Musial, number six, St. Louis Cardinals. So they had Obama, they knew he was going to get booed. They know what his numbers are, they know people aren't digging what's happening here and they had the White Sox jacket, they had him shaking hands out there with Musial.

It seems that every time someone such as myself attempts to encourage our Christian brothers and sisters to resist an unconstitutional or otherwise reprehensible government policy, we hear the retort, "What about Romans Chapter 13? We Christians must submit to government. Any government. Read your Bible, and leave me alone." Or words to that effect.

No doubt, some who use this argument are sincere. They are only repeating what they have heard their pastor and other religious leaders say. On the other hand, let's be honest enough to admit that some who use this argument are just plain lazy, apathetic, and indifferent. And Romans 13 is their escape from responsibility. I suspect this is the much larger group, by the way.

Nevertheless, for the benefit of those who are sincere (but obviously misinformed), let's briefly examine Romans Chapter 13. I quote Romans Chapter 13, verses 1 through 7, from the Authorized King James text:

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Not since the Church Commission during the Carter Administration have we seen US intelligence agencies being purposely denigrated and castrated. In the midst of the Cold War, President Jimmy Carter and other liberal-left politicians were more concerned about US operations against communist aggression than in protecting the US from that aggression. As a result, agencies such as the CIA were practically gutted with massive layoffs of men and women involved in covert operations and drastic cutbacks in covert operations.
Today, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has principal responsibility for countering the activities of foreign intelligence services within the United States in order to protect both classified US Government information and proprietary information held by US industry. Meanwhile, the Central Intelligence Agency is responsible for coordinating US counterintelligence activities abroad. Each of the military departments also possesses a counterintelligence element that operates domestically and overseas.

Each of these elements has offensive and defensive missions. Offensively, they attempt to recruit agents within foreign intelligence services to ascertain what, if any, operations are being undertaken against the United States; they monitor the activities of known or suspected agents of foreign intelligence services; and they undertake operations to ascertain the targets and modus operandi of foreign intelligence services. Defensively, they investigate cases of suspected espionage and prepare analyses for government and industry concerning the foreign intelligence threat.

At age 18 most boys find themselves alone, homeless and undereducated. It is estimated 25% of these boys will remain homeless. Many become engaged in criminal activity or male prostitution. Few find themselves with positive prospects for the future.

I have a softy liberal like heart when it comes to teens that max out of foster care..this after having dedicated a large part of my former career as a supervisor at the nations largest program for runaway/throwaway/tossed out kids...the bulk that ended up in the street & crime, male & female prostitution & homelessness.Luckily for them, we provided assistance up until the age of 21...& was responsible for the NYS lawsuit in which many of our kids sucessfully sued the state for assistance- rather than just showing them the door.I was once excited about candidate Obama's proposed exchange of college for teen volunteer time & was ready to volunteer my time in recruiting and processing volunteers having been responsible for volunteer coordination in my last job, & having worked w/ 1000s of NYC & US kids..but, when I saw that Obama's volunteer corps looked more like the old Nazi youth brigades I gave up...for info on my old agency go to: www.covenanthouse.com

Maria Quon, a public affairs officer with the U.S. Army Human Resources Command-St. Louis, said Tuesday that Cook was no longer expected to report Wednesday to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida for mobilization to active duty. Cook, who claims he is now the victim of retaliation due to his suit, received his mobilization orders to report for active duty at MacDill on Wednesday. From there, he was to go to Fort Benning on Saturday for deployment to Afghanistan.

It is one thing for conservatives to criticize President Obama's QAHCAA (Quality, Affordable Health Coverage for All Americans) health care plan but now even a number of liberals are attacking it as unworkable. We recently saw skepticism emanating from Morning Joe's Mika Brzezinski and now fellow liberal Susan Estrich is expressing deep doubt that any such plan is economically feasable. Estrich kicks off her column with a sarcastic look at the "success" of Obama's stimulus plan:

The stimulus program must really be succeeding in Washington, D.C. Government is hiring; people are working. In fact, if news reports are to be believed, they're working night and day. So maybe there's some sleep deprivation thrown in for good measure. And don't forget the legendary heat and humidity that made service in the nation's Capitol hazardous before the advent of air conditioning.

