Very good, glad to hear that. Thought about Ya'll from time to time... ya' know, in between waiting on print orders, and when burning dead dinosaurs driving up and down I-75. Like to think the mini-prayers helped. We've had a rash of medical stuff hit us lately, the bank account is empty. Work our tails off and my business has held on okay so far, but just can't keep up with the medical bills! Ironic, I'm the only one in the family that takes meds on a daily basis and has a "higher risk" job, yet I've been the only one who has NOT ended up in the ER 3 times in the past year... or at all for the past 8 years! I don't know, just keep plugging along and trying to hold on to what we've got.

Yep, the medical bills can definitely hurt. And it seems every year that our insurance coverage is worse.

I blame our Gobment for that! If it was truly a free market, insurance companies would be legally able to offer coverage in packages you want to buy. For instance, what if you could take the same pre-tax premium deductions your employer takes? What if insurance companies could legally offer coverage without the mandated prenatal care, pshycological coverage, drug abuse rehab? What if you could legally go across state lines to buy the coverage you want that excludes such items when you know you have a low risk of becoming pregnant, crazy, or a drug addict? We do not have a free market when it comes to medical care, and the power hungry Gobment officials likes it that way. Until insurance companies are not forced to offer coverage that we neither need or want, they have no choice but to bundle the coverage to manage the risk and cost.... passing it all on to everyone. Like the big O sez... "paying your fair share".

That's the way all business is. What the tax and spend Gobment folks don't want YOU to understand is that ALL the "mandates", taxes, and extra cost they "stick to" evil businesses and business owners.... well, we have to pass that cost on to the buyer. What other choice do we have? I'm in this to make money, not just for and . If I can't make a profit, I'll just fire everyone and go fishing. The recent actions have done nothing but squelch and kill any new business ventures, and they continue to dig at "evil business owners" because we expect a return $$$$$$ on our money. Well, I have one question for them.... have you EVER gotten a good paying, stable job from a poor person??

Around here it's always a big debate about how much money business owners spend on taxes...especially property taxes and whether or not they should get tax break incentives to entice new businesses to locate here. Michigan changed their tax laws in order to attract movie making in the state. Since then there have been a lot of movies made in Michigan and now some of the other states are changing their laws, seeing the success that Michigan has had.

Yeah, we all play "the tax game". They make the rules, we have to figure out how to legally avoid as much as possible. If we had The Fair Tax, as proposed by John Linder, you'd see economic growth like you've never seen before. You control your taxes by how much you spend, not on income that punishes success. The current tax structure is geared towards control and punishing success. GA just passes a new tax credit to attract businesses and additional credits for those who employ the unemployed. It worked, we have many smaller and one HUGE Fortune 500 company coming here in our area. They are leaving Taxassachusetts and Ohio to come to a more business friendly state. That is big news here... a major corporate headquarters leaving the area where they started in the 1800's?? Obviously the Pollaticians missed the mark by listing to the pollsters rather than the gainfully employed who want to keep their jobs. It's good for me, will help me sell some of these houses!

And it's my understanding that they're not big on unions in your area. That must be an incentive for businesses too.

Well it's not so much that, but GA is a "right to work" state, and most choose or vote to not have unions come mess up a good work place.

A little story from the 1990s... the auto union was trying to come into a local Bus and RV manufacturing plant, but the workers kept voting it down. The union tried to make the plant management look bad in the media, but the workers stood up and said our bosses and the family that owns this biz are great. We get paid great, get great benefits, and great vacation... WE don't want the union to come mess it up. The family that owned the business really didn't need the business, they already made their millions. They kept the operation going because the community needed the jobs, and the community supported them. That made the union mad. If you want to see how a good Christian family runs a business, check out Blue Bird Buses.

For the last couple weeks, I've been trying to get the deck stained.

