SO IF YOU TAKE A QUICK LOOK IN BLOGTOWNE & IT REGISTERS NO NEW ACTION SINCE SUCH & SUCH..THAT'S FREQUENTLY NOT THE CASE.

BEST THING IS TO CHECK BACK FROM TIME TO TIME.

Huckabee: Liberalism Cancer on Christianity

The New York Times Sunday Magazine is out with its profile of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

Here are some excerpts from "The Huckabee Factor":

Huckabee on Liberalism: "In fact, as he wrote in his book ‘‘Character Makes a Difference,’’ he considers liberalism to be a cancer on Christianity. Huckabee is an admirer of the late Jerry Falwell (whose son, Jerry Jr., recently endorsed his candidacy) and subscribes wholeheartedly to the principles of the Moral Majority."

http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/Huckabee_Liberalism_Cance/2007/12/16/57472.html

On this one I'll stay out of it and won't attack a type that I was prior to 9/11 a liberal Christian...
Won't repeat what Dr. Michael Savage says & is the title of his best selling book LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL DISORDER w/ my own rendition.
Just let Huck & Mike talk..speaking of Dr. Savage the NY Times also had a fairly balanced story in today's edition too:

Boycotted Radio Host Remains Unbowed
quote:

On Dec. 3 Mr. Savage fired back at his critics in a way Mr. Imus never did: He filed a lawsuit in United States District Court against the council, not only for taking his comments out of context — he says they were made within a broader discussion of the president of Iran — but for then making audio of them available on its Web site, cair.com.

I am glad to see Michael Savage sue, because CAIR a very tiny group magnified by the drive-bys is off base in their attacks against Dr. Savage's first amendment rights.
As many know by reading my intro in post # 1 I prevailed myself in a federal lawsuit while in college way back when in a media shutdown of my paper by college officials I fought back.
So although I didn't agree w/ what radio legend Don Imus said I also didn't agree w/ his firing.
Go Mike!

Holiday Torture - Christmasboarding Liberals

Would Jesus support war?
quote:

Consider these few words of Jesus.

… let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one.

The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," he replied.

Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Iran indicates it is building another nuclear plant

TEHRAN: Iran confirmed on Monday that it had received the first fuel shipment for its nuclear power plant at Bushehr, but also indicated for the first time that it was building a second nuclear power plant.

The revelation came in comments by Iran's Atomic Organization, Gholamreza Aghazadeh, made to state-run television and reported by the semi-official Fars news agency. He was dismissing speculation that the arrival of the fuel would allow Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program, in Natanz.

"We are building a 360-megawatt indigenous power plant in Darkhovein," he said, referring to a southern city north of Bushehr.

Entry into the U.S. is perceived to be relatively easy at the U.S./Mexico border. Thus, this is a main artery for this activity. Puerto Rico is another point of entry as there are only 23 U.S. Border Patrol agents for the entire island. Once individuals enter Puerto Rico, with fake paperwork, coming to the mainland is simple. This is a dangerous open back door to the U.S., and traffickers are taking notice.

Serial killers. Pimps. Gangs. Any one of the most vicious sexual offenders can prey upon illegal immigrant females coming into the States. Kidnapping these girls as they sneak across the southern U.S. border is relatively easy. Dumping the lifeless bodies in the desert is also easy, and without identification, solving the murders is extremely difficult.

MIKE EYES '08 TEAM
AIDES SOUND OUT ADVISERS FOR RUN
By MAGGIE HABERMAN

December 18, 2007 -- Mayor Bloomberg's aides have been reaching out to consultants from his past campaigns about whether they are free for a possible 2008 White House bid - including one who helped make his slick mayoral TV spots, The Post has learned.

The moves took place in the past few weeks, as the primaries for the Republican and Democratic presidential nominees are about to begin - and aides have suggested that he will wait and see who the nominees are before making a decision about an independent White House run.

Bloomberg aides reached out to people involved in ad-making - including one who had been involved in creating the mayor's vaunted TV spots - asking about their availability in the coming months, the sources said.

Mayor Mike is even more popular than was Rudy...he is a fantastic success story kinda rags to riches...Mayor Mike is bad news for Hillary as he'd likely attract those dems and independents that may have been inclined to vote for her or Obama in the generals.
A crime fighter, anti-terror, economic expert that as NY mayor speaks yearly at the UN has met world leaders both overseas & here in NYC & in doing such is 100xs the diplomat let's say that Rudy ever was.
Our mayor wouldn't have to take a dime from anyone & could criss cross the country faster than any other candidate as he has a jet and is an accomplished pilot.
I also think that if Hell-ary is the nominee Ralph Nader would jump in as he more or less hates her..the combination of the both might hand the WH to the GOP.
Mike would also attract a decent well known vp running mate..unlike that admiral Perot picked that wasn't even sure where he was at times

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is planning on keeping a contribution from a former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, according to a campaign spokesman.

Don Black, who runs the "Stormfront" website with the motto, "White Pride World Wide," recently donated $500 to Paul. Black is a South Florida resident, and is married to the ex-wife of former Louisiana legislator David Duke, himself a former Klansman.

"We like his stand on tight borders and opposition to a police state," Black told the Palm Beach Post.

DON'T GET STUCK....W/Out Your Holiday News From Brooklyn's Blurbs This Season

Congressional study shows illegal immigrants sap tax dollars
The Business Journal of Phoenix - by Ty Young Phoenix Business Journal

A study by the U.S. Congressional Budget Office released Tuesday backs up the view that undocumented immigrants sap more tax dollars than they provide, especially in education, health care and law enforcement.

