Melissa, I am guessing you adore cherries almost as much as I do! Ever since I started cutting back on foods with added sugar, I find I am much more satisfied with fruit.

My wrist is getting better but still not quite back to normal. *sigh* At least I generally go to dance class today; that won't call for any weight-bearing wrist movements.

I really did well yesterday, until my hubby called and told me he was going out to eat with friends and then they were all heading over to see his buddy who is in the hospital. I don't know what happened, other than to say I was feeling sorry for myself - and then I ate to make myself feel better, which of course always backfires.

I ate a serving of pretzels, which I ate with peanut butter smeared on top of each one. Then, I ate two pb&j sandwiches, which I shared with my 1-year old. I didn't eat anything else, but I am pretty sure I didn't need to lol!

My calves are still very sore and I'm not sure about my toe, but I'm getting ready to head out for a walk anyway, and we'll see what happens.

Say a prayer for me!

Have fun, Jenn!

We are going to the zoo today, and I'll get plenty of walking done then so no worries about formal exercise for me. Food is just going to be the "usual" veggies and a can of tuna for lunch and probably bacon/eggs for breakfast.

Good food day, today. I did have one serving of tortilla chips because I was craving something salty... probably from all the sweating I did at the zoo. We walked for about 2.5 hours by the time you figure in all the stops to look at things, which isn't bad. Maybe 3-4 miles?

I love SparkPeople, myself. Not so much for the recipes and I don't use their meal plans, but I love reading through their message boards and seeing that I am not only NOT alone, I am joined in this struggle by SO many others, and sometimes it's like reading my own story! There are several teams of christians who are struggling with the concept of "dying to self" just as I am, and I am inspired by the ones who have reached their goals. I also find myself trying to motivate people who are struggling with issues I've already gotten past, and then I find that it motivates me in turn.

What I really love is that it's free LOL.

Dinner was ok. I ate a very small portion of the scalloped potatoes and ham that I was supposed to eat last night along with some steamed squash. I wish I had eaten something a little more nutritious, but hey, it was at least a small portion and not the enormous ones I used to eat, right? That has to be better.

I confess to a very small slice of a Cold Stone ice cream cake for a friend's birthday. But I didn't go to the Irish Pub with the lunch group because I knew I wouldn't have the willpower to not order the fish/shrimp/chips.

I had Smart Ones instead. And worked out at the gym with the trainer tonight.

Tomorrow I will do my really good cardio in the morning. I'm really looking forward to it!

Question: what kind of lunch meat do you think has the lowest sodium? I usually have the roast beef when I have a sandwich. I love (and prefer) the turkey but it's so salty. I'm not much of a salt fan, so I feel a bit stuck. Any suggestions for a good tasting, but low sodium, turkey meat for lunch? (Keep in mind that I don't use my oven because it's just too hot where I live.) Maybe a good crockpot recipe for turkey breast?

Anyone?

Happy Birthday, Miss Giggles! (By the way, I love your Avatar. Get Fuzzy is a great blend of cute and sarcastic!)

I did well at dinner out yesterday. We were celebrating our worship team leader's departure, so I didn't get to choose the restaurant (Mexican). I find their salads unimaginative (yikes! I'm turning into a salad snob!) but I skipped over all the cheese-laden options and had Arroz con pollo with extra salad (no dressing) instead of beans.

I also walked straight past Ribfest on the way back from the gym to the office. It helped that I deliberately left my wallet behind so I wouldn't be tempted.

Good job on not giving in to temptation, Anne(what is your real name, btw? Jen? I can't remember )

I just polished off a bowl of tuna salad and some crackers, having another good diet day. I am definitely losing some weight, although I'm frustrated that I haven't dropped a pants size yet. Seriously, I've lost 17lbs and I don't know where it was from. I mean, my pants are a little more loose but I haven't lost a whole size.

Yup, it's Jen. Anne is my middle name; I figure there are fewer Annes than Jens around. I should put it in my siggy though.

