It's A Wonderful Life("Look Daddy! Teacher says everytime a bell rings, an angel gets its wings")
Bad theology - great movie
Miracle on 32nd Street ("I believe. I believe")
Natalie Wood was fantastic and I love Ms. O'Hara as well.

Its just so quircky. The female lead is so funny and yet at the same time rather tragic.

Alice Brady is the lead. It's on my list of movies to see, but I haven't yet.

That's right! I remember seeing the credits and it reminded me of the Brady Bunch, even though their maid was Alice Nelson.

I am pretty sure Rear Window is in color. It is an excellent movie, but not for this thread, I guess.

I just saw Rear Window for the first time last week, and it is in black/white, or at least this version was. It was a good movie, but not one of my favorites.

I am just starting to watch the TMC channel on occasion and have seen a few good ones. But I suppose Citizen Kane is still my fave, because of the unique screenshots/closeups/pans/shadows that you can really accentuate with b/w.

I did see The Secret Garden a few weeks back, and liked it, especially the little boy who lived down the road. He had a strange name and unique face. What was it?

The vocabularies of people sure have changed over the last century. Pardon me, but I am fascinated how when in some of these movies it calls for one character to say "go take a hike" to another, they do it so...smartly, and genteel-ly. Maybe that's not a word, but I was brought up inside recent-history grammar.

stellaluna -> RE: What is your favorite old time black and white movie? (5/6/2008 10:19:05 AM)

I like nearly anything with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn, particularly "Desk Set."

Anyone remember "Life With Father?" I really like that one.

MSnurse -> RE: What is your favorite old time black and white movie? (5/9/2008 12:08:09 PM)

Miracle on 34th street and It's a Wonderful Life.

ajlewis -> RE: What is your favorite old time black and white movie? (5/12/2008 4:38:00 PM)

There are a few; most with Cary Grant. But my favorite would probably be The Body Snatcher - the old Boris Karoff one. Its a real creepy morality tale; one of Karloff's best. It leaves much to the imagination of the viewer and the ending is straight out of the twilight zone.

What is your favorite old time black and white movie?

There are so many good ones there is no way I could list them all, nor could I pick just one.

Failsafe with Henry Fonda was great. So was My Darling Clementine and 12 Angry Men, also with HF. Inherit The Wind with Spencer Tracy. The original Frankenstein with Boris Karloff.

There is no way I can just pick one favorite.

amyk -> RE: What is your favorite old time black and white movie? (5/17/2008 3:16:06 PM)

This is strange - I just looked up Rear Window and found, at least based on a movie poster for it, it is in Tehnicolor. So I don't know if they would have released it also in B and W or why someone on here said they just watched it and it was B and W.

Also, I am pretty sure Desk Set is in color as well - but another great movie! I sure never went to any office Christmas parties as wild as theirs is at their office building!