The study pulled together reports from the past five years, using data from sources including the Pew Hispanic Center, the Rand Corp., the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and various universities. The Congressional study also incorporated facts from states, including Arizona, but its authors acknowledged there was no aggregate estimate that could be applied to the entire country.

The report says that in 1990, 90 percent of undocumented immigrants primarily were in six states: California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Texas.

Why We Must Fight the Misleading Language of Immigration

Mike Cutler

The term "illegal alien" had been universally used by INS employees until the presidency of Jimmy Carter. It was Carter's appointee for Commissioner of the old INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service), Lionel Castillo, who mandated that the term “illegal alien” be stricken from INS official vernacular. We were admonished never to use that term but to replace it, initially with the term "undocumented alien." Several months later, this was changed by INS headquarters, and we were instructed to use the term currently favored by open borders advocates, "undocumented workers." Out of frustration I began referring to such illegal aliens as "pre-citizens!"

Just about everyone with whom I worked at the INS was similarly angered by this mandate because Castillo’s (and Carter’s) deceptive use of language was reminiscent of George Orwell's "newspeak", introduced in his political novel "1984." As I recall, the creation of “newspeak” was to eliminate words so that you could eliminate thoughts, and thus alter perceptions of reality. Never forget that words have impact.

When President Bush's press secretary, Dana Perino, was quoted in a recent news article about the President's use of the term "illegal alien," she said, “I actually think that it's a legally defined term." She was on to something. The Immigration and Nationality Act - the body of laws that govern the entry and continuing presence of non-citizens in the US along with all relevant issues - defines an “alien” as simply any person who is not a citizen or a national of the United States. Consequently, an “alien” who is present in the United States in violation of law is, indeed, an “illegal alien.”

Celebrating Joy This Christmas Season
By Sam Brownback
CNSNews.com Commentary
December 20, 2007

"Joy to the World" sings the old Christmas carol. In a tiny manger, away from the seats of power and riches, a tiny baby was born to a virgin girl. And, miracle of miracles, it was God himself who had entered into the human story.

It is good to remember at this time of the year that the Christian understanding of joy is distinct from the pursuit of pleasure, something that has become a full-time avocation for all too many of us.

Many in my generation, the baby boomers, have pursued pleasure, and they've found it. But ultimately, we realize, mere pleasure does not satisfy the deepest yearnings of the soul.

BB1's Christmas Weekend Begins Tonight....We'll Be Checking In Though

Greetings CW Members:you may see me around less as God put on my heart to spend the bulk of Christmas w/ a younger friend that recently got out of prison for one of his several shoplifting felonies; he is in a structured halfway house & has visiting privileges for the holidays.

I've decided to have him stay w/ me, & tonight see what's sure to be an anointed Christmas Drama at David Wilkerson's Times Square Church. The church is a huge modern former Broadway theatre.

We'll use the aka Juan as it is not is real name as he has several state akas.
He's an African-American, used to be in the insurance business, sung in a choir as a youth & moving from quiet NJ to the Big Apple turned him into a partier, substance abuser and finally almost instantly addicted to crack/job gone.

He, like when I did crime (& same thing w/ all of my friends of color w/ records) was guilty every single time he/we got caught. So I kind of laugh when the liberals cry that too many of us are in jail or saddled w/ charges.

Juan's aware of my own drug dealing, carrying gun, assault on a police officer type record (all pre-college) & how the Lord miraculously gave me a judge that let me out once I was accepted into a community college direct from jail (w/no money, family far away,a high school drop out, w/ a record, and filing for release w/ out a lawyer.)

Tonight dear cw family I am praying that this Holy Spirit ordained drama will touch his heart from 7pm (TSC never starts late..until it wraps up by maybe 9-9:30..that we might see him at an altar.
AMEN?

Below is an excerpt of a personal email sent to my closest friends, former staff, family and many ministry friends:

quote:

These verses of holy scripture are so important at all times but seem to have a special meaning around Christmas..read them again if you will....w/ an open heart:

The Son of Man Will Judge the Nations

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy[a] angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Beloved, I've decided this Christmas to live out that scripture by having our old friend Juan being w/ me from Friday's Christmas Presentation @ Times Square Church*** until staying out in Brooklyn Sunday afternoon (then off to his mom's in NJ) & then part two: to join me for Christmas dinner in Manhattan. Maybe at a friends new restaurant in The Theatre District.

I am not violating his confidentiality as he knows many of you have prayed for him as he went in & out of prison and drug programs over the last few years. And one of you on the list met him by surprise when we were in NYC seeing the sites.

As a matter of fact ever since I've know him he's been mainly in jail every Thanksgiving and or Christmas.

He's also aware that I might introduce him to TSC members especially those who have similar backgrounds. Juan says he remembers several visits by TSC Prison Ministry while he was upstate.

I ask TSC members to keep an eye out for us as he may leave his current program & be at the church around 5:45-6 to grab us early seats before the 7pm Christmas program. Please come & say hello.

Also pray that he might be drawn to the altar..as I don't believe in twisting arms, amen?

So that's it.... waiting doctors consults Wed. afternoon & looking forward to a Matthew Christmas..unusual but what God has put on my heart.