Ryanne, that is unusual (re weight loss not corresponding to size loss). Have you got smaller clothes you're waiting to get into, or are you going based on your current clothes? I thought I hadn't lost a size until DH said "When are you going to stop wearing those pants? They're way too big!!" I hadn't noticed.

When I first lost weight I was really frustrated at how slowly I was losing towards the end; it took me about 3 months to lose 3 lbs. However, I also lost 3 inches each from my chest, waist and hips so clearly I was losing weight--the only reason I knew the measurements is that I was fitted for a bridesmaid's dress and the poor seamstress almost had to start over after the second fitting! I was exercising a lot at the time; I think by then I'd gotten to replacing fat with muscle tone.

All that to say, sometimes we're not as aware of our own successes as we should be.

Ugh! I am so disgusted - I have not lost a single pound! Every time I lose two pounds, I just find it later in the week.

Let me back up. . .

Miss Giggles, Happpppyyyyy Birthday to youuuuuuu!
Ryanne, that is weird about the clothing size, especially with that much weight gone. Do you think that you carry weight differently than others? Are you tall? Sometimes I think carry my weight weird, since people always say that they can't believe I weigh as much as I do (that makes it sound like I go around telling everyone how much I weigh, but that's not true lol). I am reallllly short, so every ounce over where I should be makes me look "thick" in the legs and arms.

Ok, back to my rant. . .

I am really frustrated, and I know I have been eating more than I should, but honestly, I still weigh the exact same thing I weighed when I was doing absolutely nothing about it. I have been walking no less than 4-6 times a week, for an HOUR at a time, and I've really been watching what I'm eating, with the exceptions listed above lol. The thing is, I was doing that before so I should have at least lost something worth noting.

I think my bc pill is causing me to have a harder time losing. That, and I'm older than the last time I tried it.

Hmmmmm, I need to figure something out, before I go nuts.

I have lost some weight in my upper body, the shirts I wore last summer are to big now but still... My thighs are back to "normal" and my pre-baby jeans fit in that area but they give me a serious muffin top.

Jenn, the lack of weight loss does get frustrating. Once you go grocery shopping can you try the induction phase of atkins and see if that helps?

I carry my weight weird, short legs and torso, big stomach and not busty enough to proportion out a lot of cute tops.

Thanks. I have ate way too much today!. Weight just started to look like it was going to start coming down even with TOM approaching. Tomorrow I will go shopping for some end of season tanks and shorts since unfortunately nothing is fitting from last year.

Mammajennleigh, also if you can look for the "insulin resistance diet book". That's how I kind of self diagnosed myself, even though I don't have high triglycerides or PCOS. It explains how many women can't lose weight through diet and exercise through the traditional way of eating less and moving more.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm giving it some serious thought.

The thing about "traditional" dieting is that I've really never lost weight by just cutting back and exercising more. Believe it or not, I used to own a women's health club and was a personal trainer with sports nutrition certification. Although I prescribed that "pyramid" diet to probably hundreds of women, I never saw it work that well. In fact, I had women mad at me all the time lol!

When we began to learn of the health benefits of lower carbs and higher protein, we started incorporating it into our program, and then we began to really see some significant results. In fact, I lost over 60 lbs. and kept it off until the year I sold my gym. Problem was, women (and I'm included in that number) wouldn't stay away from the carbs for very long. It's like the key to our success lies in the one thing we don't want to give up lol! Of course, that could be said about a great many things, not just weight loss, right?

I think that God is really trying to get my attention right now. I'm miserable. I'm making my family miserable. I want to blame someone, mostly my husband because he brings home stupid pound cake and I don't want to hurt his feelings. Or, he tries to make the food budget stretch as far as he can and I'm angry that he gets quiet when I tick off a list of unfamiliar foods that aren't on the list. I am angry at myself because I feel like I am a failure because I can't say no to things I want (too much food, not the right kinds of food) in order to gain the things I need ( a healthier, thinner body).

