Hi Mike!

Did you have fun?

Around here, now's a great time to buy a boat...or a house or just about anything else. Unemployment is so high.

Help!

The weeds have taken over the garden.

17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life.

18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.

19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return."

Genesis 3

I didn't but others did. I had the pleasure of unhooking the fish. They were amazingly calm when I did it.

What kind of fish were they catching?

(I love to fish, but am not good at catching them.)

Well I haven't been able to keep up with the yardwork much lately. With my wife recovering from knee surgery and me recovering from a sprained ankle, not much is getting done.

She has her good days and bad. She tends to overdo it and then pays for it. Plus anytime the barometer drops, she knows it by the pain.

My ankle is doing better now, but still I'm taking it easy on it trying not to re-injure.

Next weekend we will be camping in Indiana near Shepshwana.

And the weeds are taller than the tomatoes, but not quite as tall as the corn.

Tonight...tractor pull and the county fair!

I'll bet it's nice having the kids back in school though. Brings back memories...first day of school.

The endless summer finally over, new clothes and reacquainting with friends that you haven't seen in a while. A few new faces at the desks. And all of those girls look a little older than before.

What do you remember?

Mine are young enough where they still enjoy school. However, I don't... especially starting back so early. It's still the Dawg Daze of summer, I want to be on the lake and playing. Can't do that during the skool week when they have to be in bed by 7pm.

Back where I grew up (Nebraska), school didn't start so early. It was right around Labor Day for the first day of school. And if the weather was hot, they let school out because there wasn't any air conditioning.

Yeah, same here. Where I grew up, the high school was new. But the middle school was in the old, old HS building with not A/C... and old steam heaters that would turn on in June for no good reason. There were several times we were let out at lunch, mostly in the late Spring, because it was just too hot. The problem we have now is the colleges have changed to a semester system rather than quarter, so all the schools are changing to similar. Otherwise we have HS grads who will miss their first shot at getting into college, and would have to wait until the winter semester. Just another way for colleges to get more $$$$ IMNSHO.

We went camping last weekend, and there's a couple problems with the travel trailer. For one, the air conditioner fan motor was shaking badly. I noticed it the day before we left on our camping trip. A buddy came over and we tore the a/c unit apart to find that motor was shaking but the fan blades were intact.

We reinforced the mountings with some wire to help keep the vibration to a minimum and put it back together. We were able to park in the shade of a tree while camping, and the a/c kept us cool on 'low' and survived the weekend.

After we got home, we tore it apart again and removed the motor. Ordered a new one from the local RV store. Should take about two weeks to get the new parts.

The other problem was a leaking roof. Last night I recruited my wife to sit inside and feed me information as I got out the garden hose. It took a while to narrow down where the leak is, but now I have a real good idea where it is.

Since the leak is near the front of the roof, I jacked the trailer as high up as I could to minimize the leakage until I have an opportunity to fix it.

Just like a lot of things...it's a toy that costs you time and money. But you have a boat, so you know all about that.

Whew, I knew there was some reason I don't buy those toys. Of course, it is mostly because I am inept at being handy. Fortunately, my wife was always around and about with her dad so she has many skills.

Greetings, folks. This is my first visit. Actually, I come with a question. Can anyone give me advice about fixing cracks, both small and large, in a cement driveway. We are considering buying a house that has a nice driveway, but we are clueless what someone would do about the cracks, if anything needs to be done.

Thanks,

Greetings SteveyP and welcome to the garage.

Are they simple cracks, or has the driveway shifted in elevation considerably?

Ooooh yes. That's why I'm glad I didn't buy ANOTHER hole in the ground to toss $$$.
You know what boat stands for? When you take it to the shop, the mechanic sez...
'Bout, Oooo, Another Thousand.

Well...what is a simple crack? Most of the cracks are run of the mill where the pavement seems to still be even and the cracks are maybe a 1/2" or less. There are 3 or 4 cracks that are larger and there is some elevation difference between the 2 sides. There are not any "drastic" breaks in the pavement where the elevation difference is more than a 1/4' to 1/2" (at least that doesn't seem drastic to me). Weeds have already started growing in most of the cracks, though experience tells me they don't need much of a crack - those little buggers!!

For small cracks, you can get concrete filler from any hardware store. Ace has a filler in a quart bottle, HomeDepot has it in a tube for caulk guns.

However, if the cracks are larger and the concrete is shifting or sagging, you have several options from cheap and temporary to fixing it right. A cheaper temporary fix would be to skim over it. The patch won't last for ever, maybe a few years depending on how cold it gets in your area. A proper fix would be to tear it up, compact the soil, and pump concrete to be placed for a driveway.

Cracks with gaps... I take it it's a regular driveway where you have 4-6 inches of concrete. If it has a gap then where's the rebar that's supposed to hold the thing together?

My guess they're just cracks with small gaps if any at all. Go to one of the popular home stores and get some concrete patch. You can get the kind in a tube or the kind in a plastic pail or even the kind in a squirt bottle. Those are all premixed and ready to use.

You can mix your own concrete and fill it the cracks yourself (if you want it smooth then don't get the one that has the rocks in it (premix/just add water).

(Everything that APZR said too)

There are two kinds on concrete... concrete that's cracked and concrete that's gonna crack.

My first time here too. Hi everyone!

Now I have a question...

Forum says the "Men Only" forum is moderated by forum moderators. Does that mean the "lady moderators" actually moderate this forum too?