May God Richly Bless You & We All Live Out The Scriptures In 08'

Love,
Rick

Congress cuts funding for Mexican trucks
But opponents believe Bush will find other ways to keep program rolling
Posted: December 22, 2007
1:00 a.m. Eastern

By Michael Howe

Congress has passed a bill that cuts funding for the controversial Mexican truck program, but lawmakers expect the Bush administration to keep the foreign vehicles rolling on American roads amid safety and security concerns.

Joe Kasper, spokesman for Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., told WND that "without federal funding, it will be difficult to continue the program. However, we must expect that the administration will continue looking for ways to do so."

The newly passed 2008 Consolidated Appropriations Act prohibits the Department of Transportation from using the funds in it "to establish a cross-border motor carrier demonstration program to allow Mexico-domiciled motor carriers to operate beyond the commercial zones along the international border between the United States and Mexico."

Ron Paul Flip Flops on Independent Run for President?

The Republican party's richest gadfly may be changing his mind about an independent run for the Presidency of the United States.

In the YouTube debate last month, Paul seemed firm in his commitment not to run as a third party candidate when he answered the question by saying he had "no intention" of running such a race.

But according to Jeralyn Merrit of Talk Left, he sang a different tune on NBC's Meet the Press today when he said that he hadn't ruled a third party run out.

Hiya, and welcome to another action-packed funniest news stories of the year, the 2007 edition.

I have to admit that every January, I go through a phase wondering what kind of hilarity will take place over the next 12 months. Somehow, almost magically, the world of the surreal never leaves me disappointed.

In fact, it was early February when I knew this year was going to be out-of-this-world funny – all thanks to a lovesick astronaut who allegedly drove across the country with adult diapers, eventually pepper-spraying another aviator over the affection of a male astronaut.

Ho!Ho!Ho!--Diapers; toilet paper squares; THE WIDE STANCE & other 07' Memories!

Brooklynsblessed1 will be hosting-- but still will update the news for those especially on the run w/ no time to read 5 newspapers or surf 10 tv stations for the news..hey, somedays we even beat the DRUDGE REPORT to breaking stories...You give us 22 minutes..we give you the world..off to church soon, check back though from time-to-time.

My Christmas Story - By Senator John McCain

As a POW, my captors would tie my arms behind my back and then loop the rope around my neck and ankles so that my head was pulled down between my knees. I was often left like that throughout the night.

One night, a guard came into my cell. He put his finger to his lips signalling for me to be quiet and then loosened my ropes to relieve my pain. The next morning, when his shift ended, the guard returned and retightened the ropes, never saying a word to me.

A month or so later, on Christmas Day, I was standing in the dirt courtyard, when I saw that same guard approach me. He walked up and stood silently next to me, not looking or smiling at me.

2007: A Loony-Left Year

The end of 2007 doesn’t seem half as depressing to the conservative faithful as it was in the beginning. Democrats captured the Congress, sure. But now it’s their approval ratings that are in the toilet, and worst still, their rabid leftist base has turned on them for not being rabidly leftist enough. The presidential front-runners are no longer inevitable, not even Hillary Clinton’s buy one-get-one-free ticket. The economy is fairly strong, regardless of the pessimistic media coverage. We’ve had another year without America being successfully attacked by terrorists. The surge is working.

All this good news is driving the Left nuts, and nowhere is this more evident than in the national media, which is making no attempt to shake off their collective gloom-and-doom tone.. As the good news began emanating from Iraq this fall, the McClatchy News Service, lauded by media leftists like Bill Moyers as having the smart reporters who always thought the Iraq War was a fight without a point, ran this headline:

“As Violence Falls in Iraq, Cemetery Workers Feel the Pinch.”

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus.

"DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except [what] they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Rejoice! America's Love for Troops Cannot be Blocked by the MSM
By Kyle-Anne Shiver

'Tis the season to be jolly and joyful, and one of my greatest personal joys this year has been corresponding with some of our soldiers on the front lines of America's defenses in Iraq and Afghanistan. In all my years of motherhood, I have never seen such a steady demonstration of courage, sound reason and deep passion emanating from any group of young people.

And as our own grown children would readily testify, I never give gratuitous praise; it's against my motherhood ethics.

Our soldiers seem to scorn the feelings of entitlement, so commonplace among our sheltered, pampered youth. Saying nothing about what they are due, their words are filled with gratitude and thanksgiving for the opportunity to serve a Nation they love. General George Washington quite surely smiles upon them from his heavenly observation post, as their own Gentleman-General Petraeus must likewise do every day on the ground.

Poll: Obama, Huckabee slipping among Iowa men

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Call it an early Christmas gift for Hillary Clinton’s campaign: A new Iowa poll seems to show the New York senator with a stunning double-digit lead over her nearest rival among likely Democratic caucus-goers.

Clinton and Obama were neck-and-neck in last week’s American Research Group poll. But in the new survey, conducted December 20-23, she leads the Illinois senator by 15 percentage points, 34 to 19 percent. Obama is now in a statistical tie for second place with former North Carolina senator John Edwards, who has 20 percent of the vote...............

As Hillary Clinton appears to be breaking away from the pack, the Republican race in Iowa may be tightening up. A week ago, an ARG poll placed Mike Huckabee over Mitt Romney by an 11-point margin among likely Republican caucus-goers, but the latest poll by the group puts the two back in a statistical tie, 23 to 21 percent. John McCain has 17 percent of the vote, Rudy Giuliani has 14 percent — and Ron Paul has 10 percent in the latest poll, up from 4 percent last week.