I need to lose 50 pounds off of my 5' 2" frame, and I need to stop making excuses as to why I haven't yet. This 50 pounds is making my 35-year old body feel like it's 65, and every morning I fight pain in my back, my knees, my calves, and my feet just in order to get out of bed. I literally have to lie there and pep talk myself up and out of the bed! If I sit down for more than 5 minutes, I limp around like an old woman for the next 15 minutes when I get up, trying to work the kinks out of my knees and my feet. I'm tired all the time.

I feel like this addiction to food and this overweight body that is the result of that addiction is stealing my joy. I was healed from a horrible set of circumstances that had ruined my life and taken everything I cared about away from me, and God reached down and restored my marriage and my family and gave me another chance to be who He meant for me to be . . and yet I am having a hard time finding a reason to even do that pep talk in the morning that gets me out of bed.

I feel trapped in a body that doesn't fit right. It's like going to a party wearing an outfit in the wrong color and style, one that's completely unflattering, and you can't wait to just go home and change.

My father has diabetes, his mother and father had diabetes, all of his brothers and one sister have diabetes, most of my cousins have diabetes. If I don't lose this weight and stop this addiction to sugar, I am going to have diabetes.

So there, ladies and gentlemen, that's me thinking about it, out loud. Thanks for listening. I've got to go make a grocery list.

Thank God for each and every one of you and your words of kindness and your sincere desire to read my words and offer help, even in the midst of your own struggles. It has made a huge difference to me today.

Hello, I am new to this thread. I have not read all 920 posts. I started Slim4Life 2 weeks ago and have lost 5 pounds so far. Slm4Life is in kansas and texas.

We are eating 4 veggies a day, 2 fruits a day, 2 starches a day and 2 meats a day, although I've been kind of cheating and eating 2 1/2 or 3 meats a day. But I have found that eating veal, chicken and turkey instead of beef (hamburger) is good. I never had veal before and so far have found only 1 store that carries it. Veal tastes great! It's expensive, but worth it. Since I'm the cook in my family I have to cook regular food for everyone else and then my food separately. We do not eat peas, corn or carrots for the 12 weeks of losing weight, nor pork. So I've discovered koser hot dogs. They also give us supplements to eat and vitamin pills and metabolic and essential fatty acid pills. I started at 209 and am at 204. My goal weight is 140. We don't count calories, just eat the right number of veggies, etc. And 80 oz. of water a day (10, 8 oz. glasses, or 4 20 oz. water bottles). I am going to start exercising as well. I will start slow, because I don't want to do too much, by walking 15 mins. a day for 5 days a week. I haven't started yet, though.

Ryanne, I looked at that website and I'm going to finish reading it later tonight (just got back from yard sale-ing and I have a TON of stuff to put away lol! It is amazing - I answered yes to almost every question on the introduction questionnaire

I think that this is the crux of my problem, and after kind words from you and others, and after a long night of prayer, I am ready to hit it head on.

Purnhart, I haven't heard of that program before, but Im curious, how many calories are you getting in a day?

Have you talked to him about this? Just a heart to heart about how you feel regarding your food addiction and how it makes it harder when you have the stuff in the house? Obviously it's not his fault, but it's also not helpful. Perhaps you should start doing the grocery shopping then you don't feel bad for adding to his list?

I went grocery shopping yesterday and forgot a couple of things we needed That ALWAYS happens to me when I am shopping for something in addition to regular groceries. We are going camping for the 4th of July so I was getting stuff for that trip...

Breakfast today- cheesy eggs with ham(for a total of 3g of carbs) and I'll probably have some fruit
Snack- beef jerky and cheese
Lunch- Tuna and maybe crackers, lots of veggies
Snack- cheese and fruit
Dinner- Roasted chicken and veggies plus I'll make sweet potatoes for DH and DD.

We're looking quite whole foods lately

Purnheart, we have Slim4life here in Colorado too, there are a TON of radio advertisements. Can I ask how much it ends up costing?