What other explanation could there be for my friends in Congress and the administration thinking that what the country wants them to do right now is raise taxes and spend a trillion dollars to overhaul health care, much less to push it through in a month in a 1,000-page bill being rewritten every day?

(CNSNews.com) – Opposition is growing to legislation that would weaken some of the restrictions to the Real ID act, a law that resulted from a key recommendation of the 9/11 Commission to prevent identification fraud.

The PASS ID bill, which is supported by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, eliminates security measures included in the Real ID Act, which required verification of birth certificates, Social Security numbers and immigration status before someone could get a driver's license +++that could be used as an identification card for federal purposes such as boarding an airplane. The purposed of the REAL ID act was to prevent ID fraud and fulfill recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission.

The Pass ID bill would not require that the birth certificate is confirmed, would leave addresses off some driver’s licenses in cases where it is for their own protection and would not require that people have a valid driver’s license or ID to board an airplane.

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) circulated the letter, saying that the income surtax on the wealthy would place an undue burden on small businesses, some of which pay taxes in the same way as an individual. The letter had 22 signers, all freshmen except for Rep. Paul Hodes (D-N.H.), who is in his second term.

“Especially in a recession, we need to make sure not to kill the goose that will lay the golden eggs of our recovery,” the letter said. “We are concerned that this will discourage entrepreneurial activity.”

Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Second Circuit in Ricci v. DeStefano.

Hans von Spakovksy, a visiting legal scholar at The Heritage Foundation, says Mayor DeStefano did everything he could to discriminate against the white firefighters because he did not want to upset his biggest political supporter.

Met earlier tonight w/ my best friend @ dinner, @ another friend's restaurant ; he's been unfairly terminated by his former job as a youth drug counselor for the last appx. 4 mos--- no benefits....I represented him (allowable in u/e appeals, as his bosses contested his benefits)...we did so good that I probably punched holes in the testimony of the 2 managers that they sent...to the point that the judge adjourned to get in a top official,that however was almost 50 days ago...this week however ,my friend called u/e & was told adjournments can take 12-14 weeks before a rehearing-- due to a back log of u/e cases (unheard of)...so just be aware that some employers may lie to block benefits, falsify records; & that the u/e offices may be ill equipped to handle the volume.So, what are those trying to get benefits supposed to do??????????

A controversial suit brought by a U.S. Army reservist has been joined by a retired Army two-star general and an active reserve Air Force lieutenant colonel.

Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook filed the suit July 8 in federal court here asking for conscientious objector status and a preliminary injunction based upon his belief that President Barack Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as president of the United States and commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.

However, before the issue got to court, Cook’s orders to deploy to Afghanistan were revoked. Lt. Col. Maria Quon, a public affairs officer with the U.S. Army Human Resources Command-St. Louis, said Tuesday that Cook was no longer expected to report Wednesday to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida for mobilization to active duty. Cook, who claims he is now the victim of retaliation due to his suit, received his mobilization orders to report for active duty at MacDill on Wednesday. From there, he was to go to Fort Benning on Saturday for deployment to Afghanistan.

A homeless man, Scott Griffin, joined other protesters in prayer at an abortion clinic in Rockford. He was walking across the clinic driveway when an employee approached in her car.

Before Congress creates a federal office, a threshold question is whether the Constitution allows the work of that office to be done by the federal government. That is the heart of limited government.

There is, for example, no Department to Promote Politically Correct Thinking. No Congress would ever pass a law creating such an entity. A terrified Reichstag or the Central Committee of the Communist Party, on the other hand, might well do that. In those totalitarian regimes, "government" does not really exist: the party exists or, rather, the party and the state in a hopeless confusion of purpose and function. The very independence of Congress, even a venal and silly Congress, is a natural check upon a party-state with a leader at its apex.