Biblical standards are under attack by the "[edit bb1]ized courts" of Canada, where activists who claim they have "hurt feelings" are demanding – and getting – penalties imposed against those who oppose the homosexual lifestyle, according to a family organization.

The description of the courts, also known as the provincial and national Human Rights Commissions, comes from the Canada Family Action Coalition, which has addressed the problem in an alert to its constituents, and warns the United States is not that far from having similar assaults on traditional family values.

"It has become apparent in the past month how badly the acts are written and how they are being misused to violate the rights of Canadians," the organization said.

By SADAQAT JAN and ZARAR KHAN, Associated Press Writers 8 minutes ago

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan - Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a suicide attack. Her death threw the campaign for critical Jan. 8 parliamentary elections into chaos and stoked fears of mass protests and violence across the nuclear-armed nation, an important U.S. ally in the war on terrorism.

At least 20 others were also killed in the attack on a campaign rally where the 54-year-old Bhutto had just spoken.

Her supporters erupted in anger and grief after her death, attacking police and burning tires and election campaign posters in several cities. At the hospital where she died, some smashed glass and wailed, chanting slogans against President Pervez Musharraf.

Benazir Bhutto was shot dead by a gunman today who then detonated a bomb killing himself and about 20 others.

The former prime minister of Pakistan tried to duck into a car as the man started shooting but was hit in the head and neck.

As guards opened fire the attacker detonated a device believed to have been packed with lead pellets. It caused carnage among the crowds of supporters who had gathered to see her.

May she RIP..she was a brave woman (o.k...corrupt most likely); but there will undoubtably be implications in the US elections as Rudy, John McCain,Richardson & Biden will be seen as having the most experience in dealings on the world stage w/ Rudy being the right kind of leader vs. terror. Who killed Benazir Bhutto? The main suspects
quote:

The main suspects in Benazir Bhutto’s assassination are the Pakistani and foreign Islamist militants who saw her as a heretic and an American stooge and had repeatedly threatened to kill her.

But fingers will also be pointed at Inter-Services Intelligence, the agency that has had close ties to the Islamists since the 1970s and has been used by successive Pakistani leaders to suppress political opposition.

Ms Bhutto narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in October, when a suicide bomber killed about 140 people at a rally in the port city of Karachi to welcome her back from eight years in exile.

Bhutto was first woman leader of Muslim nation in modern times

WASHINGTON – Benazir Bhutto, the leader of the political opposition in troubled Pakistan, led a life of political turmoil marked by the violent death of several other family members.

The U.S.-educated Bhutto, who served two terms as prime minister from 1988 through 1990 and again from 1993 through 1996, was the first woman to lead a Muslim nation in modern times.

The daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the leader of Pakistan from 1971 until 1977, she was educated at Harvard University and subsequently studied philosophy, political science and economics at the University of Oxford.

U.S. Checking al Qaeda Claim of Killing Bhutto

December 27, 2007 11:47 AM

Brian Ross, Richard Esposito & R. Schwartz Report:

While al Qaeda is considered by the U.S. to be a likely suspect in the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Banazir Bhutto, U.S. intelligence officials say they cannot confirm an initial claim of responsibility for the attack, supposedly from an al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan.

An obscure Italian Web site said Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, al Qaeda's commander in Afghanistan, told its reporter in a phone call, "We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat [the] mujahedeen."

It said the decision to assassinate Bhutto was made by al Qaeda's No. 2 leader, Ayman al Zawahri in October. Before joining Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan, Zawahri was imprisoned in Egypt for his role in the assassination of then-Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

Bill Clinton was our first Boomer Left President. I've had my disagreements with Ron Paul – and they are big ones.

He and his supporters seem to think America can, in 2008, decide we just don't want to be involved with determined foreign enemies who have sought to destroy the U.S. since it became a nation. He and his supporters seem to think that America itself is to blame for creating its enemies because of its own interventionist meddling.

Gertz interviewed Marine Corps Cpl David Goldich, a veteran of two tours in Iraq and 300 combat patrols about the effect of the Democrat's anti-war antics on troop morale at the front. Gertz wrote that Cpl. Goldich,

stated in a candid account that negative comments by Democrats had "a dramatic effect on morale, especially on troops who are otherwise indifferent and disdainful of politics in general."

"I cannot tell you how many times I have overheard Marines and soldiers talking about various inconsiderate comments made from the likes of [Sen.] John Kerry [Massachusetts Democrat], [Rep. John P.] Murtha [Pennsylvania Democrat], [Senate Majority Leader Harry] Reid [Nevada Democrat], and [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi [California Democrat] about how we cannot win, how we should be brought home, etc.,"

THE BHUTTO ASSASSINATION: NOT WHAT SHE SEEMED TO BE

By RALPH PETERS

December 28, 2007 -- FOR the next several days, you're going to read and hear a great deal of pious nonsense in the wake of the assassination of Pakistan's former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto.

Her country's better off without her. She may serve Pakistan better after her death than she did in life.

We need have no sympathy with her Islamist assassin and the extremists behind him to recognize that Bhutto was corrupt, divisive, dishonest and utterly devoid of genuine concern for her country.

A SAFER CITY

December 30, 2007 -- When it comes to crime in New York City, the good news keeps on coming.

With only two days to go, the city is on pace to mark fewer than 500 murders this year. That's the lowest number since the city started keeping records - in 1963.

