jodavi -> American Idol Season 7 (1/7/2008 5:21:05 PM)

Season starts Jan 15th. I am one of those who can only handle the bad auditions a few times. I look forward more once they're in Hollywood.

PLEASE NOTE:
This thread is just for people who 'actually watch' the show.

I am soooo looking forward to this season. My friends son made it to Hollywood. But she couldn't tell me any more than that. The whole family had to sign a paper saying that they wouldn't talk about his results. [:)] Hope he does well!!!

Let us know his name so we can keep an eye on him [:D]

I'm torn, only because I want to watch, but can't vote because of work. I can always tape and watch later, but like last season, I can't vote, so I didn't get into it as much.

Okami -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/7/2008 10:05:23 PM)

The bad auditions are the best part of the entire season!

annieflowergirl -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/7/2008 10:10:46 PM)

As soon as I know it is OK, I will let you all know who HE is!!!

karlie -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/7/2008 10:20:15 PM)

I never vote(well, did once for Bo), but have been a fan since the beginning.

The bad auditions are funny, but sometimes it's just too painful to watch! One of my psych professors told us to watch it for case studies...lol. She says many of them have legit delusional disorder, grandiose type. The definition is "conviction of great talent where none actually exists". Yep, plenty of those! [:D]

I'm ready for it to start!

Hey, me too!!!!!! Wouldn't it be funny if it's the same guy????

Because of that, I'm especially excited about this season.

uncabeeil -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/8/2008 10:13:30 AM)

Sis and are already arguing over what gets watched and what gets DVR'd.

I agree! I always wonder when someone comes out and sounds just terrible, who was telling them that they sound good?

I know some people that auditioned here in San Diego and they said the first time that they sing, it is with a group of less than ten people, staged all around, in front of producers, so I could just imagine a producer thinking "oh yeah, they've gotta see this! " [:D]

wareaglekd -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/8/2008 12:26:23 PM)

The process can be disappointing. A lot of really good singers don't get picked while they pick the really bad ones to move on just to highlight their embarassment. I've known a couple of people to try out. After it's said & done & think they were glad they didn't get picked, but they enjoyed the experience. kd

I just hope AI hasn't jumped the shark.

It's my favorite show, but after Season 6's screw-up they better go all-out with Season 7 or the series will be going downhill fast. Give us more about the contestants and less about the "mentors" showing up to promote their new album.

Last year I spoiled the Top 24, and this year I've got a lot of the Top 50 if anyone wants a head's up. A lot of this year's contestants have MySpaces for their music already, so there should be a sense of professionalism to this season from the get-go.

and that would be?

Where do I begin?

Well, for one, like I mentioned, they focused too much on the guest mentors and not on a personal level with the contestants as they have in previous years.

Allowing someone like Sanjaya through was a complete mess. He should have never made the Top 24 from the get-go.

While the charity angle of Idol Gives Back was nice, it completely messed up with the flow and progression of the show. And not voting someone off? Lame. (I know they are bringing it back this year but it will be its own separate special which is good.)

Song Writing Contest? I thought it was supposed to IMPROVE the coronation song? "This is My Now" was one of the worst ever.

...I think I'll stop there.

[font="comic sans ms]Oh. I thought you meant screwing up like they did the year before when they let Taylor win the whole thing when he was obviously second rate. Those are all small things that are easily forgotten.

Taylor Hicks was dropped from his record label...as was the second winner Ruben Studdard and (not a winner) Katherine McPhee. From what I can tell Jordan Sparks isnt doing really great either (please correct me if I am wrong)

This season I would like to see someone win, who can really utilize the oppourtunities afforded to them, like keeping a record contract.

momma-mo -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/10/2008 11:01:09 AM)

As far as the auditions go I am really "frosted" by how many singing coaches are telling there clients that they are really good when they are obviously awful! So many of the poor souls that are bad get this look on their faces of sheer confusion and say something like this "But my voice teacher says I have natural talent!" I feel sorry for these people....first they are ripped off by voice teachers....then they are made into fools on national t.v.! Has anyone else noticed how many say that their voice teachers say they are really good?!

I have heard that before too. My first thoughts were 1. their voice teachers ripped them off and 2. if they actually got through then the voice teachers can say "I got this many people through the auditions of American Idol" which is still true regardless of the fact that they got through because they were unbelievably horrendous!

momma-mo -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/10/2008 11:09:41 AM)

Sad, huh?

Jordin Sparks has the lowest sales on all AI winners. I think AI is opening doors for these young people but it's up to them on how they will utilize what they have once the door's opened. Fantasia, for one, did not seem like she hit great with her CD when it came out but later found out that she's great in The Color Purple. The ones, I think, who took chances after AI are the ones that will still be around. 'reminds me so much of the 'parable of the talents' in the book of Matthew.

'not sure if you watch So you think you can dance- but they have the same sad stories on some people who auditions and some of them were even dance teachers to little kids. Nigel has expressed his frustrations and anger a few times in the show.

i_am_just_me -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/10/2008 11:19:12 AM)

So my hope is that this season is nothing like last season! I read somewhere that they are going to stray away from the celebrity judges on focus more on the contestants like in the beginning. That would be nice. I just dont want the main focus to be on someones "personality" (Sanjaya). I want the main focus to be on Singing Talent (sounds like a weird request for a singing talent show, huh?) I understand the the producers did what they had to do for ratings, but it seems like that plan has kinda backfired.

momma-mo -> RE: American Idol Season 7 (1/10/2008 11:22:10 AM)

You'd think the judges would comment on AI about the huge numbers of bad teachers out there!