Today, for the first time (to this writer's knowledge) in any poll of his presidency Obama's approval rating falls to 50%. Leaving aside the number itself, that it's the Rasmussen poll cannot be creating many happy campers at the White House. First, Rasmussen polls only likely voters. Second, his daily numbers actually are three-day running averages. This means, mathematically, that Obama was below 50% on at least one day. And third, there is Rasmussen's sterling reputation for accuracy.

What could be worse? Well, falling below 50% would be worse and so Obama might, and soon. But in the meantime, how about this, hot off the Rasmussen Website:

The unemployment rate in the U.S. now stands at 9.5% and soon will top 10%. And the number of U.S. households on the verge of losing their homes soared by nearly 15% in the first half of this year. This has John caused some economists to question whether or not the country is headed toward another economic meltdown--a point of no return. However, watching the news coverage of Barack Obama’s adventures while in office, you might be forgiven for thinking there were no problems left to solve in terms of the economy.

“It’s getting to where you can’t turn on your TV without seeing Obama,” ranted political commentator Bill Maher in a recent piece in the Los Angeles Times. “[T]here’s a fine line between being transparent and being overexposed. Every time you turn on the TV, there’s Obama. He’s getting a puppy! He’s eating a cheeseburger with Joe Biden! He’s taking the wife to Broadway and Paris--this is the best season of ‘The Bachelor’ yet!”

Within his first six months in office, President Obama has been wined and dined, photographed and treated like a rock star--all the while, flashing that bright, toothy grin. He has travelled to Russia, Ghana, Italy, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iraq, Canada, Jordan, Israel, Germany, France and Great Britain. And he has been granted audiences with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace and Pope Benedict XVI at Vatican City.

On the home front, Obama planned and hosted a star-studded concert at the White House in honor of Motown musician Stevie Wonder. A few weeks later, he flew to California and appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno--a trip which had to cost U.S. taxpayers millions of dollars, considering the cost of operating Air Force One, as well as travel for the president’s security detail, staff and the White House press corps. Most recently, Obama travelled to St. Louis, Mo., where he threw the first pitch at the Major League Baseball All-Star game while media pundits obsessed over the style of jeans he was wearing. The reality now is that America has turned over the keys to the US Treasury to an inexperienced community organizer and bull headed socialist who has no compunctions whatsoever about using taxpayer money to fund his radical agenda.

When United States citizens reach the age of 65 they are forced into Medicare and out of any private insurance option for coverage of their healthcare. The government sets the dollar amount doctors, other healthcare providers, and hospitals will be paid for the treatments of a Medicare patient. When a Medicare payment is decided, often the fee is based on which special interest group lobbies the federal government most effectively. No efficacy research for a particular treatment and no market forces enter into this entirely arbitrary decision made in Washington, D.C. Once a fee is established, Medicare pays 80% of the allowable charge. Twenty per cent may be covered by supplemental insurance or patient out of pocket payment. The patient cannot pay his own money for care above and beyond the Medicare allowable–it is against the law.

The elite members of the United States Congress have voted to opt out of the Medicare program. They are the only citizens in the country that can escape the rationing of care that is being done to senior citizens. Senator Ted Kennedy, 77 years old, gets to keep his Rolls Royce healthcare plan while Medicare patients see their access to care sometimes denied and most always delayed by long waits.

The very members of Congress who have passed legislation to curb rising healthcare costs by annual cuts to Medicare spending, have voted themselves out of participation in the increasingly underfunded and dysfunctional government run system.

About 75 percent of the money the president hopes to spend on community colleges will go toward creating grant programs for schools and states to test promising programs, ones that improve student learning, student completion rates, and schools' abilities to track their students' academic progress.

Experts say the $2.5 billion Obama hopes to spend revitalizing community colleges' infrastructure is vital for those schools' success in the future. Between the academic years that ended in 2002 and 2006, 2.3 million new students enrolled in community college courses, the largest number of new students since the 1960s. During the same period, two thirds of all state community colleges reported deferred maintenance needs, according to a 2007 survey by the University of Alabama's Education Policy Center.