It's a remarkable achievement by any standard, and credit redounds to Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, who (see below) are hardly giving up the fight.

Edwards surges, Huckabee's bubble bursts***SUN. WOW NEWS!***
By Steven Thomma | McClatchy Newspapers

DES MOINES, Iowa — John Edwards has clawed his way into contention to win Iowa's caucuses on Thursday in the first vote for the Democratic presidential nomination, gaining strength even as rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have lost ground, according to a new McClatchy-MSNBC poll.

At the same time, Mitt Romney has regained the lead among Iowa Republicans as Mike Huckabee has lost momentum and support, even among the evangelical Christians who had propelled him into the top spot just weeks ago.

Taken together, this first poll in Iowa since campaigning resumed after a Christmas break showed a dead-heat contest between the three leading Democratic candidates and a volatile clash between the two top Republican rivals here.

Bloomberg Moves Closer to Running for President***NYT HOT OFF THE PRESS***
I was off & on w/ Mayor Mike..he's been getting daily lessons here in NYC for quite some time on intl. affairs and learning languages, etc...he could hit the ground running-wouldn't need to raise literally a dime, attract a well known VP & pull votes mainly from the dems...causing loss in a couple/few states. He also wouldn't get in it if in his mind he couldn't somehow win...stay posted.
PS-This story just came out after I posted the one above hours back.
PSS-My on & off comment doesn't mean I'd vote for Bloomy..today I couldn't vote for any of our well known office holders from US Senators, to Gov. to NYC Mayor. However both NYC mayors are excellent executives,had/have fine cabinets, have many innovative ways of doing things, are the best mayoral crime & terror fighters in the USA & are UN speakers and have many intl. contacts & trips under their belts. They also deal/dealt w/ perhaps the toughest press corps in the world.
If Bloomberg announced today he'd immeadiately poll above Richardson, Dodd,Biden,Thompson,Hunter,Keyes & Paul..stay tuned.
And unlike Nader (who may be the 4th candidate if Hillary wins), would likely be the 3rd person in the General Election debates.

World Welcomes New Year With Fireworks

Monday, December 31, 2007 10:35 PM

A million revelers cheered fireworks in Sydney. Summer Olympics organizers hosted dance and music in Beijing. And rare celebrations resounded in war-torn Baghdad. Across the globe, people gathered for parties, shot off fireworks and held out hopes for a peaceful and prosperous 2008. But reminders of violence were apparent as security was tightened in many nations.

Fireworks were canceled in downtown Brussels, Belgium, where police last week detained 14 people suspected of plotting to help an accused al-Qaida militant break out of jail.

Festivities in Paris centered on the famous Champs-Elysees avenue and the Eiffel Tower, where about 4,500 police and 140 rescue officials patrolled the streets.

NYT Editorial Accuses American Soldiers of War Crimes
quote:

In what looks like an editorial authored by one of the more extreme members of the Democratic Underground, the New York Times ended the year with a rabid leftwing rant that among other things accused American soldiers of war crimes on a large scale:

In the years since 9/11, we have seen American soldiers abuse, sexually humiliate, torment and murder prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq. A few have been punished, but their leaders have never been called to account. We have seen mercenaries gun down Iraqi civilians with no fear of prosecution. We have seen the president, sworn to defend the Constitution, turn his powers on his own citizens, authorizing the intelligence agencies to spy on Americans, wiretapping phones and intercepting international e-mail messages without a warrant.

If you think these assertions are outrageous, the Times' editorialist was only getting warmed up: (Click link above)

LOS ANGELES — Poor Joe Biden.

On paper, you could make the case that he’s the most experienced and capable candidate in the race for the White House. He is running for president after 24 years in the United States Senate, not the 24 months Barack Obama spent there before deciding to become a candidate.

In the wake of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, he was really the only candidate to offer a comprehensive and thoughtful response that connected the crisis in Pakistan with the short shrift we have given to Afghanistan and the fight against Al Qaeda there, which in turn encourages extremists and extremism across the border. Sounds right.

Although I was a life long leftist & usually voted dem prior to 9/11..I can't vote for any dems on the natl. & NY scene..but Biden would be qualified to be President..the best he might get if Clinton won would be Sec. of State.

The State of Jihad: 2007***NEW***
By Bill RoggioJanuary 1, 2008 2:10 PM

The US and her allies in Europe, the Middle East, and beyond have witnessed both stunning successes and dramatic setbacks in the Long War during 2007. Pakistan has continued its slide towards a failed state, with the government having relinquished control over additional territory to the Taliban and, thus, al Qaeda. Suicide bombings and attacks on all segments of the state plagued Pakistan as the Taliban and al Qaeda cemented their new safe havens. Iraq, which seemed all but lost at the end of 2006 as the US appeared to lose the all-important political will, has turned around with the change in counterinsurgency plan and the surge of troops US and Iraqi troops. Al Qaeda and the Iranian-backed Shia terrorists are losing ground and local support in Iraq. Afghanistan has seen its worst year of violence since the Taliban was defeated in late 2001; suicide bombings and IED attacks skyrocketed due to the problems in Pakistan.

The war also continues in dozens of lesser theaters. India suffered numerous blows from Pakistani-based terrorists. Al Qaeda has revitalized itself in Algeria and greater northern Africa. A brutal insurgency is being waged in Somalia after the Islamic Courts was ousted at the end of 2006. The Philippines saw some progress against Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah in the southern provinces. Thailand's Islamist insurgency ballooned in 2007. Al Qaeda is attempting to revive the jihad in Chechnya and the greater Caucasus. Saudi Arabia and Yemen continue to breed the next generation of al Qaeda fighters.

