It's the whole stove, not just a fire place...so I don't see how a screen could do anything. it's in the corner, so it would have to be 8-10 feet long to go all the way around it from wall to wall to cover the whole corner that it's in.

We've only had one or two fires this whole last week, so hopefully the weather keeps getting nicer. He's actually not interested in it at all when there's no bright flickering colours in the window!

We also don't have space to do much in here. And, since space is an issue here, I'm never far away.
I must say though, he sure is a determined little guy.

Our fireguard was no more than 8 inches deep, so didn't take up much room at all.

I guess I don't really know what a fireguard is...?

Maybe you could get a *small* floor-standing screen that only blocks the window then?

Okay, I am not sure if this is the wrong place to post this, but it 'is' about our baby.

We didn't buy a changing table because we thought we wouldn't use it. However, we constantly use the changing table on the pack-n-play. Jason's back really hurts him when he changes him. I measured it and it was 2ft. The 'normal' height for a changing table seems to be around 3.5 ft. Idealy he'd like one higher due to his height. I'm not sure what to do because we don't have a whole lot to spend. I did see THIS and considered getting that and changing it into a changing table... but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions on a tight budget?

Uh, don't spend $200, that's my first suggestion

THIS one is 48 inches tall. That should be plenty high enough...

Nevermind, that one isn't that tall, it's on error on their site... I'll measure ours tonight and see how tall it is, I know it's taller then average and then I'll find the brand for you

Yup, change the baby's diaper on the floor. It's free. It's also safe as they can't roll off.

We do a lot of floor changing. We have a changing table in DD's room but end up changing her in a lot of other places too.

Do you have a dresser for her yet? There are those changing pad thingies that strap to dressers so you can you the dresser top. Or you could add to the height of your changing table somehow. Maybe build a platform or drawer or something.

I do all Nath's changing on the couch so it doesn't hurt my knees getting up and down, or on the floor.

We had a change table with Grace but I rarely used it once she was crawling around and it took up too much space in the lounge and it was a pain to have in her room.

Ok, this isn't about baby, but coz I shared the mouse thing before, I was outside in the laundry and thought "that smells like dead mouse" I thought I was just being paranoid coz the smell is still in the kitchen, but lo and behold there was a dead mouse in the laundry. AND I PICKED IT UP TOO!!!

Ok, this is about baby. YEsterday Nath was in his rocker chair that has this bar of toys on it, I was feeding him in it (solids, not breast LOL) and he grabbed the bar that was up and pulled himself from sitting to standing!! This kid is one strong boy!!!

We have a changing table, but the top of it has a lamp and mail and the printer. We use the bottom part ofr diapering stuff and shoes. I change the kids on the floor next to it. I used to change the kids on it until they started moving around and stuff. Janine, if you really want a changing table, you might want to check craigslist or the paper for a used one. I don't think we've hardly bought anything brand new for the kids except toys. The changing table we have is a honey colored Jenny Lind style, and it was in perfect condition, and we bought it for $35 on craigslist. It sells for $100 at Babies R Us.

Julie - I hadn't thought of that! He Was tuckered out! Thanks for watching it and commenting.

Jae - I don't know how I missed that video. Too cute! And I am so jealous of all that hair!!

We use our dresser for a changing table. I cut a piece of foam the size of a king size pillow and then use pillow protectors over it to keep the foam from getting soaked. Then I just use a pillow case over the protector. It works really well.

My husband is almost 6ft tall, and gets lower back pain, but floor-changing was fine for him - I presume because you're not leaning, you're sitting or kneeling. I think it's leaning that can cause the discomfort.

I use a desk-tp for diaper changing. It's actually a better height than our old changing table.

My Daddy made me a changing table/dresser. He used dresser drawers from a dresser that was junk, made a new frame for them and built a HUGE changing table on top. It's big enough for a changing pad and a basket of diapering stuff, and is at the perfect height. I should take pictures sometime, but I'm so not good at putting them up.

Unfortunately, I don't use it once they start wiggling during diaper changes. But when they're little, it's great!

Donna - That sounds exactly like ours! My dad made mine too. This is our changing table.

we didn't get a changing table until baby #3....we splurged then to get one cause I have back problems and that was my one item I wanted soooooo bad. We got a German brand (cause we were in Germany)....and I LOVE IT!!!! It is very tall (I guess cause Germans tend to be tall.....all of the ones we looked at were very tall). One of the features I love about it is that you can flip up the mat/changing pad and it becomes a baby bathtub...which again is very tall and helps my back!!! Hubby is measuring how tall it is right now....ok it's about 40 inches (102 com) tall. HERE is a pic of it (and the swing that got messed up in the last move and now has to be replaced if we want a swing this time!!!). It was a huge splurge to get it, but I am sooo oglad we got it!!! It is big enough that if I wanted to I could change Emma on it and she is 3yo now (and she is potty trained so it's not necessary). With Jack right now we choose to use the floor because he is too squirmy and wants to run off and not get changed....stubborn little twit....lol. When they get to that squirmy stage I use the floor....but it still hurts my back.

Mary's legs are really squirmy but only because she is still trying to control them. It's so funny becuasue it looks and sounds like she is trying to get her motor started!

What about the top of the washer or dryer Jae? My mom and I used to babysit years ago, and that's where we always changed the little guy. Might not be the best when he's more mobile, but it might work for now.

Yeah, but I get lower back pain and the floor is horribly uncomfortable for me... I think everyone is different.

Loads of what Manda??

I had to share this picture, Mary is so proud of being able to push herself along on her little car, I can't get her off of it! She pushes herself to one end of the house making car sounds and then cries for me to turn her around. So cute!

Guess what! Mary has finally decided that she is ready to eat some solid foods!! I couldn't believe it the other night when I offered her some sweet potato pieces and she ate the whole thing! She is eating whole green beans too, I am so happy! I am a little stuck for ideas though, because she won't eat anything pureed, it has to be big person food or she turns up her nose at it. Does anyone have ideas of what kind of things she could be eating? Could I give her toast with something on it? I usually try to give her some of what we are eating but we eat a lot of casseroles and soups and for some reason I don't think I should give them to her. Would it be alright for her to have things like cheese or meat or things like that now? I am completely at a loss!