It's beginning to sink in that Obama's nationalized healthcare will lead directly to rationing, which Americans desire about as much as a case of salmonella.

The president told five governors last month to avoid the term "rationing," since it might give away the game. But the word keeps popping up, so it was time for a more aggressive approach -- embracing it!

Out came one of the Left's big guns, Princeton ethicist Peter Singer, to fire away in the July 19 New York Times Magazine with a long article, "Why We Must Ration Health Care."

Singer -- known for such gems as, "The notion that human life is sacred just because it is human life is medieval," and "An animal experiment cannot be justifiable unless the experiment is so important that the use of a brain-damaged human would be justifiable" -- says rationing is already here in different forms. Big Nanny Democrats want to ration healthcare for everyone in America -- except those who break our immigration laws. Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment that would have prevented illegal aliens from using the so-called "public health insurance option." Every Democrat on the panel voted against the measure.

Nevada GOP Rep. Dean Heller's measure would have enforced income, eligibility and immigration verification screening on all Obamacare patients. Unlike most everything else stuffed into the House Democrats' plan, the citizenship vetting process would not have required building a new bureaucracy. Heller proposed using existing state and federal databases created years ago to root out entitlement fraud.


The flag that so many died for, disrespected---but let's give illegal/criminals everything!

If the congressional majority are truly committed to President Obama's quest to wring cost savings from the system, why won't they adopt the same anti-fraud checks imposed on other government health and welfare beneficiaries? Maybe an intrepid reporter could ask the president at his next Obamacare show to explain.

Isn't the point of the Democrats' push to reform the health care system based on establishing health care as a right? That's what the politicians say of course. But in reality the result will be the exact opposite.

Part of the problem is that most Americans don't understand what a right is. A right is not a guarantee that the government (i.e., other people) will provide you something for free. We have the right to engage in religious expression, but that doesn't mean that the government pays for the construction of the church. We have the right to peacefully assemble, but the government doesn't promise to supply your transportation. You have the right to keep and bear arms, but don't expect the government to provide you with a free firearm and bullets. You have the right to free speech, but the government won't grant you free radio or TV air time.

What makes something a right is not whether the government can force somebody else to pay for it. What defines something as a right is whether the government can or cannot prohibit you from doing it. (President Obama notoriously called these "negative liberties".) If the government can't stop you from doing it, then it's a right.

When candidate Obama was courting the “Jewish vote” he donned a yarmulke, went to the Wailing Wall in Israel, and said all the right things. He needn’t have bothered because the American Jewish community,estimated to be approximately 5.5 million, was largely in his pocket. They have voted overwhelmingly Democrat since the days of FDR.

This is, if you think about it, fairly astonishing because his middle name is Hussein, his birth father was a Muslim, and so was his Indonesian step-father who reportedly would take him on occasion to the mosque. It is even more astonishing because he was a member for twenty years in a church whose pastor was close friends with the notorious anti-Semite, the leader of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan.
Any American Jew paying any attention should surely have harbored some doubts and, six months into his presidency, a lot of American Jews are asking themselves what they were thinking when they voted for Obama.

On my postings since I first joined, I have spoken on my criminal background -& work as an advisor to the late Cesar Chavez on both coasts.My photo shows that I am a person of color. Once to the far left of Obama w/ an FBI record.
I have been in cars 100s of times w/ friends & coworkers where the drivers in NY were African-Americans & we all were drunk--- & not once, repeat not once pulled over by any police official & even when we were in an accident w/ the car turned upside down, the police never cited my friend who was driving w/ any traffic violation. Note too all 3 of us were drunk then too & all three former criminals.
When I worked w/ the United Farm Workers & Cesar Chavez in Calif. the drivers were usually our Chicano co-organizers & we traveled around Cali, Arizona , even to Mexico, & on off work hours again often were drinking--- not one pull over by city, county or state highway patrol.
I don't know of one friend or dozens of family members that were pulled over & profiled in the 100s of 1000s of miles that we've traveled.(Although my ex wife is a non-minority, the majority dated during my dating days were AAs-so no horror stories there either---I will add none that anyone ever brought up....in any of these scenarios...)
As a former supervisor of many years at the nation's largest street youth program; & later a 1000 bed homeless shelter when I had to often deal w/ police or asssess clients do I know of any police over reactions--- & when the police responded to either program they treated street people w/ the utmost tolerance & respect.
I will also point out that in my pre-college criminal days, I even have on my permanent criminal record- assault on a police officer, etc. & have not always been a police supporter.
This whole incident ---I will say most definitely has a clown in it...& you can guess who that is. Or who they are.