Rasmussen: Republican identity jumps to two year high
Rick Moran

According to pollster Rasmussen, the number of Americans who identify themselves as Republican has risen to a two year high:

The number of Americans who consider themselves to be Republicans jumped nearly two percentage points in December to 34.2%. That’s the largest market share for the Republican brand in nearly two years, since January 2006 (see history from January 2004 to present).

At the same time, the number of Democrats fell to 36.3%. That’s down a point compared to a month ago. During 2007, the number of Democrats has ranged from a low of 35.9% in July to a high of 37.8% in February.

As Huckabee Pulls Ad, Rollins, For Once, Must Pull a Punch

By Sridhar Pappu
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, January 2, 2008; C01

DES MOINES -- "The negatives feel good," says Ed Rollins, the onetime wunderkind of the Reagan White House and now, at 64, the national campaign chairman for upstart Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. "It's like being a boxer when you're young. To me, hitting somebody, knocking somebody down, is a great feeling. Firing out a negative ad just feels amazing."

But this time, the blow did not land exactly as intended. It is New Year's Eve and Rollins is sitting in a bar area in the Wakonda Club, slightly slouched in his chair, wearing a gray suit. Just hours earlier, Huckabee had stunned reporters expecting the launch of a hard-hitting TV ad attacking Mitt Romney; instead, he pulled the spot crafted by Rollins.

Surrounded by placards declaring "Enough Is Enough," Huckabee showed the ad he said he wasn't going to run, leaving reporters scrambling to determine whether this was a planned maneuver, an act of bad timing or something lifted from a Capra movie. "I just realized that this is not how we run our campaign in this state," the candidate said. "We've gotten here by being positive." All that was missing was Zuzu's petals.

INTELLECTUAL CONSERVATIVE: Predicting the 2008 Republican Presidential Primary Nominee
quote:

I predict Giuliani will ultimately get the nomination because his association with 9-11 brings out the same kind of emotions from social conservatives that social conservative values bring out in them. Both types of feelings come from the mom and dad, apple pie and American flag sentiment. The power of emotional patriotic feelings cannot be underestimated. The terrorist threat has never left, and with the ever increasing media coverage on cable and the internet, every terrorist incident around the world is well-covered. Most conservatives see a link between Al Qaeda and Iraq. As long as the U.S. is in Iraq and our troops are being killed, they feel the pressure of terrorism. With terrorism and Iraq as the defining issue of the election, Giuliani has the edge, because no one worries that Giuliani might go soft on terrorism. Huckabee will probably take Iowa, and Romney will take New Hampshire, but Huckabee will likely fade soon afterwards like Howard Dean. Romney will take New Hampshire, but Giuliani will prevail in later primaries like Bill Clinton and go on to win the Republican nomination.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was praised in the wake of the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto for demonstrating her command of the players and the issues at stake in Pakistan, even as another candidate, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, was criticized for stumbling over details.

But in two confident television appearances, on CNN and ABC, Clinton made an elementary error about Pakistani politics: She described President Pervez Musharraf as a "candidate" who would be "on the ballot."

In fact, Musharraf was reelected to the presidency in October. The upcoming elections are for parliament, and while Musharraf's party will be facing off against opposition parties, the president himself is not a candidate.

New probe urged for Hillary crimes
Charges that if FEC rejects, agency will have 'aided and abetted' in felony
Posted: January 1, 2008
9:35 p.m. Eastern

The top donor to Sen. Hillary Clinton's 2000 campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission asking the agency to re-open an investigation into illegal contributions and to probe alleged continuing violations of the law by the Democratic presidential candidate.

The complaint by business mogul Peter Franklin Paul also asserts the Clinton campaign's 2005 conciliation agreement with the FEC – in which a finance aide was fined $35,000 – effectively let Clinton and other top aides off the hook.

Paul says that unless the FEC sets aside the agreement and rescinds immunity granted the senator, the agency itself will "have aided and abetted in the commission" of a felony.

ABC's Cuomo Again Frets About Racist American Voters
Photo of Scott Whitlock.
By Scott Whitlock | January 2, 2008 - 12:15 ET

For the second time in less than a month, "Good Morning America" co-host Chris Cuomo asked a Democratic presidential candidate to speculate about the inherent racism of American voters. Talking with John Edwards on Wednesday's edition of the program, the ABC journalist wondered about Thursday's Iowa caucus. He inquired, "When you think people get into the room, do you think race or gender may play an unspoken role in the caucus voting?"

Clearly, this is a topic that weighs heavily on Cuomo. On December 20, he spoke to Senator Barack Obama and asked, "What do you think the bigger obstacle is for you in becoming president, the Clinton campaign machine or America's inherent racists, racism?" In fact, GMA has a long history of harping on how bigoted America is. Since November 13, 2006, "Good Morning America" has featured the question, in some form or another, a total of five times.

With the recent Senate inquiry into the finances of six high-profile televangelists, along with allegations of financial mismanagement at Oral Roberts University, watchdog groups such ad MinistryWatch are stepping up efforts to inform and educate potential charitable donors. MinistryWatch grades thousands of Christian ministries and non-profits, and posts on its website -- for potential donors to view -- material such as report cards dealing with those organizations.

