How could I forget Pan's Laberynth and The Devil's Backbone? Both from Guillermo del Toro, both fantastic. He has a new movie comming out soon.

The Orphanage isn't a movie of his, they're just putting his name on it, as they often do ("from the producers of blah blah blah," "from the creators of blah blah blah") to generate interest in a no-name effort.

Uh... mmm... I hope you're ready to stomach the latest Asian horror remake of The Pang Bros.' The Eye--starring... JESSICA ALBA![:'(][sm=growlwarning.gif] Personally speaking, I think the idea of Hollywood trying to redo Asian horror flicks, albeit from Japan, Korea, or even in this case, Hong Kong (albeit directed by two Thai auteurs) is largely an amateurish effort... and I'm being too charitable! I guess it's all of that Asian paradigm that helps make Asian scare-fests what they are today, or should. I was even thinking/suggestively joking about daring Hollywood to remake the infamous Guinea Pig movies from Japan, or even The Untold Story, Dr. Lamb, and other various, grisly true crime, Category III dreck that came out of Hong Kong back in the day (circa 1990), BUT I realized that Hostel's Eli Roth would/will jump at the chance, no questions asked![:@][:'(]

BTW: I can empathize with you about the nonsense over Jessica Alba, given that I'm starting to see how this thespian is more sex appeal than substance... and that too, is being too charitable![&:]

The only movie I have watched not in English was "Passion of the Christ."

One day I watched a few minutes of some Japanese anime movie/show, but didn't see a point to finishing it.

That's so strange - even if I hadn't personally watched subtitled movies all my life, plenty of my courses in college had required viewings of foreign movies, and there's been several "blockbusters" widely released in the states, like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Amelie.

Tons of French movies because it is my mother tongue, as well as many Spanish/German movies with subtitles. Too many to count, though.
If anyone is up for a comedy, I'd recommend "Le Diner de Cons".
"Seraphin" is sad but I really enjoyed it.
"Les Boys" (it's a series, there are 4) are hilarious but I don't know if there are any versions with subtitles.

Many. The last 2 being "Night Watch" and "Day Watch".

Oh, and I guess "Ten Canoes" is foreign language because even though the narration is in English, the characters are speaking the Warlpiri dialect of the Australian Aborigines.

Yes I have.

Here's a few: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers, Hero, Wong Fei Hung, Fong Sai Yuk, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, Howl's Moving Castle, Whispers of the Heart, Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, (can you tell I'm a Hayao Miyazaki fan??) etc.

I like watching foreign films in the original language, with English subtitles. I detest watching them with English dub.

That movie about the "idiot" being invited to dinner is one of my favorites. I only the French title "Le Diner de Cons" (as I listed above).
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita E Bella) is my favorite movie of all time.
La Vie en Rose was mediocre, it's like they spent too much time on the beginning of Edith's life and rushed through the rest, and weirdly forgot to add in the fact that she was bisexual.
C.R.A.Z.Y. was alright, it was interesting but my favorite part of that movie was definitely the soundtrack.

Graveyard of Honor (both the original and remake versions)

and one I hope to see for myself--never mind the fact it's told from the PRC perspective (as in The People's Republic of China... as opposed to The Republic of China, a.k.a. Taiwan)...

Assembly

Fact-based war movie about how the lone survivor of a People's Liberation Army unit, tried to cope with the loss of his comrades during the Chinese Civil War, a.k.a. The 2nd Chinese Revolution (circa 1949). Given its production values, I'm not surprised that it's co-produced by the same Korean, creative team who brought us Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War (hence the reason why many critics are drawing comparisons between Assembly, and Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers), though something tells me that if I'm going shower any praise for this movie it will be in the same context as say, some vintage Riefenstahl/Eisenstein movies (Assembly credits the PLA's own studio dept. for its production team), crossbred with Elem Klimov's "Come & See." I'll try to set up a thread designated for this movie for everyone's interest...

Those are the ones I can remember right now. I once watched a Belgium film called "Man Bites Dog" - makes Goodfellas and The Godfather look like Disney flicks.
