Fiddle. This is the 2nd night in a row that someone has rung my doorbell around this time. I don't answer my door after dark unless I know someone's coming over. No one ever rings my doorbell. Last night, whoever it was hung around for a few minutes as I could hear them talking. I don't hear anyone tonight. It's seriously making me jumpy. I abhor being scared.

And I was not yelling. Use caps at work and sometimes start typing my post before I notice caps are on and I refuse to go back and type it over.

I abhor being scared. Some verses for you... 2 Samuel 22:3 3 my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior— from violent men you save me. Psalm 18:2 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 91 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [a] 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you make the Most High your dwelling— even the LORD, who is my refuge- 10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

SharMar, I want to echo what Santa said. If it happens again, or if you hear their voices outside, please call the police. There is no shame in doing that.

Me, personally. I would've went to the door and said "I have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it".

If it happens again tomorrow night, I think I will call the police. I just don't want to waste their time.

I know where you're coming from, but if these people are up to no good, it wouldn't have been a waste of the police's time the first or second time they rang your doorbell. Don't mean to fuss, just want you to be careful.

((((((((((((Shar-Mar)))))))))))))) I remember one time when I was a teenager and I was home alone on our farm in the middle of nowhere. Someone came knocking on the door and I refused to answer it. The problem was, this guy knew someone was home. What does he do? Starts banging on the door (yeah, that's going to get me to open the door) then procedes to walk around the house banging on the windows. I think it was just some farm person looking for my dad, but I was very close to calling the sheriff... Oh, and then there were the 2 freaky guys in the old VW bus who used to park out at the edge of the parking lot of the grocery store I worked at in college. This of course was where the employees parked and I usually got off around 10 or 11 at night. These guys would literally just sit there in the dark parking lot for hours on end. I mentioned it a co-worker friend of mine who had been a police officer in Texas before moving up to WA and she had seen the same creepy guys and shared my concerns. Apparently we were the only 2 people who seemed to notice these guys... Anyway, we decided the next time we saw them, we would call the police. Sure enough, it was only a few nights later that these guys were out in the far parking lot sitting there in the dark. I lived a few blocks away at the time (I drove because it was dark when I got off work), so I drove home quickly and called the police. The creepy guys had left before they got there, but the officer came to my apartment to tell me what was up and encourage me to have the store call them back the next time I saw them. The next night, I told my PIC that and she talked with the manager of the store. They thanked my former cop co-worker and I for noticing that and told us to tell them the next time we saw these dudes as they wanted to call the police too. The manager was so awesome too. He said that if I EVER felt uncomfortable walking to my car at night, to PLEASE grab him or any of the guys who worked there and they would walk me to my car. I never took him up on that, but it was nice to hear. Anyway, a few nights later when I was off, my former-cop co-worker spotted the creeps and they called the police. The police didn't find them doing anything illegal per se, but they served them a no-trespass with the manager of our store and we never saw them again... Old VW busses, still give me the creeps... Sadly, I have more stories of creepy dudes... And some are worse...

When I used to work at one of the grocery stores in town, I made somebody walk out with me. It was on a not so nice side of town. Always freaked me out. When I was housesitting for a friend of mine (same neighborhood as the grocery), a car kep driving back and forth. Then one time it drove by, stopped and backed up. I definitely called the police then. Especially since I was in a strange house with lots of doors and windows. I would lock the house up and be in bed by 9. I would lock the room I stayed in to. Freaked me out. It was an old old house too, so that made it worse.

I do have an embarrassing calling the police story, but it doesn't have anything to do with creepy people...

Thanks, {{{y'all}}} Kristin, those were creepy guys that you described. There was a guy in Jackson . . . before I ever met CS. He was a homeless guy I met on the bus. In my naivete I thought I was ministering to him . . . we always talked about Our Lord. But he gave me icky feelings. I chided myself and thought I was just being a snob. One day he asked me to meet him at Albertsons (they had a fireplace area with a sitting area). While we were sitting at the table, he took my hand and told me that he was in love with me I was stunned; I didn't see that coming AT ALL. That conversation quickly went downhill very fast. I told him I wasn't in love with him. He grabbed my handed and started squeezing it so hard, he crumpled my fingers together. He looked me straight in the eye and told me that he was a crazy man and that he would have no problem killing me (only he used a few expletives to describe his level of craziness and his now very unflattering thoughts towards me). We were in a very public place with people all around (and so I wasn't as scared as if we had been somewhere alone). I got up, went and found a manager, took him back to the table (where the guy still was) and then told the manager what had just happened and asked him to call the police. Later, after CS and I got together, the first time we ran into him, my knees went weak. The guy came up to CS and they shook hands and talked for about 30 minutes. The guy was shooting daggers at me with his eyes. After CS and I left, I asked him how he knew that guy and he said, "He's one of the homeless guys. THEN he looked at me, and said, "I would prefer that you not get to know him too well," and then he proceeded to tell me about some of the stuff he knew about this guy. That's when I told CS what had happened with me. We probably saw that guy maybe 5 more times through the next 3 years; and whenever we did, CS always made sure that he was between me and the guy whenever he would come up to us. I saw him a couple of times on the bus, after CS had died; and each time, he would just stared at me the entire time. I made it a point to never get off of the bus once I got on it until he got off first.

OK, you twisted my arm.... I was in college and lived in a campus apartment with 2 friends. One was gone for the weekend so it was just my roommate Janel and I. That Friday night, she had some friends over and I kept thinking I was catching a whiff of gas (we had a gas range). No one else could smell it though so I thought I was imagining it. I was pretty paranoid about that range because I have never had gas appliances (or anything gas for that matter) before and this thing was older than dirt. Anyway, the next morning, I wake up and open my bedroom door only to be greeted by the intense smell of gas - and this time you couldn't miss it. The entire apartment was filled with it. I quickly opened the windows to air it out and went to the range to check the pilot light in the oven. It was lit. By this time, I thought we had a gas leak and I was sure the place would explode... (did I mention the gas thing made me a little paranoid?). My roommate of course was no help but said we should call the university police. Afterall, a gas leak in a crowded apartment building is very serious and being as these were campus apartments, we didn't even know who our gas company was. So, I called the emergency number. A few minutes later 2 officers come banging on our door and I let them in. My roommate is still not dressed (it's Saturday morning) so she hides in her bedroom and let's me deal with all this. The officers come in and they can smell the gas although it's much better than it was as much of it has drifted out the windows. They check the pilot light in the oven and sure enough, it's lit. I feel better knowing I am not an idiot. Then one of the officers pops the top of the stove up. I had no idea stove tops popped up. They begin to check each pilot light for each burner on the stove. I had no idea each burner had it's own pilot light. One of the burner lights was out. That's where the gas was coming from. They lit it and left. I felt like the biggest idiot to walk the planet earth. And my roommate was still hiding in her bedroom.

LOL - to that last line! And sheesh, Kristin - EVERYBODy knows each burner has it's own pilot light and that the pilot light has to remain lit. Sheesh! For instance, I've known THAT ever since well, ever since I read it in your post above.