Rod Pitzer with MinistryWatch says potential donors should look at the transparency of a ministry's finances, the truthfulness of its claims, the organization's track record, and any red-flag issues. "There [are] so many good organizations out there," he says. "The vast majority, hundreds and thousands of organizations out there [are good]. Grueling, Bruising Finish to Iowa Campaigning

Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Edwards closed out a long, grueling Iowa caucus campaign Wednesday night with statewide television appeals, each seeking an early triumph in the race for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Leading Republicans exchanged routine unpleasantries on a final day of campaigning.

"You just don't know what is going to happen," confessed Mitt Romney, unwilling to forecast success over Republican rival Mike Huckabee in Thursday's first contest of the race for the White House.

"This country is ready for a leader who will bring us together," Obama said in a two-minute commercial televised at the dinner hour. A first-term Illinois senator seeking to become the nation's first black president, he added, "That's the only way we're going to win this election. And that's how we'll actually fix health care, make college affordable, become energy independent and end this war."

DES MOINES, Iowa – Several Republican officials close to Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign said they expect the candidate will drop out of the race within days if he finishes poorly in Thursday’s Iowa caucus.

Thompson’s campaign, which last spring and summer was generating fevered anticipation in the media and with some Republican activists, has never ignited nationally, and there are no signs of a late spark happening here in Iowa, where even a third-place finish is far from assured.

This reality—combined with a fundraising drought—left well-connected friends and advisers of Thompson Wednesday evening predicting that he will pull the plug on hype and hope before the Jan. 8 New Hampshire primary.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio Backs Mitt Romney: An Endorsement That Might Matter
By Mike Bates
Jan 2, 2008

Do celebrity endorsements make much of a difference in elections? Barack Obama’s assistance from the unelected queen of the world, Oprah Winfrey, suggests maybe not, at least not in the way you’d expect. A poll found that one in three young New Hampshire women were less likely to vote for the clean, smart and articulate Obama because of the Oprah endorsement. One –sixth of women over age 65 said their opinion of the senator diminished as a result of Ms. Winfrey’s support.

Perhaps there’s hope for the Republic after all. Not that politicians are likely to discourage endorsements from some of the only folks with egos as colossal as their own.

At times we can tell a lot about a candidate by the celebrities backing him or her. Barbra Streisand endorsed Hillary Clinton, saying “Madame President of the United States . . . it’s an extraordinary thought.” No, Babs, what’s truly extraordinary is that you even imagine having what passes as a thought. This is the woman who’s claimed her absolute biggest nightmare is getting sick, getting taken to a hospital, and dying while hospital staff conjectures if their patient is indeed the Barbra Streisand.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Don't forget about Wyoming. It's been overlooked in the hoopla surrounding Thursday's Iowa caucuses and next week's New Hampshire primary, but Wyoming Republicans will caucus Saturday and choose delegates to the national convention in September.

Candidates have paid little attention to the state, though.

Only Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter have passed through since September.

Why Iowa? And what's a caucus, anyway?

By Mark Z. Barabak, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
2:08 PM PST, January 2, 2008
Thursday night about 200,000 Iowans, give or take, will begin the process of selecting the 2008 presidential nominees. That number barely surpasses the population of Glendale, but the results will have enormous impact. The Iowa caucuses have been closely watched since 1972, when George McGovern's strong performance helped him shoulder past his better-known rivals and win the Democratic nomination. For years, politicians in places like California have griped about Iowa's outsized role. But the state has only gained import, to the point where candidates shattered records in 2007 with their campaign spending and wall-to-wall TV advertising.

Why does Iowa go first?

Because for years no one much cared. Iowa has been holding some form of caucuses since the early 1800s. (The word caucus is Native American in origin, referring to a gathering of tribal chiefs). After McGovern's surprise showing, another long-shot candidate, Jimmy Carter, used the 1976 Iowa caucuses as a springboard to the White House. Other candidates began coming to Iowa seeking a similar breakthrough. A tradition was established and once that happened, few wanted to alienate Iowa voters by challenging the state's privileged status. Eventually, Iowa and New Hampshire, which holds the first primary, reached an accord that cemented their one-two placement on the nominating calendar, which has been recognized by the national political parties and, more importantly, those seeking the White House.

What is a caucus?

It's a gathering of voters at the precinct level. There are 1,781 precincts in Iowa's 99 counties. A caucus can be held in a community center, at a fire station, a library conference room, or somebody's living room.

Obama Will Get Richardson’s Second-Choice Votes

By John Harwood

Barack Obama’s drive to win tonight’s Iowa caucuses is getting a boost from two of his putative rivals. After earlier winning the support of Dennis Kucinich, Obama’s campaign has reached an agreement with Bill Richardson for the second-choice votes of Richardson supporters in caucuses where the New Mexico governor can’t clear the threshold for competition, according to a senior Obama campaign adviser. The adviser estimated that the deal puts Mr. Obama in position to claim support from roughly half of the 15 percent of Democratic caucus-goers expected to support second-tier candidates.

In return, the Obama adviser said, Obama forces will lend support to Mr. Richardson at caucuses where Mr. Obama turns out more backers than he needs to win any additional delegates. Mr. Richardson drew 6 percent of the vote in the most recent Des Moines Register Poll, trailing Mr. Obama’s 32 percent, Hillary Clinton’s 25 percent and John Edwards’ 24 percent.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa pastors who support Republican Mike Huckabee for president have received letters warning them that getting involved in politics could endanger the tax-exempt status of their churches.

