Nowadays I have a full-face helmet. Back in the good ole days, you learned quickly not to smile or you'd gets bugs splatter across yer teeth (or down your throat).

Even with the full-face helmet, you're not completely immune. There is a screen inside the air intake, but still you can get chunks of bug that come through...especially in Mayfly season, which is coming up soon...and they taste even worse than they smell. Here they should change the name to Junefly.

I've not eaten a Mayfly, but as a kid water skiing at twilight I have eaten a Firefly. No, they don't burn... but they will turn your mouth inside out like a green persimmon!

Mmmmmm

The weather has shifted this last week and finally I've begun the till the garden. Already my nemesis has shown it's ugly face...the dreaded Morning Glory. I still can't believe they sell such an invasive weed as a decorative plant.

Well that just goes to show that if you plant it, someone will try to sell it... or smoke it.
Several years back looked at a house with a beautiful garden, and a trellis with honeysuckle. Honeysuckle?? I can't keep that stuff from trying to climb ever red oak at the corner of my yard, and they planted it in their flower garden? They like the way it looked and smells around the patio when in bloom.

I don't think we have honeysuckle up here. The last couple years there's also been some sort of thistle. Haven't bothered to ID it, but it's hard to keep up with. Normally I try not to use weedkiller.

So my wife is having a total knee replacement surgery on Tuesday. I'll be taking time off of w*** to help her. She should be in the hospital for about three days, then hopefully will be able to come home rather than a health care facility if all goes well.

Right now I'm planning on taking three weeks off. If things go really well, then perhaps only two. If needed, I have more time that I can take.

I'm w***ing Saturday and Monday, but there's still a lot of things that need to be done. Along with helping her with her needs, there should be plenty of time to get things done too. But in the next week the house needs cleaned enough to be presentable. They'll be bringing in a home care physical therapist for a while. Plus I need to figure out what to cook.

Too bad they don't have Wifi at the hospital.

Will do. I've got access at home, so I should be around.

We went to the store and loaded up on groceries. For the first few days while she's in the hospital, I'll probably be eating out or at the cafeteria in the hospital.

After that, I'll be cooking for her at home.

I can cook some. It's just that she usually does most of the cooking.

Thanks for all of the prayers. Tooshy is doing very well. Her surgery wasn't until 2:30, so kind of a late start. She was in for about two and a half hours.

It was a total replacement of the right knee. Plus they had to straigten the leg some. The joint had been bone-on-bone for some time, and had begun to wear down in a pattern that made the leg crooked. That was repaired in the process...a little extra work.

After the surgery, she was in her room and wide awake and alert. The nurses were amazed. Most people are groggy for a while. She was watching the ballgame and making intelligent conversation about the game. She has a pain-block so she's not in any pain right now. Tomorrow will be more difficult than today.

Fantastic! Glad it went well. It'll be a rough few daze, so tell her to push that "happy button" as many times as she needs... the machine won't let her get too much meds. Just remember what I noted previously about keeping her on the pain meds when you get home. In a few months she'll feel so new she'll want to go on walks and hold hands.

She doesn't have a 'happy button'. I did when they put a plate in my wrist, so I'm very familiar. They have her on a couple different pain meds though.

Her left knee is nearly as bad as her right. Soon she will start Synvisc shots in her left knee. It won't be too many years before she will need the left knee replaced.

She did really good today, despite a rocky start.

Her pain block wore off last night. This morning they flexed her knee joint for the first time and the pain was considerable...enough to bring tears. It was really tight. Plus she hasn't been able to straighten her knee for years so they were moving it in directions that it truly was not accustomed to being moved.

They had her up in a chair for a while and that went well. She was able to lift herself and use a walker to position herself in and out of the chair.

Then they put her back in bed and installed an electric machine that bends the knee slowly zero to 60 degrees continually. At first it was quite painful. As time went on though, the joint limbered up some and she actually liked it.

Later in the day, they had her up again and she walked as far as the door to the room and back to her chair again, doing well...better than expected.

Praise God!

How's the PT going? Painful I'm sure, but is she out of bed walking around?

She's been home since Friday. I've been caring for her.

Yesterday her physical terrorist came out for an evaluation. Today begins the real torture.

Neveah

Not sure how much national news this story has made, but a local five year old girl came up missing from their apartment parking lot. Eleven days into a massive search for the girl, her body was found in cement at the bottom of a local river by a fisherman.

When the news first broke with an Amber Alert, my heart sunk because I had helped a family through our church who has a young girl with the same first name. While it was somewhat of a relief to find that it was a different girl, we still know people who know the victim.

My heart goes out to the little girl. Every time I see her picture, I wish that I could protect her.

More information

That is so sad, cute girl. I hope they find and execute who ever would sink a beautiful child using concrete like a 1930's thug. I'd be tempted to offer the perp a "free vacation" to a 3rd world country. Then meet up with 5 of my best friends... one of whom owns a carpet business.

Well I used to be in the navy, so I'm particular to keel-hauling. Now I work for an electric company, so I'm in favor of the electric couch. Also drawn and quartered comes to mind as just punishment. I suppose we could keel-haul him and then put him on the electric couch.

Sounds good to me... keelhaul, couched, AND quartered if there is anything left.

We have a small share of "southern thumpers", as I call them, who tell me how corporal punishment is wrong, no longer legit by the New Testament, and that I'll go to hell for believing it's okay. Well, you know me well enough to know that I relish moments like this to push buttons. I just smile and say... well, IMNSHO the guy is broken and needs a face to face talk with The Maker. God wants him back... to fix him, or dump him as seen fit in God's just way.

Worked with our neighbors yesterday rebuilding the cart trails from our houses down to our docks. Moved a lot of dirt, built drainage, and spread mulch... all by hand. Oh man does my body hurt! Can't move too fast, so I'll be sitting in the hammock on the dock all day.

I ain't as good as I once was
That's just the cold hard truth
I still throw a few back, talk a little smack
When I'm feelin' bulletproof
So don't double dog dare me now
'Cause I'd have to call your bluff

Finally getting my garden planted tomorrow.

Right now I'm watching a Pink Floyd special, a live concert of the 'Dark Side of the moon' album. The album was what...1973? The concert was recorded in 1994. Sheesh. Even that was fifteen years ago. Now that makes me feel old.

Apparently so.

We saw a Beatles tribute band a few years ago. They even had a left-handed bass player.

Oh yeah. She's doing great. She gets around with her walker pretty good now. And she can get in and out of bed on her own.

Each day she gets a little more movement out of her knee. The PT people come to the house, but we also do exercizes between visits. As soon as she can get 90 deg. out of her knee, she'll go to outpatient PT instead of at home.

For me, it's back to w*** today.
