i'm starting this thread so people in another thread can get on with their lives, oblivious to the fact that I hate one of their favorite shows... however, you know there are television shows that you hate, and you can't understand why other people would waste their time watching them. for me that show is American Idol. Simon is pure vitriol, the people are pretty talentless and bland, and the theme song itself irritates me. Really, if this show disappeared off of televsion, I would not miss it. So, i'm sure I'm the only cow left in the herd who does not love this show, but oh well...i can't account for people who do not have taste. anyway, what show do you hate, and why, and why do you think other people love it so much?

I hate Oprah. I hate how she passes herself off as an expert on everything, when she's really an expert on nothing except how to produce a television show and market herself. Her audiences seem like robots. I have no idea why so many people think she's all that.

yes, i agree,,,and Dr. Phil. I don't understand how people can just run out and buy whatever book they say "buy", or fall for whatever crazy scheme they have cooking. Oprah is crazy.

You're not the only one that hates American Idol. I think it's a joke and I have never listened to anyone that has won because I think their music stinks. I watched the show once because I wondered what the big deal about it was. Once was all I could handle. So I agree with you and say I hate American Idol.

wow, you must be the only other person on this board that hates it. I thought i was all alone here! the people in the AI thread got a little upset with me because i told them that i don't watch the show, but i do participate in a website that votes for the worst singer each week to try and sabotage the contest (that i personally think is rigged anyway). they said i was "immature' and maybe I am, but it gives me pleasure. We voted for some guy named Taylor as the worst person and he won, so maybe it makes a difference. i heard he's already lost his recording contract, so for me, it means i did the world a favor by voting for the worst singer.

ok, other shows i can't stand....That show where you have to pick some briefcase and make deals with a banker to try to get a million dollars (or whatever it is). cannot stand that show. why don't they put these gameshow type things on daytime tv instead of primetime?

Hee! I almost did that with the Indian kid that stunk so bad. All I heard about from my friends who watched AI was that he was horrible and needed to be voted off, so I teased them that I would call in and vote for him. The way they looked at was as if I said "I'm going to eat your children". AI fans are die hards and will cut you if you mess with their show

LOL (well, I for one was enjoying reading your posts in the other thread...lol. and I do like and watch the show...though I haven't figured out which channel it is on now or what time...so I have missed it so far...I like the REAL competition part though better then the auditions part) I don't like Big Brother....HATE that show. Not sure why...maybe cause it reminds me of teenage high school drama and I can live without that for the rest of my life!!!!

Feel free to bash shows, but do you really need to bash the other forum members who may like them? I'm indifferent to AI, but this AI-lovers bashing is... Yeah. I don't like Deal or No Deal, either. There's no skill. The drawn out, contrived suspense is eye-rollingly stupid. (But then, if I do get sucked into it, I do want to see how the contestant does. Go figure.) Oprah - I agree with y'all. Actually, any of the talk shows annoy me: Oprah, The View, Rosie (when she had her own show), Ellen, Montel, Springer... And don't get me started on shows like Texas Justice and Judge Judy!

i don't like big brother either (even though i have a friend who actually won one season of it. it was sheer torture having to watch her every single week to see if she'd stay in the house) i also don't like the MTV Real World or Road Trip one. I don't like most reality shows. the only one i watched faithfully was Superstar USA, and that's because it was a big joke, where they choose the worst one as the winner. hate the Bachelor..i mean, do those people (besides that one couple that are together) even get married?????

I've never watched it nor had a desire to. It looks so... voyeuristic. And I agree about Bachelor et. al. - love isn't about choosing from a gaggle of women in front of a camera. Yeesh.

Springer- (ding, ding, ding) who cares what the topic is, just fight and/or pull your shirt up, or dance on the pole Maury -who is the baby's father? did your man have an affair? the lie detector knows all! and I'm 15 and I want to have a baby!

hate the Bachelor..i mean, do those people (besides that one couple that are together) even get married????? oh yeah...hate that one too!!! hubby and I were just talking about that the other night!!! on talk shows, yeah...I agree.....Dr Phil seemed to get his whole philosophy about life out in the first show...after that if got very very boring. Oprah....not very impressed. I do like some of the old OLD ones though that my parents have recorded from way back in the 80's/90's...she seemed to really change when she lost weight...I liked her better before that...lol. Not too into the other talk shows either...although I do like the fun beginning of Ellen....we catch it sometimes and my kids like to dance to any music (they really miss that Dancing With The Stars is off now...lol). So the first few minutes there can be entertaining. All the others....yeah, I just want to scream "GROW UP!!!!" too often...lol. (That's probably why I prefer to be on here then watching TV anyway)

ORIGINAL: elastic i've never seen people as upset with me as when i told them that i was voting for sanjaya. What I've seen over the last two years is that while the combo of "devoted" fans that are dedicated to Sanjaya-types, and the "vote for the worst" crowd, likely can't get someone to win - their votes, while there are still a bunch of contestants, usually knock more talented folks from the top 10. After those folks are knocked off, the people really voting on talent and appeal switch to voting for the remaining talented contestants, eventually knocking off the untalented VFTW contestant(s). The voting for talented contestants simply isn't diluted enough any more for the VFTW/nutty dedicated fans to overcome the people voting for talent. Next time you all are tempted to "vote for the worst," maybe you'll consider at least for a moment that this tactic won't likely change the final outcome, and what it really does is knock off talented contestants who really could have used the additional exposure. I just wonder - if you don't like a show, why not just simply not watch it? Or, editorialize, blog, write to the networks, whatever? Why put so much energy into attempting to mess up the voting? It's not an effective means of registering your disapproval, IMO...because the AI producers aren't going to know whether you're a "dedicated" fan of the FTFW contestant or someone trying to mess up the results.

the AI producers themselves don't care who you vote for. really....the top spot is pretty much rigged. if they even consider the votes, all they care about is numbers, and how many people are watching. again, voting for the worst person shouldn't mean anything to anyone anyway, because supposedly these people are all talented....right????

I can't think of any shows I "hate" but there are several that I just can't understand the interest in. I guess I would say I'm indifferent to them, maybe even against them, but I haven't watched them enough to hate them. That would include AI, which I've maybe seen 15 minutes cumulative of in my entire life. The only way I could hate a show is if I really liked it, got sucked in, and then they either canceled it, or killed it by going "over the top". For example, I liked the first couple seasons of The Practice, but once they added Denny Crane, I hated it.

You've got 'em pegged! I often wonder on the "who is the baby's father" ones where the one person swears up and down that it is his child or isn't his child, then the test comes back to reveal... ya know. Anyway, I wonder if someone who was really monogamous went on the show and stated her husband IS the father, would the results be tampered with to add to the drama? Hmmmm.

I'm not sure if I'm to the point of hate, but I was severely dissapointed in Smash Lab. I don't recall any foul language, or sexuality, or any of the usual objectionable content, but it was just so stupid! The ads for the show made it out to be science based, but it was anything but. There was just a bunch of thoughtless destruction. Not only is it sad that it could have been better, but also because it's pretty much anti-science. The "experiments" done on the show are just stunts. There is not enough thought going into them to be called science.
