Hence why I quit going to nail parlours run by all Asians. I have no problem with them doing the work, I have a problem with them speaking their native tongue in the presence of those who don't. It is very uncomfortable and rude.

Why? They're not talking to you. Is there some reason you feel you should be allowed to listen in on other people's conversations?

Why and or how it is it appropriate to have a private conversation in front of a client?

Never bothered me. Would it bother you if they had a private conversation in English? So, it really isn't that you don't like parlors run by Asians, you don't like parlors where the folks have private conversations in front of you. Therefore, if the lady was Asian but did not talk to her fellow stylists in front of you, you'd be ok with it?

People can have private conversations all they want, but for all we know they could be talking about the clients, bad mouthing them, and then laughing at the ignorance of the client who smiles and nods in an effort to be friendly.

And don't say, "Oh why would you think that?" Because I KNOW it happens. Friends of mine who are VERY caucasion have gone to parlours like that and made sure to let the owners know that they will NOT be returning and this is why.

If a conversation is THAT personal then it really doesn't need to be had in front of mixed company to begin with. PERIOD. It's rude and a wonderful way to create unnecessary uneasiness in those around you.

In my former life ... aka before I rededicated to Christ.... I had a lot of conversations in Spanish in front of people who didn't understand ... bet your bottom dollar I was talking about them not about anything else.

Is everyone doing that? Of course not but why give that impression to a client?

At the parlor where I go to (very rarely) they might exchange a few sentences, but not what I would call whole conversations. I've never been worried they were talking about me. I guess it's a personal thing.

It's actually an etiquette thing but whatever. *shrug*

Closed for a time out and a clean up.

Calling other posters liars is a TOS, but it does not have to be out-right to be a TOS.

If you cannot post in this thread without hinting (broadly or not) that those who do not agree with you are not being truthful, please stop posting in this thread so I do not have to mop up the mess you leave and tell you not to post in it.