Let's review. Gates is a much-acclaimed Harvard professor of African American studies. And he is black.

Last Thursday, a concerned neighbor calls police and reports a potential break-in at Gates' home when she sees two men trying to wedge themselves into the front door. Though it was broad daylight, what are the police to do? Obviously investigate, which is what they quickly did. Had they ignored the call and there been a real break-in, presumably Gates would be protesting their inaction.

So the police show up and see a man -- Gates -- in the home. The officer knocks and as is standard procedure, asks for his ID, since again there was a call of a potential break-in...[more]....

Because I myself was exposed to the level of crime that male and female law enforcements officers are faced with on a daily basis, I think I may have more of an idea than you. Because I had to listen to my husband over a radio 50 miles away become nervous on a traffic stop in the middle of the night - I think I may have more of an idea than you. I've had to listen to the sound of my husband's voice after just being involved in a major accident because of a drunk driver and because of this I think I may have more of an idea than you. Every day that my husband goes to work he is putting his life on the line. He is putting the life that we have built together on the line to serve and protect innocent people from becoming innocent victims. Every night that he works I am unable to sleep and every morning he is expected to come home I pray that he does.

I am fortunate that my husband has worked with two agencies whose crime rates are not as high as others. But every time he makes an arrest he must drive through certain areas of Miami that I wouldn't see my worst enemy through.

Thirty-eight percent said they were conservative, while only 20% said they were liberal. Thirty-nine percent, meanwhile, said they were moderate.

The percentage of self-described conservatives has increased since President Barack Obama was inaugurated in January and the percentage of self-described liberals has diminished. A Washington Post poll conducted in mid-January, shortly before the inauguration, showed 32% saying they were conservative, 24% saying they were liberal and 42% saying they were moderates.

Thirty-three minutes into the discussion about his new book on Lincoln, Professor Gates began a detailed account of his own genealogy. Something tells me that if Mr. Isaacson had said that he also had sent his DNA off and found that to his "astonishment and horror" he was 57% black, no one would chuckle, least of all the Professor of African American Studies at Harvard, Dr. Gates.

By contrast, [P]MSNBC's take of this demo was unchanged in prime time and down seven percent in total daily viewers.

The liberal network's top personality Keith Olbermann saw his July demo numbers decline to their lowest level since December 2007 .

And another man fingered as the possible gunman was ordered held for 40 days as Mexican prosecutors seek homicide, smuggling, firearms and organized crime charges.

Salvador Picaso-Ambriz, 39, of Mexico, was arrested at O'Connor Hospital on Friday at the request of federal authorities, San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.

He appeared in federal court in San Jose on Monday morning and is being held in federal custody without bail, officials said.

ABC’s Ron Claiborne on Saturday managed to file a report on vast Democratic corruption in the state of New Jersey and, at the same time, not once use the word Democrat. While reporting on an unfolding scandal that saw the arrest of a number of the state’s mayors and assemblymen, all but one a member of the Democratic Party, the Good Morning America weekend news anchor completely ignored party identification.

Claiborne vaguely explained, "44 people indicted, including three mayors, two state legislators and five rabbis and allegations of money laundering, kickbacks and bribe taking." The journalist used the same tactic as he went on to highlight the history of corruption by New Jersey politicians: "Robert Torricelli left office in 2003, under the shadow of an illegal campaign contribution scandal. And Harrison Williams resigned his seat in 1982 while under indictment for bribery."

