Christian historical fiction is my fave! Here are my recoms: Francine Rivers, Bodie Thoene, Judith Pella. All great stories and superior character development, historically accurate.
Enjoy![:D]

Either Beverly Lewis or Wanda Brumstetter (sp?).

Go to your local Christian book store and browse. 99% of Christian fiction is written by women for women. Okay, 99% may be an exaggeration, but my point is still valid, most Christian fiction is written by women for women.

I like both of those women and there is also a new woman writer who writes about the Amish. Her name is Cindy, but I can't remember her last name. I think she only has one book so far. She talks about getting help and encouragement from Karen Kingsbury- who is also an excellent author.

roxiesgarden -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/1/2008 4:24:49 PM)

Yes, those two authors I have read and loved.

Dred -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/1/2008 4:36:10 PM)

You might try Hannah Hurnard, known best for the classic Christian book "Hinds Feet in High Places."

krazyxsinner -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/1/2008 11:50:58 PM)

Bodie Thoene

Oke is just too sappy for me

cherish405 -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/2/2008 12:52:41 AM)

I love Janette Oke. I'm reading some of her books at the moment.

I've ordered some more of her books written with T Davis Bunn.

I've also ordered "The Redemption Of Sarah Cain" by Beverly Lewis.

Krislynx -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/2/2008 9:31:53 AM)

If anyone prefers mystery/suspense style Dee Henderson's O'Malley series is good. She has another set of books that I think is more of a collection that my sister likes as well. Terri Blackstock is also good for suspense/mystery books. Does anyone know of any good Christian medical thrillers or other suspense writers?

Kris

sunshine4God -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/4/2008 7:49:32 PM)

I just read a book by Joyce Meyer and think she is a good writer.
I also like Shari mcdonald and Lori Wick.

SockFreak -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/6/2008 2:30:07 PM)

I know someone already said Francine Rivers, but I have to say she is THE best women's christian writer I have found thus far. She wrote a particular series called Mark of the Lion. There are three of them in the series and they are all fabulous. It really makes you think and examine your faith. She also has a series about women in the lineage of Christ. They are historical Christian fiction, but you really start to look at these five women as people and not just names in the bible.

Other than that, Janette Oak and Beverly Lewis are good. I think they get a predictable after awhile. Definately good easy reads though.

Hey SockFreak- welcome to the boards!

DaveW -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/8/2008 8:48:22 AM)

Anyone like Kathy Tyers?

She has written several christian SF books (Firebird trilogy, Shivering World, etc.) and has written a few StarWars stories as well for LucasFilms. She has also done a travellogue on the Pacific Northwest and recently completed a biography on Christopher Parkening (the classical guitarist).

Or did you mean women christian authors who write just women's books?

Cloak -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/8/2008 8:49:27 AM)

Joyce Meyer has published lately her 1st Novel...The Penny, I am curious...did someone read this novel, as I love Joyce Meyer and would like to see your take on her 1st Novel??? [:D]

Love her. Read the trilogy and Shivering World twice already. I wish she would do some more SF.

Another excellent female SF/fantasy author is Karen Hancock. Arena, and her Light of Eidon trilogy, are brilliant.

She is attending grad school right now, Regent's College in Vancouver. There are rumors on her fan club forum that she will be getting back into SF writing at the end of her studies.

Hopefully more of the Firebird series!!!

HisCovenant -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/8/2008 6:02:57 PM)

Lynn Austin is another good one, but not all of her stuff is the same. I have enjoyed all of it, but you may not.

TQ_Fan_4_Life -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/9/2008 1:20:13 AM)

teri blackstock

HisCovenant -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/9/2008 10:54:47 AM)

What about T. Davis Bunn & Isabella Bunn? Linda Lee Chalkin?

A man that can write some historical fiction that appeals to women is Gilbert Morris.

Only Glory Awaits by Leslie S. Neurenburg (sp?) and Mozart's Sister by Moser are good, but those are the only examples of their work I have read. I also read Bittersweet by Cathy Marie Hake recently and plan to read more of her work.

I LOVE Arena!! My hubby actually read it first and gave it to me - took a little bit to get into, but it was good!!

I remember enjoying the SILK series. I don't know who wrote it though.

The Mark of the Lion series is great too!

slimon11 -> RE: Good Women Christian Writers (2/11/2008 12:02:33 AM)

Liz Higgs wrote some books: "Bad Girls of the Bible" I highly recommend them to everyone! She starts each chapter with a modern day fictional story that mirrors the old bible story of a certain women, then she tells the real bibical story for each woman and tells us what we could learn from them.

I also love Beth Moore.