Several pastors who have publicly backed Huckabee, a Southern Baptist minister who has support from many evangelicals, said they have received the letters, which have no return address. They have arrived in the weeks leading to Thursday's precinct caucuses.

Two letters were sent to the Rev. Brad Sherman, of Solid Rock Christian Church in Coralville. The first arrived a couple weeks ago and warned that he could be prosecuted for his support of Huckabee.

By Scott Whitlock | January 3, 2008 - 12:08 ET

For the second day in a row, and the sixth time in less than a year and a half, a "Good Morning America" anchor speculated on whether Senator Barack Obama can overcome racism in his presidential bid. During a particularly fawning interview on Thursday's program, host Diane Sawyer referenced a quote from the senator on the subject and hypothesized that, in a white state like Iowa, "people have shown they are willing to look beyond race in this country. Has that victory been won, whatever happens tonight?"

On Wednesday, GMA co-host Chris Cuomo posed the same question to fellow Democrat John Edwards. He asked the presidential aspirant about the nature of Iowa voters, theorizing, "When you think people get into the room, do you think race or gender may play an unspoken role in the caucus voting?" Cuomo, back on December 20, 2007, fretted over whether Obama could overcome "America's inherent...racism." Sawyer herself once asked the Illinois senator if America is "secretly...more racist or more sexist"

Eight polls have been released for the Iowa caucuses within the past week. For the Democrats, four of those polls show Hillary Clinton ahead, two show Barack Obama in the lead, one has John Edwards on top, and one shows a tie between Edwards and Obama with Clinton a point behind.

Among Republicans, four of the last seven polls show Mike Huckabee ahead while three show Mitt Romney in the lead. Four show Fred Thompson in third place while three award that spot to John McCain. But, five of the seven show McCain and Thompson within three points of each other.

Huckabee Takes Iowa; Romney in 2nd
Former Arkansas Governor Rides Momentum Surge to Early Victory

ABC News projects that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will be the winner of the Iowa caucuses, beating out former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the two-man race for the Republican party's top spot in Iowa.

Republicans expected an estimated 90,000 Iowans — about the population of Billings, Mont. — to turn out to begin the process of steering the party toward a candidate. Many of those Iowa Republicans are more conservative by party standards.

The two GOP front-runners had been fairly clear going into tonight with — especially in recent days — an ugly slug fest with critical implications for each candidate's campaign.

OBAMA PROJECTED WINNER..

Wickipedia: BARACK OBAMA
quote:

Barack Hussein Obama (pronounced /bəˈrɑːk huːˈseɪn oʊˈbɑːmə/[1]) (born August 4, 1961) is the junior United States Senator from Illinois and a leading candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 presidential election.[2][3] He is the fifth African American Senator in U.S. history, and the only African American currently serving in the U.S. Senate.[4]

Born in Honolulu to a Kenyan father and an American mother, Obama grew up in culturally diverse surroundings. He lived most of his early life in the Pacific island U.S. state of Hawaii and spent four of his pre-teen years in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta. A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Obama worked as a community organizer, university lecturer, and civil rights lawyer before running for public office. He served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004, launching his campaign for U.S. Senate in 2003.

Obama delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention while still an Illinois state legislator. He went on to win election to the U.S. Senate in November 2004 with a landslide 70% of the vote in an election year marked by Republican gains.[5][6] As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, Obama co-sponsored the enactment of conventional weapons control and transparency legislation, and made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In the 110th Congress, he has sponsored legislation on lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel.

^^^That speech was one of the best I've heard in years; of the caliber of Reagan & Mario Cuomo..

Obama turns back Clinton in Iowa
Huckabee defeats Romney to win among Republicans

DES MOINES, Iowa - Sen. Barack Obama, campaigning to be the first black president in American history, won the Iowa caucuses Thursday night, barely turning back rivals Hillary Clinton and John Edwards in the beginning test of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

On the Republican side, Mi ke Huckabee, a Baptist preacher turned politician, rode a wave of support from evangelical Christians to victory over Mitt Romney.

Huckabee handily defeated the former Massachusetts governor despite being outspent by tens of millions of dollars, and deciding in the campaign's final days to scrap television commercials that would have assailed Romney.

Both of these men @ one time had many thinking they might make it to VP..if Romney can't carry his neighboring NH he's toast-McCain is surging there.

Same w/ Clinton more or less. Obama brought out more youth vote than in last Iowa caucuses...he could mobilize a huge grassroots army if the nominee.

If Hil is not coronated you likely will not see a Nader run.

Rudy's wait until Fla. strategy was stupid. More later. BB1

Religious voters help Huckabee; young favor Obama

By MIKE MOKRZYCKI
Thursday, January 3, 2008 8:42 PM CST

Evangelical Christians and those who want a candidate to share their religious beliefs vaulted Mike Huckabee to victory and rejected Mitt Romney in Iowa's Republican caucuses Thursday night, a survey of early arrivals found.

In the Democratic contest, young voters turned out in big numbers and heavily favored Barack Obama, who also won many votes for his message of change. Older voters and people who gave high priority to a candidate's experience backed Hillary Rodham Clinton. John Edwards scored on empathy and electability.

Born-again or evangelical Christians comprised six in 10 Republican caucus-goers and nearly half of them favored Huckabee, according to preliminary results of entrance polls conducted for The Associated Press and the television networks. Only one in five favored Romney, who has been viewed skeptically by some religious voters.
