Okami -> RE: Rambo (1/25/2008 11:38:36 PM)

I haven't seen it. But you can pretty much know what it is going to be.
He kills a lot of people and saves some others.
One person's review I saw said something to the effect of:
"pretty cool action movie, no plot what so ever but the action was awesome
LOTS of commies getting killed so I enjoyed it! and I do mean LOTS"

It reminded me of a story that Chip Ingram had brought up about the latest action movies, and what would you imagine Jesus thinking.
Basically it was someone sitting at the theater saying "Look Jesus! Look at that! What do you think of that one? Oooh, and that? Ha, good stuff huh?"
And Jesus says "I died for that person that was just so casually killed."

Hubby says go see it, but don't take anyone under 21.

uncabeeil -> RE: Rambo (1/26/2008 12:04:55 AM)

The guy who reviews for WABC tv in New York said it never should have been made. He also said the studio was "reluctant" to show it to critics, and they shouldn't have.[f/font]

I just got back from watching it. It's a feel good movie. The bad guys get it in the end. The Christian missionaries came to Burma to help the people there with their medicine. The Karen people didn't know that the missionaries brought John Rambo in with a little medicine of his own. He (and some mercenaries) laid waste to the whole army of Burmese soldiers who were oppressing the Karens. ...And there was peace in the land for 20 years. Doesn't that sound like a verse out of the Book of Judges?
quote:

...Ibzan, Elon, Abdon, Samson, Rambo

The Christian missionaries, however, could have been more likeable, especially the head guy. At first, he was really a pain. But at the end, after the bodies piled up for the day, he seemed to come around to Rambo's way of thinking. It also should be pointed out that the pastor of the church hired the mercenaries to rescue the missionaries with whatever force necessary. That kind of contradicts the first of the movie when the missionaries were on a mission from their church to heal and not to hurt.

Saw the movie over the weekend and thought it was a well done movie. I did think the violence was too much. But I thought the positive elements were good. The missionary group bringing Christ to those people, helping them with medicine, food, clothes. The girl gets Rambo to thinking about what the US is like after all these years; his father; that he still has it in him to care for others. At the end Rambo sees the girl hug her fiancee or boyfriend and I think seeing that convinced him to return home. I was only dissapointed in the ending. You see Rambo walking to his dads home and the credits start to roll. I would like to have seen him knock on the door, his dad open it and sees his son for the first time in over 30 years or so, hugs him and says Welcome home son. That to me would have been a better ending to end the series. Lets remember there are Christian missionaries who face exactly what this movie portrayed. This movie should inspire us to pray more for missionaries who go to those type countries!!

Hubby says go see. There is not a drop of estrogen in it all.

The_Omega_Syndrome -> RE: Rambo (1/29/2008 12:53:56 PM)

I guess as long as you understand the point of the movie you're about to see, you can usually enjoy it. Rambo isn't supposed to win any Oscars for acting, cinematography or anything like that. It's supposed to be a rediculous, over the top action flick. The story isn't supposed to be captivating and spellbinding. So, as a silly action movie, I'm sure it's good. I'll probably still wait for home video.

mrtigger -> RE: Rambo (1/29/2008 7:46:54 PM)

[:D] A 60 year old running around kicking bad guy butt is quite an empowering fantasy for an old geezer like me.

Quite loud. Hearing aid optional and screaming babies, texters, & talkers will not bother you in the slightest.

More gory than earlier rambos. Simpler plot too (difficult to believe I know...). Mostly just shooting bad guys who deserve it so very, very much.

joannepir -> RE: Rambo (1/31/2008 7:54:43 PM)

I can't wait to see it. My husband and I are big Rambo fans!

TQ_Fan_4_Life -> RE: Rambo (2/2/2008 10:00:49 PM)

I finally saw it today and loved it. I agree with posts. isn't made to be an epic sobby crybaby chickie flickie. just action and revenge. that movie ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

doinkdom -> RE: Rambo (2/6/2008 2:27:15 PM)

I thought Stallone did a good job with the final chapter to Rocky.

I have hopes for this final chapter to Rambo.

IMO, bringing closure to a series is a good thing and I was impressed with the last Rocky. It was done for the fans...brought the story full circle.

Sounds like Rambo does something similar.