Claiborne added, "Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James is currently serving time after being convicted on federal corruption charges." What fact is absent from this description of New Jersey’s woes? All of the above are Democrats. He continued this list by highlighting another unidentified Democrat: "Hoboken Mayor Pete Cammarano took office three weeks ago. In a matter of days, he allegedly took a $25,000 bribe."

A conservative black pastor and activist is pleased that a white police officer in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has refused to apologize for arresting a black Harvard professor who he suspected of being a burglar. Jesse Lee Peterson believes President Obama was out of line for saying the white officer "acted stupidly."

Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and the police officer who arrested him have agreed to meet with President Obama at the White House on Thursday.

Sgt. James Crowley, who is white, arrested Gates, who is black, after an investigation into a suspected burglary found that Gates had locked himself out of his own house and had to force his way inside. The incident led to a heated exchange between the men at Gates' home.

Obama entered the fray when he said the police had "acted stupidly," and later said both sides had overreacted. During an impromptu appearance at the daily White House briefing, Obama told reporters, "I could've calibrated those words differently ."

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama must once again hit the pause button in his drive to overhaul health care to revisit the racially charged issue that stole the spotlight from his top legislative priority - the arrest of his Harvard professor friend.

Obama, Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley and Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr., will meet at the White House on Thursday, each one drinking his favorite beer, in a public attempt to move past the emotional event.

Obama convened the "beer summit" after calling both men last week in an attempt to defuse the political fallout from his comment at a news conference that police had "acted stupidly" in arresting Gates at his home after responding to a call from a passer-by about a possible break-in

He invited both men over for beer, to be served at a picnic table near his Oval Office if thunderstorms forecast for Thursday hold off.

Oops. Apparently Wal-Mart is not pleased with something one of its executives said about health care.

Wal-Mart recently announced its support for requiring large corporations to provide health insurance to their employees. But a Wal-Mart VP took things one step further last weekend while speaking on a health care panel at the annual conference of Latino group National Council of La Raza.

When asked the company’s position on health care for undocumented immigrants, John Agwunobi, who oversees Wal-Mart’s health and wellness business unit, responded, “We believe strongly that everyone should have access to affordable health insurance. Everyone.”

The comment earned him applause and appreciative whistles from the audience, but Wal-Mart was not so happy. After Chicago’s WBEZ reported the story, Wal-Mart made numerous calls to reporters and editors at the station, according to reporter Chip Mitchell.

The Providence Journal’s coverage of the assault on traditional marriage advocates in Warwick, Rhode Island on July 28 has consistently downplayed how pepper spray was used on the conservative protesters, in favor of how food was thrown at them.

ProJo.com’s Wednesday report on the attack ran with the headline, “Same-sex marriage protesters assaulted with food,” and didn’t mention the pepper spray until the second-to-last paragraph. The following morning, reporter Kate Branson used a more nuanced headline (“Update: 4 accused of hurling food at activists in Warwick”), but at least mentioned the pepper spray in the second paragraph.

The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property, also known as the American TFP, is a conservative Catholic group based in the central Pennsylvania town of Spring Grove, and supported by hundreds of thousands of donors all over the U.S. They are conducting a “traditional marriage crusade” in the northeastern states of New York, Rhode Island, and Maine. “Caravans” of their young volunteers are traveling across those three states, and stop at busy intersections, holding signs expressing their support of traditional marriage, which they believe to be a sacrament.

Stanley McChrystal's long-awaited reassessment of the war against Taliban insurgents aims for a transformation of the shaky relationship between U.S. forces and Afghan civilians as troops press a counterinsurgency strategy of clearing and holding populated areas, said officials apprised of the report's contents.

The biggest change urged in McChrystal's report is a "cultural shift" in how U.S. and foreign troops operate _ ranging from how they live and travel among the Afghan population to where and how they fight, a senior military official in Kabul said Friday.