Did that last year too, but with the dogs and apparent problems with the stain adhering, it had to be redone. This time, a primer was used ahead of the opaque stain, followed by two coats. There were delays, waiting for the weather to cooperate. Finally yesterday, there was a decent weather window and the project was completed with the final coat...now just to put the deck chairs and table back and it's done.

I really try not to w*** on Sunday, but having the weather window and desire to complete the task convinced me to finish the job.

Also I pulled the travel trailer out of storage and brought it home. We'll be taking a long weekend and camping over the holiday.

Also yesterday

Hope Ya'll have a great camping trip!
I'm half way into vacation mode. We didn't do a darn thing this weekend but sit on the dock soaking up the sun while the kids jumped off the dock, climbed up, jumped off, climbed up, jumped off....
Finished up a contract for a young fellow buying his first home, looked at a small apartment complex to bid it out, and finished up a little land appraisal report today. Will be driving Tuesday to look at one more small land job, have done so many lately that I can do them in my sleep. Then I have one little 5,000 SF warehouse to look at on Wednesday, and got a request to appraise a church building today... but, won't start that one until next week. So after Wednesday, I'm done and will be working from my home office... if I want to work at all! In all honesty, I'll probably work on the warehouse report Thursday and Friday AM, but will quit work by 2PM. It's nice because at 3PM, the sun dips down enough to where our cove is in the shade. Saturday we'll go visit Mom and Pop to have diner and watch the fireworks from their side of the lake.

Then the Inlaws come back... with their 4 kids, one still in diapers! But it's fun, all of the cousins are close and they really play together so well. With 2 Moms "catching up" on the gossip, us Dads can do a head count in between naps every hour or so and say we did our duty. That's when the neighborhood pool comes in handy, they are corralled! Not much trouble except who stole who's float toy.

Yes, with Mom and Dad on Saturday. It's BBQ ribs and a pork shoulder. But I can't do BBQ when the inlaws show up, not with 6 kids around. Hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken nuggets are staple foods when they visit. Either that, or we go to a family cafe and pay someone to clean up after us.

We went camping this last weekend. I have a small charcoal grill that is a table-top model...perfect for the two of us, good enough for the four we had this weekend.

I grilled out hotdogs and hamburgers and chicken thighs. But my favorite is getting up early and cooking breakfast. Everyone else sleeps in, so it's just me. I've got a cast iron skillet that fits perfectly on the little grill. Cook up some bacon or sausage and then fry some eggs in the grease. Remove the skillet and toast bread right on the grill.

Cool, sounds like a blast. A good man can cook ANYTHING on the grill.
I cleaned my gas porch grill last night. Took 2 hours and lots of elbow grease. But, we are now all ready for our guest this week... some sun, some lake fun, and grilling out.

Gotta clean it out at least once a year... else the burners get clogged with goo and goo starts to overflow onto the porch. Besides, the wife uses it to.
Used to have a charcoal grill and that was easy, dump ashed and grill again. But it didn't make it in the last move. RIP

Mine is supposed to have a drip can underneath of it to catch any grease that comes out. Instead I've got a board propped underneath to protect the deck, and the dogs keep it nice and clean.

Yeah, and that has it's own set of problems. The dog trots inside and jumps on my Ray's bed.... HuAck, HuAck, HuuuuAAAAAck! You stupid Dawg, whadda just hack up on my bed??!

Speaking of dogs, mine loves to swim in the lake and go on boat rides. I'm going boat shopping this weekend to trade in my fishing boat for a pontoon. I know, that's like trading in the Corvette for a mini-van. But, that's what happens when you have kids and you are tired of bailing out rain water because you forgot to charge the boat battery.

Yeah, but pontoons are a lot of fun. And some of them are even fast enough to water ski.

Yeah they are fun, much nicer cruise than getting bounced around in a regular V hull boat.
I missed one this weekend... found an ad for a restored 1980's Bass Buggy Pontoon with a 60HP engine, and it sold before the owners called me back. Darn, guess I'll keep looking, there's bound to be more deals out there right now.
