Biblefreak -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/20/2008 2:29:21 PM)

All, I know is that I grew up in Michigan and the Tigers are going to be very good this season.

uncabeeil -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/20/2008 2:59:06 PM)

I caught some the game last night between the Mets and Tigers. They're gonna score a bazillion runs. Pitching might be a little iffy, though.

granolagirl -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/20/2008 11:31:20 PM)

White Sox all the way. We got our World Series recently so I think I'd like to see the Brewers win for my DH's sake. [:)]

The Tigers need help in the pen. I fully expect Dombrowski to go get help before the season starts.

They're pretty good...if their pitching can do something more than last year they could have a shot! [:)]

Yeah. They did really good last season until about 2/3 of the way through. Then they just pooped out...kinda like the Cubs have been doing lately. [;)]

Biblefreak -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/23/2008 8:43:05 AM)

The Brewers are my N.L. pick I pick them and the Tigers in the World Series with the Tigers winning in 5.

DenimDiva -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/23/2008 7:30:42 PM)

I haven't even looked to see how my Giants are doing. Do I want to know?

They did well against the Rangers today...though they lost 5-2. They had some good hits...and Tim Lincecum pitched well while he was on the mound. [:)]

So what do ya'll think about MLB starting it's season officially in Japan (or any foreign country) for that matter?

Was that Bud's call? I thought it was goofy.

Probably...and if it was that makes perfect sense with his character.

Agreed.[sm=thumbsup.gif]

My husband asked me the other night why I wasn't up at 4:00 in the morning watching.[sm=aside.gif]

I'm excited about the season starting up again, but I'm not nearly as stoked as I used to be. Somehow, all of the luster of Opening Day got thrown out the window when MLB started letting other teams play their first games before the Reds. For years, the Cincinnati Reds were allowed the privilege of being the very first game on Opening Day. Other teams began their games after the Reds, but my guys were always the first. They had that honor because of them being the frist professional baseball team, but now they've been kind of stuck on the back burner. It's still the National League opener, but it's just not quite the same. KnowhatImean?

Oh well, that's all water under the bridge now, so let's just.....................................................................................................

PLAY BALL!!!

I agree 200% Why, after more than 100 years, why did they think that needed to change? And opening in Japan, or Mexico? Puh-leeeeze!! The only thing this does is line the pockets of guys who are already millionaires. Does anybody really think they care about the Red Sox or A's over there? If they really want to make money, play the World Series champs agains the Japanese league's champs in the fall.

DBacks pitcher Doug Davis was diagnosed with thyroid cancer today. I am sure prayers would be welcome.

Seattle59 -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/29/2008 9:37:13 AM)

Haven't heard much about the Mariners so far. I think they should finish first in the American League West. They acquired Eric Bedard from Baltimore in trade...touted to be one of the best in baseball...although I am not sure he will live up to the hype about him...13-5 in 2007. Couple him with Felix Hernandez...14-7...Carlos Silva...13-14, Jarrod Washburn...10-15, and Miguel Batista...16-11 and the best closer in baseball...J.J. Putz and the starters look good. Ichiro, Ibanez, Beltre, Betancourt, Johjima, Vidro, and Lopez will give them plenty of punch. Seems like Richie Sexson is still slumping after a terrible year. Setup relief with Brandon Morrow is a problem...gave up 5 runs in 2/3 of an inning the other day so I think he is on his way to AAA Tacoma. My only other concern is Brad Wilkerson...234. We need more production from him or he might be gone sooner than later. I'm sorry to lose OF Adam Jones, OF Jose Guillen and middle reliever George Sherrill...went to Baltimore...and one of my favorites Ben Broussard...1B-OF. I know they will do better than 88-74. And with John McLaren managing...1st full season and a lot of new coaches...McLaren's buddies...the season looks positive. What else can I say.

Hi Christi and Kim! Thanks for the welcome to the thread.
Yes I am a huge Giants fan. I grew up in a Giants household and I married my DH who is also a Giants fan...needless to say, my kids are fans too.
My DS is named JT...not specifically after JT Snow, but it was convenient that it worked out that way. He is almost 9 and loves to play ball and hang out with dad at the high school practices where my DH is the JV baseball coach.
MY DD is only 5 and hasn't fully gotten on board yet, but she is learning.

My biggest boohoo for right now is that my DS gets to go to the Giants home opener with my FIL...fantastic for him, bummer for me...oh well

How funny! JT Snow is how I got into liking baseball! I grew up in So. Cal. and was watching some sports center interview in passing (when I was 13...16 years ago) and saw him being interviewed. I didn't catch what team he was on though, since I wasn't a baseball fan at the time. Fastforward a week or so and there happened to be an Angels game on KTLA (channel 5) and I saw him! I thought, "Hey there's that cute player from the interview!" And boom! A die hard baseball fan was born. [;)]

I started out an Angels fan...for my first 10 years of fanship...the last 6 years have been a gradual shift over to my beloved Red Sox. [:)]

joeshappywife -> RE: THE 2008 BASEBALL THREAD (3/31/2008 2:05:02 PM)

Our household fan status is...
1. Giants
2. A's (gotta stick with the local teams)
3. Red Sox - my MIL is from Boston. Seven years ago my DH and JT went with my in-laws to Boston and we were able to go to a game at Fenway...what an incredible experience. Unfortuanately for JT, he was only 2, so he doesn't remember it much, but we got pictures that he can use to prove that he was there[;)]
