ORIGINAL: sj3339sta Ok, for real, I'm ready to disown my family. They are driving me insane!!!!!! They actually researched on the internet a particular friend of mine that happens to be a guy. They e-mailed him today and invited him to a family cook-out and get together. Apparently', they think he is "the one." I'm soooooooooooo angry right now. Hmmm....I guess we're all different. I'd actually like for my family to do something like that...instead I get, "no, he's not it."..."Nope, he's not it either." "no." "no" "no"........sigh. No wonder I'm still single. lol Well, I don't know your family nor you, but they're not doing it to be ugly about it are they? Doesn't seem like they are...I think they might think they are doing you a service. Instead of disowning them (although I don't think you'll do that), why not do a straight up talk why you don't want them doing those things????

Ha Ha Shilo.... In all honesty, this is just the most recent of attempts by my family to get me "married off." I have to say, they are lucky that I am such good friends with this guy, otherwise I'm sure I could have lost a new friend over it. After my baseball game last night, I talked to my mom. She went into her normal song and dance about how she thinks I'm so miserable and how it does not even seem like I'm trying to meet new people. Little does she know how much I do want the same thing she does and how her and other family who seem to want to help make things happen actually are hindering the process. I'm not going to disown them, obviously. But they are also never going to hear the name of a guy come out of my mouth again until I'm close to getting a ring.

sj, at least it's a good guy friend and not a total stranger...just think how awkward it would be if they decided to set you up on a blind date with your mother's friend's son or something.

"I couldn't imagine being single at age X." (Well consider yourself lucky. You just have to imagine it; I have to live it.) "Not everyone gets married." or "You might not ever get married." (You sure know how to brighten a person's day.) "I know someone who didn't get married until [age 40 or older]" ( )

I let my family... well, my parents, know a long time ago that I didn't need them helping me with this. After I asked them to name some women they thought I'd be good with a few years ago I said, ehh, nevermind, hehe. Well, the good thing is that at least they mean well. I am sure it's not like you can't find a guy for yourself, it's just that they are wanting to take part in a good thing in your life. Yeah, going about it this way is nuts and quite rude, I have to say, but, still. :)

Hey, in my opinion you are doing a good thing by being friends with the guy. That's my approach from here on out. Being a good friend/brother in Christ to female sisters in Christ. You can't lose with this attitude!

SJ, I had a coworker who decided she'd help me out (think she perceived I didn't know how to flirt or whatever) that decided to wait until I went to the restroom to come to my computer and send short little emails to a guy we worked with. She even took something off of his desk, sent him an email about it being missed as if I had taken it! We're all in our 40's and I didn't find it amusing! Thankfully, he understood that it was ALL her and was able to see some humor in it! People do things like this trying to "help", without understanding the line they're crossing.

"Marriage takes a lot of hard work." (That I don't dispute, but being single takes a lot of hard work too. In fact, some might argue that being single takes more work than being married.)

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a man of great fortune is in need of a wife"- the first sentence in Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. Lets rephrase to create a single cliche: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single person is ALWAYS in need of a partner/wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend" (People just assume that because you are single, attractive and young (in my case) that you really need and want someone)

I've been married, widowed, married again, divorced. No one has ever said any of these things to me, oh wait there was that time when I may have mentioned being widowed was difficult and a lady I didn't even know said,' oh don't give me that, my sister is widowed and she has so much fun and freedom!' Whoopee for her!! I find myself wanting to put myself in situations where people say those things to me so I can use some of the great comebacks I've read here!!

Man: "You can't have (insert name of said man's wife), she's already taken." (said jokingly, but sometimes I wonder) (If I didn't have a car, I certainly wouldn't steal one, the same applies for others wives.)

I think those of you with families trying to help in a search for a mate for you and you complaining are spoiled. A great blessing right there in front of you and you spit on it. Just what I think. Know it can be frustrating with your family but try not having a family for that to care about, or a Church that cares, or "friends" who care and you are way past the cute stage of being single and people do not even want you near their children because there must be something wrong with you.

Boy this thread has had a long run. Here are some of mine. "Your'e to picky." from friends who are divorced. "She will make some one a great wife." Okay, you marry her. "You are not getting any older." And the alternative to getting older is ........ "God is going to bring you a wife." Did you ever think that I did not want to marry in the first place. "God told me that you will be my husband." Gee, I didn't get the memo. "Grow up, stop being selfish, get married and have some children." Give me a break "We want to see you married, so you can be miserable like ther rest of us." Umm, no thanks. "You do like women don't you?" Why are you asking, hoping that I say no? "A guy like you should consider himself lucky to be with her." Okay you marry her. "The bible says that it's not good for a man to be alone." Thats why I have friends like you. sarcasm, priceless. "I found some one perfect for you." Gee, thanks for telling me exactly what is best for me. "You are not attractive enough to be so picky." compared to who, you? "Don't get discuraged, God has some one just for you." Sorry I'm 42, single, no kids, never married. Lets be realistic. This is just the way it is. "Let me introduce you to some one. Hey some one, this is Bigolfeet. He's single." I feel like a piece of not so fresh meat being thrown to the lions. Or 'Lookit him, a live freakshow or sumpin.' "Just have faith, it will happen." God answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is no.

Either you are just posting some of your hated cliches or you are just adding to mine. I am sick and tired of people who tell me that cr.... stuff. We are not spoiled if we complain about the fix ups olddude. Have you ever been fixed up with some one you did not like? The frustating part is the asumption that some one thinks that they know what's best for you! A great blessing huh. That depends on the reciever not some outside loudmouth who sits in the backround anf judges. I hate and suffer from people who think that something if wrong with me. You and people like you drive singles away from church thinking this way. It's punishiment to those wo are different. I am the one who decides when it's not cute to be single as if I get some sick pleasure of displying that I am alone. And by the way al lot of people trust me with their children because they see my spirit not my singleness. I find your post offensive and judgmental and worthy of the spit the you have called on. Just what I think.
